Furyo remembers his time in San Quentin Adjustment Center. Where the worst of the worst of the non-Death Row inmates are thrown in with the most rabid killers the California system has to offer. Furyo liked it here, the howling screams of rage, the burning towels thrown out on the tier, the look of fear and respect in the guards eyes. That was until they did a shift rotation and brought in a group of Correctional Officers with a true hate for inmates and a cold sadism streak. The “Cleanup Crew” would come in ripping up cells, throwing pictures and drawings into the toilet, breaking bones of guys who minded their business for decades, and got a serious vendetta going with the heads of all the most powerful gangs. These were the useful idtots, loud mouths and non chess playing minds that would have scream outs with the guards rather than make a plan to destroy their lives and leave them shadows of human beings.
Down the tier from Furyo was a quiet guy on Death Row for supposedly killing his girlfriend and a series of stabbings, arsons and pushing transients into the path of commuter trains. His name was Nicodemus “Cyanide” Vadik. He was unassuming, made underground hip hop beats in his cell, was on several tech magazines described as a trend setter and visionary. One day the “Cleanup Crew” came in his cell, broke all his smuggled computer pieces and pushed him naked into a cell with a known prison rapist, whom he somehow overpowered and nearly decapitated. Nicodemus was called “the vampire” by the guards because he was only awake at night and many suspected the violence was hired out from enemies he had on the outside. The Cleanup Crew would wear hockey masks like Jason Vorhees, they enjoyed breaking legs and throwing inmates from the 5th tier.
One day Furyo was reading Evil Ernie comic books he was copying for tattoo designs and a kite came under his door. Kites are little prison notes, shot between cells with a string line and weighted “car” that was usually a bar of soap inside a plastic shampoo or toothpaste tube. The note was from Nicodemus and was basically offering him 100k per broken leg on each of the cleanup crew and 500k if he could get his hands on one of their hockey masks. Furyo was quick to agree but wanted to work out the logistics of how the money would be transferred and how all this would be done if he ended up injured, stuck in isolation or killed by guards. Nicodemus sent a large sum of money to Furyo’s people on the streets to show how serious he was. After watching two transfers of 300k to his Chinatown contacts just to take the job, Furyo made a plan on how to cause a riot to mask his movements.
The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.
Furyo started spreading rumors that the cops in visiting were taking upskirt pictures of the gang members wives during the strip search, also said he say one of the guys girl friends who stopped visiting making out with one of the Cleanup Crew in the parking lot. On the other hand he paid a trustee who was able to move around the grounds to tamper with the guards personal items in their lockers, pop their tires on their cars and leave tacks in their boots. This created a hostile climate where the cell searches and abuse of inmates property escalated. Treasured cassette tapes were smashed, porno mags taken and personal letters read aloud on the PA system that included unflattering admissions and concessions from broken men waiting for their date with death.
Furyo made his move during the daily afternoon count. A lone cop named “Roid Rage” was walking the tier with his flip book of names and pictures. This guy was a cowboy, hated rap music so Furyo left a tape deck playing Dre Dog, Askari x and Paris, hiding it in an air duct where it took the cops a couple hours to find it. Furyo has been buying blood, used needles and feces from an HIV positive drag queen down on the first deck. Inside the tape deck was rigged explosive, razor blades, screws and a milk container filled with putrid body fluids intended to infect every one in a 7 foot radius. Blowing off Officer Roid Rage’s fingers and injuring the eye of another cop they called “Honkey Donkey.” Furyo had worked it out with a Black Guerrilla Family shot caller named “Satan” to take credit for it. When the Cleanup Crew came in that night, Furyo had rigged his cell door to pop the lock when they rushed in to attack Satan at the back of the tier. Once they opened Satan’s cell and began beating him, Furyo bounced out his cell with a improvised shank in one hand and a razor in the other, taped up tight so he couldn’t be disarmed.
He rushed up behind the cops and began slicing the tendons in their legs and arms, puncturing lungs and kicking knees sideways. Then he opened 6 other cells with the guards keys. This caused hell on earth. Furyo was pretty sure they hadn’t seen his face under the improvised ninja mask he had rigged with a spare t-shirt. Now as the fury of decades of abuse was unleashed on these cowardly guards, Furyo delivered the mask to Nicodemus. He found out Nicodemus actually wanted to die. He had a bunch of star lawyers from Silicon Valley working on his behalf, but now he just wanted to go peacefully. Furyo gave him the hockey mask and true to his word, another million was wired to Furyo’s mother. Furyo also scored a Sega Genesis with Splatterhouse 2 and 3, Altered Beast and Chakan the Forever Man, some underground Hip Hop tapes and smut magazines. Pretty good score. Furyo played his video games while the riot played out. Hostages traded, tear gas canisters shot in and a promise those specific pigs were out of a job after somebody hacked their personal computers, leaking dozens of abusive pictures taken with Death Row inmates wives and sisters to the press.
