Being summoned to a gang meeting was a weekly thing. Furyo thought nothing of it but he was the center of a controversy. The Akuryō-kai was a former rival in an uneasy alliance. They were 呪い幽霊 Noroi Yūrei, cursed spirits who exist in darkness, lingering on earth to settle malicious feelings from life. 悪霊会ゴーストマフィア Akuryō-kai gōsutomafia who held dominion over all memorial offerings and alms left at places of the dead. They were a group of evil spirits who watched over 心理的瑕疵物件 しんりてきかしぶっけん (Shinriteki kashi Bukken) homes of the dead, 神社 Jinja (Shrines) and 墓場, Hakaba (Cemeteries.) At the meeting Rooster is no where around so Furyo sits quietly as the meeting begins. The room is dark and there are no candles burning. As he sits wondering what is the purpose of the meeting a door is opened and he wonders if he is actually seeing ghosts entering. The skin on his neck tightens, his palms and toes go cold. A procession of evil spirits!

Pale figures with a dark aura and luminous eyes. The Yurei look grey but have a blackness at the same time that is hard to describe. Like dropping ink in water, spiritual miasma in the air make the breath of the living freeze in the air. The room and even the day light beyond the paper window frames seem to be darkening. Two rows of 20 shuffle in, sitting in the center of the room. With an awful voice chanting like a traditional horror Noh play, begin reading a list of their grievances. The Master of the Akuma listens quietly and with out saying a word, the spirits rise and leave. Furyo is shocked when the Master begins screaming and pointing in his direction. The Yakuza beside Furyo seize him and drag him before the master who is glowering with his intense Oni Mask. The Master is shaking with rage and screaming in Japanese. Furyo almost feels like he understands a piece of what is said. “Centuries of tradition, wasted on a slithering worm with no honor, risking war in our heartland over foolish earthly pursuits!”

Rooster appears out of nowhere wearing a gold suit and with out his usual shades. He explains that Furyo’s history with breaking into homes of the recently dead as well as bringing women to have sex in cemeteries has enraged the 悪霊会ゴーストマフィア Akuryō-kai Ghost Clan who are threatening war if the 悪魔暴力団 Devil Clan doesn’t surrender the core of their territory, an unacceptable demand. Furyo tries to explain he had no where else to sleep and he had treated the 空き家 Akiya, Abandoned homes of the Dead with reverence, even honoring an alter to the former residents. Furyo doesn’t get to explain before he is swatted in the teeth by the Master with a closed traditional fan. Furyo panics as he is dragged into a room he understands to be a killing floor. Falling on his hands and knees in a putrid and sticky puddle of blood. He doesn’t look up as he expects a bullet crushing the back of his skull eminently. His eyes were beaten shut and possibly suffering a brain injury, one of the palms of his hand feels broken when he tries to brace himself off the killing floor.

Furyo is left alone and before long realizes he is not going to be killed immediately. Looking into the darkness across the room he sees a small figure sitting between 2 candles chanting quietly. Furyo cant help himself, he carefully walks over silently. He is shocked to see the Hell Priest, the lost Kitten and the Mother dog with puppies laying happily in front of the priest. Chanting stops and the monk opens his eyes and smiles. Furyo is too shocked to speak. The Hell Priest rings a bell and stares unblinking as Furyo wonders what the fuck is happening. Instantly overwhelming feelings of a mix of joy, regret, horror and powerlessness come over him. In his minds eye he sees for all his hard work the mother dog was put out on the street by Cynthia and was hit by a truck before returning to her brood, the orange eyed kitten had caught a lung infection and suffocated in the night. This was a place for the dead to rest.

The Hell Priest grabs the etherial spirit of the orange eyed kitten and says, “Walk with me…” They come to a sliding wooden door that opens into a warm corridor that functions as a sunroom. Exiting into a cemetery, they walk among the tomb stones and trees. It’s a magical place that is at once suffering neglect but also has signs of some rituals of Shinto priests for the dead. The Priest says. “You are the source of controversy. Allegedly you have been dishonoring homes of the dead, eating their food and sexually violating cemeteries. This angered the Ghost Clan who seized on this as an excuse for war. The Akuma Boryoku has been weakened by the alliance it once held with the 野獣組 The “Yajū-gumi” Beasts Clan and 憑依された男たち Hyōi sa reta otoko-tachi Possessed Men Cult fracturing the peace and siding with the 悪霊会ゴーストマフィア Akuryō-kai. Their oldest allies 人食い巨人”Hito kui Kyojin” Cannibal Giant Gang acting as if they want to remain in neutrality. You must go to their stronghold in the west on Kyushu and beg for their support in the war that is coming. You have one week to fix the rift you have caused. Otherwise you will be banished and killed on sight.”
