Volume 1, Chapter 9: Lewis 1

Two days before the integration.

I waved his hands at Sebas to say goodbye as Sebas exited the classroom. I left the classroom after Sebas left so that the cleaners had an easy time cleaning the classroom and stood beside the hallway.

I heard the footsteps of the group of eight students who were discussing inside the classroom. I glanced a little and saw that they left the classroom.

Then there is a person who puts an arm around my shoulder.

I almost fell onto the floor due to the weight of the person and I turned my head to take a look to see the person, even though I have already guessed who it is. Then that person spoke in a high toned voice.

"Hey Lewis!"

"Oh it's you Licht. No wonder why I almost fall over due to your muscle mass." I said in a joking manner.

"Oh come on man! Don't insult my muscles like that, they have feelings you know!" Licht sarcastically said with a smirk in his face as he let his arms hug my neck tightly.

A lighthearted voice interrupted our conversation.

"Oh come on Licht, you know we got no time for this!" A girl walking with her crossed arms disturbed our playful banter.

"Don't be such a killjoy Pria! Fine I'll let go of him." Licht jests to Pria and let go of my shoulders.

"By the way Lewis. Where's Sebas?" Licht eagerly asked me with a mischievous grin and looked at Pria, raising his brows and emphasizing Sebas' name with the intent of teasing her.

Pria stomped his foot with incredible force as Licht surprised as he avoided the blow by stepping backward and raising his hands in a gesture of non-aggression.

"Whoa! You mad Pria?" Licht sweat permeates his face with a nervous voice.

Pria's face flushed red, menacingly looked at Licht.

"What did you say, Licht?" Pria's voice was deep and low, almost like a growl, as she forced a smile on her face while putting weight on her sharp words especially when she said his name.

"Sorry Madam for my idiotic actions earlier!"

Licht prostrated immediately, lowering his head to Pria.

Seeing this, I was amused by their comedic actions. Pria and Licht have been best friends since elementary school. They haven't been separated since they were classmates that I thought were bound to be friends forever. I sighed and shrugged his shoulders as he answered Licht's question.

"Sebas is not joining." I answered.

"Why not?" Pria's expression suddenly jumped back to curiosity as she asked this question.

Unauthorized duplication: this narrative has been taken without consent. Report sightings.

"He has some problems that he has to deal with. He didn't state his problems so I don't know." I answered Pria's question with his head up high and crossing his arms in the process.

"So he's busy then? Well nevermind him, let's go to the KTV. " Pria excitedly said with her arm held up high with a fist.

Licht stood up and interrupted Pria's enjoyment.

"But we have to wait for Paul and Mia. They're the cleaners today aren't they?"

Licht said with a relaxed voice.

I grabbed my phone in my pockets and checked the time.

4:59 PM

"4:59. There should be a lot of time left. We can wait for them for a while." I announced to them as I looked at the time.

5:00 PM

The time of the phone changed. A bright cyan ray of light appeared in the window of the hallway. The light shone brightly, as bright as the sun, and continued expanding and covered the entire sky.

Lewis and his friends gazed at the window, dumbfounded and flabbergasted by the sudden beautiful phenomenon befalling their eyes.

"It's... beautiful." Pria murmured, her eyes wide open. Her arms down and her face directly stared at the light.

Both Lewis and I nodded as they stared at the light. It was not painful to stare at it like the sun but it almost had a comforting feeling in my eyes. They stared at it for a while and a minute passed by.

Licht interrupted the silence of wonder.

"What is that light?" Licht pointed at the sky and asked with utter curiosity and confusion.

I opened my mouth and I thought for a few seconds and I answered.

"I don't know." I sincerely replied as I looked the dots in the sky as I realized that it's a sunset today.

"Do you think we should run?" Pria muttered as she offered those words.

"Yeah we should get out of here." I agreed immediately. I watched some films and this is where we should get out of this place as soon as possible.

"Guys we finished cleaning. We sho-"

Mia and Paul and three of the students left the classroom wearing their backpacks and were shocked by the beautiful cyan light shining at the window.

"Run!" I shouted loudly and ran downstairs. Our classroom is located on the 2nd floor of the school and there are stairs right beside our classroom.

Me and the others ran downstairs and left the building as the light continued to glow that the back and sides of the building radiated a cyan light.

We left the school and stopped as I checked on my phone and opened a map app where the evacuation center is at.

"What are you doing Lewis!" Pria exclaimed at me as I located the evacuation center.

"Wait just a minute! I was trying to locate the evacuation center." I answered back to Pria with a loud voice.

"Found it! Follow me!" I found the center and ran. My classmates followed me. Most of the people in the street stared at the cyan light in the sky and some people began running as well to find somewhere safe.

I checked the time on my phone while running in the direction the map told me.

5:04 PM

As I am about to turn left. The time increased by a minute.
