Volume 1, Chapter 11: Chaos

Many screams echoed throughout the hallway. The light flickered in random intervals.

"Please... send... he-" a man hiding in an office table whispered quietly to call for help but his voice stopped as he heard footsteps that sounded like he was walking on wood.

But the floor was concrete, there are no wooden floors in this entire army depot.

A voice rang out.

"Is someone there?" a woman's voice reverberates throughout the silent room, similar to an abandoned cat in a box meowing in an alley.

The man hiding covered his mouth. His face was sweating, and he turned his eyes towards the direction where the sound came from.

"Nothing here huh?" The voice deepened as it began to hoarse.

The footsteps began to fade as that person left the room.

The man closed his eyes and sighed.

"Found you." That sinister voice whispered through his ears.

He opened his eyes in utter shock.

Nothing.

Nothing is there. I'm a-

The man's head twisted by the hands gripping his entire head without him knowing as if it was air. The figure above the table smiled, its teeth so bright white that no shadow could envelop it. The figure glitches, similar to the old TV's no-signal display. It disappears without a sound; more likely, the sound of him disappearing is close to a dog whistle.

Thud! Thud!

"Communications are down Commander! It's not a normal error either; it's as if the satellite we're connected to has shut down," An IT specialist reported as he was obtaining information on the outside.

Four soldiers are barricading the door in the administration building. The force that is forcing the door to open is getting stronger and stronger every time they banged the door.

I was sitting in an office chair. My head down low, I calmed my rough breathing, trying to assess this current situation.

It all begins with a single cyan panel.

I was in my office, typing an e-mail to my superiors about the supplies in the depot being run out. Then, a cyan light phased through my body, similar to those who walked in front of a digital projector.

When the light disappears, a panel shows up to his face. It was entirely holographic, floating in mid-air transparent cyan-colored singular panel.

"Is this real?" My face was astonished as I unknowingly uttered those words. I waved my hand in the panel as it phased through.

I looked at my computer to check if there were irregularities.

The Wi-Fi I was connected to no longer appears on my computer as if someone turned it off. The lights in the room are okay, some of them are blinking. The alarm in the office didn't go off.

It is as if that light only affected the internet access, not the electricity.

The question is, what analysis? Did it analyze my body earlier when the light hit me? That is the more probable cause of it.

Why did it analyze me?

The previous panel faded as another one appeared.

!Be advised: This integration will cause bugs and errors in this World!

Bugs?

A golden streak of light appeared on my body. It appeared on the walls and every object in my sight. Some of them turned red. I will guess that it is indicating an error.

Then the light suddenly turned off. The computer was turned off as well. Every appliance that required electricity was turned off simultaneously.

I grabbed the pistol I carried on my waist and stood up in a defensive position. The panel emitted light, yet it failed to illuminate its surroundings, not even my face.

I don't have a flashlight within me so I couldn't gather any cognitive information.

Screams are reverberating throughout the entire depot. Several gunshots were fired. Every time it fired, the screams were even louder.

My sweat dripped down my cheeks as I heard gunshots fade one by one. My eyes are so focused that I can almost see in the dark. Then the entire depot was eerily silent.

You might be reading a stolen copy. Visit Royal Road for the authentic version.

The light returned as if nothing had happened. I covered my face with my arm to cover the bright light.

Once I dropped my arm, I saw something truly out of this world that even I wanted to believe that this was just a harmless dream.

The glass cup that I drank earlier ago is floating in the air. Its body stretched so wide that it almost looked like a transparent cloth.

The plant on the doorway changed dramatically. Its leaves formed multiple dark eyes, its pupils bloody red, seeping through like moss in the entire plant. Its center almost resembles a beating human heart enveloped with dark roots digging into it as if it were blood vessels.

I shot the plant four times and hit it dead center to the lookalike heart.

I heard running footsteps in the corridor. My hands trembled as I pointed the gun at the door, my breath hitching with every bang.

A group of people appeared at the door. If I identify them in the clothes they are wearing. Two engineers, four soldiers, and one technician.

I lowered my gun but kept it ready, desperate to find a way out of this nightmare.

---

I snapped back to reality with no plan in mind.

"What do we do Commander?!" One of the soldiers barricading the door exclaimed at me with horror on his face.

"I don't know," I said with a calm voice but my facial expression was opposite to my voice.

The force strengthened as the four soldiers barricaded the door. The four soldiers' tears flowed down in their eyes, still holding the door. The two engineers stepped up to help the soldiers, but their legs weakened with every step they made, eventually collapsing on the floor, their faces full of fear and despair as they tried to get the courage to block the door. The technician grabbed a picture in his chest pocket.

"At least... I can see you one... last... time." The technician cried as he said those words. He embraced the photo in his chest and stored it in his chest pocket once again, regaining his courage to block the barricaded door.

I held my locket that my wife gave to me on our first anniversary. I opened it and saw a photo of me and her on the beach side where we first met. She is pregnant this year. I want to see my wife and the baby she's carrying right now. I closed the locket and began moving.

I desperately pushed the cabinet that was barricading the door. The force begins to break the door. My tears flowed through my eyes, and my eyes closed as I remembered my wife for the very last time.

I don't want to die. I have a family who are waiting for me. God Help Us All.

My eyes opened as I saw this. All of us said 'Status' almost simultaneously.

As I stared at the panel, the edges flickered, momentarily warping into static before stabilizing again.

"What the?" One person exclaimed as they saw their status. Every piece of information, even the information we didn't even know, showed up in our status.

Then suddenly a voice echoed throughout the entire depot as if someone brought a hundred speakers and attached them to a helicopter.

"Moshi Moshi! Ehem. Heyo everyone! It looks like... 40% more of y'all are dead, even the error ones. I'mma just cleaned this up first." The voice, similar to that of a child, nonchalantly announced grim news with a happy and exhausted-like tone.

Suddenly, a bright green light illuminated the floor beneath us. The banging of the door suddenly stopped. The sounds of soft, gentle music comforted our minds and recovered our bodies.

It was a miracle.

As we left the office and exited the building. We saw a night sky so beautiful that many stars were glistening in the night.

We regained our hope, escaping that despair-loving world we left behind.

A boy floating in the sky, covering the moon in his back. His one hand covers his ears, similar to those who are on a phone call. His lips moved as he was speaking, but we could not hear him.

"...kay sure. Greetings, this is the first time we met, although it's now a bad time for y'all and me; I mean, the entire civilization is at stake here, so we have to work over... time. " He groaned after he said those bleak words.

What?

All of us start to speak to ourselves, trying to figure out this current situation.

He clapped his hands and he continued speaking.

"I would like to request to you all in this depot to save every person that you can. Time’s up! No explanations—just save who you can. I’ll handle the rest."

The boy waved with a stressed expression as he began to tap and swipe in mid-air as some kind of mentally ill person.

Then he disappears in thin air, not leaving everything behind.

All of our mouths opened as we experienced this unexplainable situation. We collected our minds and began to try our best to save people as best as we could.

I, myself, only have one goal. To save my wife and my child.
