Chapter 28 Ugly Chaos

Chapter 28 Ugly Chaos

FA Chapter 28 Ugly Chaos

The moment that Bosingwa's feet stepped out of the building and onto the pavement, a cacophony of noise, caused by chaos assaulted his ears and eyes.

Floating cars littered the streets and sky, stuck within a traffic jam he couldn't see the end of. People were hollering to those in front, arguing, with even a few fighting. Bots tried to mediate yet they too were being destroyed as collateral damage.

The sobbing sounds of a child entered his ears, attracting his gaze, where the little girl in the backseat was crying while her father was too occupied with arguing with another driver over the cars smashing into each other.

Wind caressed his skin as a teenage girl raced past him, clutching something within her fingers with such force that her knuckles had turned white.

With a deliberate move, Bosingwa tripped the hooligan chasing after her, buying her enough time to escape.

"The ugliness of humanity. If someone took this photo, it would sell well as a piece of art."

Bosingwa ignored the quip even as he wondered where to start with solving this chaos.

"We can't do anything about this. It would be better if we went to the center of the city. That's where the truly helpless are." Advised Ice. Her eyes were gleaming as they stared straight ahead, as if trying to see through the building, to glimpse at the epic battle that was ongoing.

Bosingwa too, felt some excitement, though dulled down due to the chaos his eyes were currently gazing upon. Besides, he also hadn't yet recovered from the earlier blow.

"Okay."

Bosingwa leapt up, landing upon one of the vehicles stuck in traffic and gazed upon the surroundings. Now that he had gained a higher vantage point, he could see the massive chaos that was being brought upon because of panic.

His gaze spied the opposite building, specifically its end, where it ended at another road, feeding into this one, after which he took off, each step falling upon roof after roof of vehicles. He lacked the time to slowly push through the crowd. This was the best and fastest way he had devised.

Upon reaching the edge of the skyscraper, he noticed that the other road was in the same condition as the one he was about to leave behind, but that was no call for surprise as he had already expected it.

What he had not expected though, was the darkness of the human heart. The ugliness was now being bared to the world, and he even had to stop and intervene in some situations, like the one where a teenage girl was being dragged from the car by the hair, with her parents being held back by what appeared to be a trio of mean looking guys. Though, with just his vision, Bosingwa had managed to pick up on the fact that they were Forgers, and in the gaseous stage like himself.

It was going to be an ugly fight, but he didn't even hesitate to intervene, directly breaking the guy's arm, the one who had been dragging the girl.

The howl that entered his ears was entirely ignored as Ice and Larssen who had been following him also appeared by his sides, creating a standoff.

The two groups glared at each other, with the man whose arm had been broken radiating an intense gaze filled with hatred, but ultimately the group ran off after seeing the odds stacked against them.

If there hadn't been a crisis right now, Bosingwa would have pursued the matter. He had even developed some killing intent towards them, but ultimately, getting to the center of the city was the most important right now.

About ten minutes later, Bodingwa stood in place, gaping at the sheer power that was being showcased right in front of him. It was like the gods themselves were fighting. This was a scene he became certain that it would never be purged from his mind. Because he would never be able to forget its grandness, its epicness and every other big word he couldn't think of right now.

It was sheer destruction! They hadn't even managed to reach the center of the city! Instead the destruction had made its way to them! And boy was it glorious!

His hair was blown back as another explosion was set off in the sky as different colored streaks chased after one, exchanging moves at speeds he couldn't even fathom because even the sound was experiencing a lag because of their speeds, causing sonic booms that continuously rang out, like thunder on a gloomy rainy day.

Bosingwa's eyes widened as a transparent blade of wind sliced through a skyscraper diagonally, causing the top triangle to start sliding off. His enhanced hearing even picked up on the sounds of the screaming people trapped within the falling building.

His eyes reddened as he felt a powerful sense of helplessness. These were normal humans, civilians! They had been going about their work, or engaging in various forms of entertainment... Yet had been caught up in a struggle between powerful Forgers. This was one of the things he hated about those blessed with power, yet chose to undermine their beginnings and roots.

He clenched his fists, with his nails digging deeply into his palms to the point that blood was drawn, yet he didn't seem to notice, only having his gaze intently focussed upon the falling building. He wasn't going to avert his eyes and pretend that he couldn't see it. No! He was going to watch!

But as his anguish at his powerlessness was about to reach a peak, something happened that caused his heart to swell with relief and happiness, as if a perched man had suddenly been provided with water.

A massive blue colored block trapped the falling building, encasing it like amber, and slowing its descent, while rippling from the aftershocks of those fighting up above. A crystal stage had acted!

"THANK YOUUUUUUUUU!!!"

Bosingwa swallowed air through his nose like a whale before bellowing out those words even as tears slid down his face, ones not of despair and sadness but of joy.

"...he-help-he-lp!"

A voice, so weak that without his enhanced hearing, would have been missed, entered his ears, like the caress of a whisper.

Bosingwa turned towards the direction of origin, only to catch sight of a gruesome scene. A piece of metal, probably a roof of some vehicle, was bedded within the ground, with the upper torso of a man on one side, the one facing him.

Blood had already pooled around the man in a volume large enough to signify that he was at the end of the tether.

Bosingwa instantly appeared right next to the man, with Ice and Larssen tagging along, though with most of their attention focussed on the figures clashing up in the sky.

He instantly gained the full picture upon appearing next to the man. He had been separated at the waist, and the lower half of his torso was on the other side where his vision was being blocked by the large metal piece.

"You..."

He didn't even know what to say. The man's breaths were labored, yet he was struggling to hold onto life through sheer will.

"He-..." Bosingwa crouched in close, bringing his ears near the man's lips.

"H-e-lp her!"

"Her!?" Bosingwa parroted before looking around, trying to find out whether there was still someone living within the carnage. Many dead bodies littered the scene, the unlucky ones who had failed to evacuate in time.

Bosingwa enhanced his senses to try and pick out any sign of life only to be dissapointed. There was no one still alive except for the guy, and even he, was about to leave this world.

"I am sorry. Everyone is dead."

Lying wouldn't have made anything better. So, he told the truth, only for the guy to stop breathing at that moment. His will to cling to life had been extinguished.

A sad feeling welled up, but Bosingwa sealed it away for the moment. Now wasn't the right time. There were still too many people to save.

"Let's move on!" He ordered before taking the lead.

This area might have been left with nothing more than corpses, but there were still other areas with living people.

Bosingwa took a glance upwards only to see that the battle appeared to be moving away from this area, which was a good sign as saving people would now become easier. He had already spotted AI robots and people working together to save and evacuate people.
