Chapter 10: Losing more than winning

Chapter 10: Losing more than winning

As i run toward the gray beans, the raging monster run in my direction too. If they didn't move before, now they'll be forced to if they don't want to be ran over by it. I doubt their wooden staves will stop it, even with techniques added to it it's impossible. They realize what's coming in their direction and start preparing.

First they hold a formation to try to stop it with said techniques. Second they recalculate this option with great doubts. Lastly, I rush between them, making one fall on his back. The other two realizes it's too late help him or they will end up getting caught up by the enormous green goblin. I admit I'm not proud of my action but it was too tempting. I'm sure they would have done the same in my situation or even worse, watch as I get splattered around.

Luckily for him it achieve the impossible by rolling just between the legs at the moment it stomp the ground, dodging by a hair the crunching feet of the monster. Though it is still stunned by the stomping and the shock wave it provokes on his body. Serve you right gray bean!

I'm not too fan of this type of action but I was ready to do anything to survive and I mean it. Even more when I know someone is enjoying the view of me being killed mercilessly.

[The state of rage from the Chief of the green brigade will last 3:59, try to survive in the meantime.]

Alright I just have to hold like this for 4 more minutes and I'll be saved. Just kidding I'm already on the brinks of fainting, I seriously should have done some training or sport before getting in this situation. I am delusional, even if I wanted to, I still wouldn't chose to exercise or train.

I got lost in the chain of my though and what makes me come back to my sense is the fact I don't hear the stomping behind me. I turn around to see why and what I witness is pure joy. The gray beings are fighting the monsters. The frustrating part is that they don't seem to struggle. Even with their tiny body they propel themselves in the air to hit the monster from the air. There is even one on its back pummeling it with his wooden staff. This reminds me of a game I forgot about.

Seriously they are holding grounds with the berserk green goblin with ease, I stop to catch my breath again, even falling on the ground. I now understand why they didn't want to get mixed up with us, they are on a whole other level than us in terms of fighting practice and techniques. Are they trained for this kind of situations where they come from?

I turn around to see where Blue and Red are at. They are both at the side of Piggy that seemed to regain consciousness. I'm relieved to see this, if one have the right to go outside it's him. A kind person like him doesn't deserve to be in a place like this.

[The state of rage from the Chief of the green brigade will last 0:41, try to survive in the meantime.]

It's been 3 minutes none stop they are fighting it and they didn't receive a single hit. At this rate the fight will be over because it will lose its raging mode and be weaker. I let a sight out like victory was already.

[The chief of the green brigade is preparing a powerful skill, stop it before it cast it or suffer great consequences.]

--- Shit!

I really had to think it was easy again, I really have to lose this habits. The skin of the green goblin start little by little to turn red as it compress its muscles while withstanding the attacks of the never stopping gray beans.

I'm not ready to see what consequences we will have to bear if it cast it so quick, think about something, quick! For a moment I forgot about the watch. I look at my inventory at full speed, I have a my sword and shield, my dagger and this bottle of piss of Grign'.

Seriously why couldn't I pull some legendary stuff with those 5 Rediriums, why did it have to be a bottle of piss! I got to try this, after all if I die with it in my inventory I'll haunt this old man for eternity. I take out the item to hold it in my hand. I run toward the monster while holding my hand preparing to throw the bottle with all my strength. I was never good at throwing things but now it's the time to do it.

The monster become scarier by seconds passing, its skin is now a bright red like it was ready to explode. Smoke is coming out of its skin, the gray fighter had to jump out of his back if he didn't want to burn himself.

At a reasonable distance I throw the bottle like it was the last thing to do to save the universe. I hold my breath while the bottle fly in the direction of the green goblin, I'm not even convinced it will work but at least I had to try.

The bottle finally reached the monster, exploding on its face while leaving some shard of glasses on its face. The chief immediately cry in agony and its skin turns back green immediately. The poor creature try to open its eyes but some shards got under its eyelids, making it even more painful than before. The scariest part is that some urine also go in the wound of the green goblin. It seems by its reaction it is highly acidic, it's suffering is not ready to halt. I even want to put it out of misery at this point.

The smell on the other hand is as strong as it is described. Even at around 5 meters from it I smell this nauseous stench.

[Congratulation, you stopped the the incoming of a devastating skill, you will receive an additional reward at the end of the trial if you survive.]

Great way to cheer me up, watch. Now is the time to finish it or we won't have any other occasions.

I hear some steps behind me running in the direction of the green goblin holding its head between its hands, trying to pick some shards stuck in its eyes. I turn around and Blue jump right above me, his blade well prepared in his three-fingers hands.

In a single strike he pierces the throat of the chief of the green brigade while finishing by cutting its head while the blade was still in it. In a quick strike everything ended. I can't believe it, I survived, I survived!! Blue turn around to look at me while it wipe the stain of blood on his sword. Even though he doesn't have a mouth I decipher a sense of joy in Blue.

When I get back in the market I'll be sure to thank the old merchant, without him, this would've ended really badly.

[Congratulation! You participated in the elimination of the chief of the green goblin. You receive 35 Rediriums and 25 experience from this fight. Additionally, you will receive a greater reward after gaining the achievement of stopping a devastating boss skill.]

[You now have the right to roll for a random item in the pool of items in the trial of the green brigade. Would you like to roll?]

So many notifications one after another. At first I'm happy, it is just like in video games. But reality comes back as hard as being hit by a truck. How many were we to participate in it and how many escape from this hellhole alive? Only for the entertainment of beings watching this. The sense of bitterness comes back, I feel that this is just the beginning and something scarier awaits me each time. For now I'll enjoy this win with my companions.

I look around me, the gray beans doesn't care that much, they are touching their watches, probably to look what they won this round. One even pulled the club of bones of the giant goblin, his weak tentacles falling directly to the ground holding it. The scene is even funnier when you see the others gray beans trying to get his tentacles out of under the club.

On the other side of the room we are in, Red helps Piggy to walk toward Blue and me. A sense of relief mixed with sadness appear on the face of both of them. They were of the same species of numerous of their companions. I can't imagine what I would've done if they were humans and I was the only survivor of this trial.

I will now roll to see what I gained from this trial. Hoping my luck doesn't match the score of my statistics.
