The Chosen One

The Chosen One

The moonlight flooded the surroundings. The sky was clear as the storm finally eased, Glimmering under the it was the river as the moon reflected through its surface while blood tainted the stream as the casualties bled from their lifeless bodies.

Nicolas’s body slowly slipped from the edge of the waterfall and travelled down to the people below. His soul remained on the tight grasp of Liam as he’s slowly eaten by the darkness.

Though the surroundings looked like a perfect painting of peace, the terror and horror lingering in the air pinned everyone hopelessly from where they stood as they watched the events above.

“If only you did not resist, then we might have given your body a proper burial”, Liam whispered to Nicolas.

The boy was reduced to screams. He can feel himself splitting in two, like a paper being shredded into bits for disposal. Matthew on the distance fell to his knees, his eyes wide as he watched Nicolas suffer as he struggled to keep his soul intact.

“How about you Matthew?”, Liam looked at him. “Come here”

Out of pure terror the boy heeded his call. He was uncontrollably shaking as he slowly walked closer and closer to Liam’s outstretched hand.

“Leave the body and come back to me”, the Broken Hero’s eyes were fixated on him.

Matthew suddenly stepped back. He can’t say a word from all the trembling but vigorous shaking of his head pertaining to refusal.

“You are in no position to disagree, your only making it worse for Nicolas. Decide already. Either carry half his burden or watch him suffer”, Liam rushed the ritual even more, delivering more pain to his captive.

Nicolas’s struggling eyes stared deeply into Matthew, his eyes screaming “run” at his twin but Matthew has other plans.

The last thing that Matthew did not wish for was to see someone dear to him suffering. Though kindness was his defining trait, it always worked like a double edge blade for him. He will do anything to help and lessen the burden of those in need even if it’s not the best decision.

Watching his brother in this position was the worst of the worst for him. He’s the only one he could call family, losing him would mean the end of the world. He had always looked up to Nicolas, he was his savior, he made dying over and over bearable for him. Seeing him like this, he’d rather throw away the world.

And so he did, voluntarily leaving his body behind unveiling the similar blue hue of Nicolas. A sudden burst of energy was emitted as he reached for Liam’s hands. This made the Broken Hero even more delighted and he can’t help himself but laugh.

Alisa down below was devastated as she fished Nicolas’s body out of the river. A second later Matthew came floating by.

“This can’t be happening “, she whispered to herself while laying both their bodies on the river side, disregarding the looming breeze of evil from above.

“At your back Alisa!”, Lander alerted her as the giant threw another boulder.

He failed to call his ability. His injury was now far from bearable as he lied beside Alvor that’s knocked out from the giant’s last attack.

“I— I’ve had enough of this”, Alisa screamed from the top of her lungs as she burned in glory. The boulder turned to dust before it could even get close to her.

Her eyes burning with anger as her soul engulfed her body. It slowly toned down and materialized wings on her back like a phoenix. She was like a candle fending off the ever-growing darkness Liam was emitting.

“I’m tired of always being the target for murder. I’m tired of being saved because I’m too weak to act”, she uttered giving more life to her soul.

Nicolas, despite the pain, felt a bit of relief as he projected a smile. He’s already halfway from being synthesized back to Liam, but the Broken Hero’s surprise expression was so much that he would like to laugh if he could.

“What are you doing, I told you to finish her off!”, Liam exclaimed.

He’s only mobile underling jumped back to the other side without any complaint to finish Alisa off.

“You would not want to mess with me right now”, she glared and walked towards the man, her folded wings looking surreal to everyone serving as witness.

“I’m as angry as you are!”, the giant rip his hood, revealing his face.

“You call that a face?”, Alisa sassed at him.

He had no face, but a deformed nose and a scared mouth. His eyes absent as if it was aggressively wiped off leaving an irregular but menacing absurd head for a human.

“I’ll wipe that smile off your face!”, he exclaimed throwing a punch that sent Alisa flying.

She looked like a shuttle cock that was smashed off the air. Sinking to the side of the mountain. Rubble covered the hole, preventing even an inch of her body to be seen. Hunter felt like he would lose his mind after seeing such a blow.

Forcefully trying to stand up and come to her rescue, he was stopped by a hysterical laugh that enveloped the atmosphere.

“You call that a punch?”, she said, slowly emerging from the ruble, “Let me teach you how to do it properly”, she suddenly disappeared, then as abruptly disappearing, she appeared in front of the giant and then delivered a punch.

It left not a dent to the monster. She did not even manage to move the man even an inch but she retreated before lowering one knee to the ground.

“You call that a punch”, the giant mocked her back, “You might as well concede…”, he was just about to finish his sentence when the ground suddenly cracked with him in the center. He fell to his knees, unable to walk despite having no physical injury.

“That punch was meant for the soul not the body”, Alisa explained as her wings slowly opened.

She was burning yellow and red as she called an unnaturally charged bow.
