Chapter 9

"Let's begin" Hayden Pryor announced with a clap getting the attention of everyone in the room. The alchemist tang was ready at his station, the freshly minted warriors carried a beaten Markus over to the churning water of the tub, the old inn keeper Calvin overseeing the remaining slaves as they worked the pump. Looking back to his employer and partners in all this madness Hayden Pryor couldn't help but grin "put him in and hook him up" he said waving to the warriors.

Markus's body went in with light splash causing the warriors to shout out in alarm as the salty water of the bath met their skin but Markus was silent from both exhaustion and having his body look up. It was so cold Markus couldn't move other even think in proper sentences or under what was being said around him. He remembered that he was supposed to stay conscious or he might not wake up again but he'd felt like he'd been submerged for hours. Just when everything started to fade a burning stream of lava entered him and he was finally able to let out a scream.

"Great ,he's been in there for less than a minute and he's already screaming incorrectly" Hector muttered as he observed the chaos in front of him. As soon as he was put into the tub Markus's body locked up and the alchemist immediately drew his blood heating and mixing it with all kinds of powders, liquids and a glow from his hands. When the blood ran down back into his veins it was glowing a light red gold color visible under his skin. Hector Vale was honestly terrified but couldn't let his subordinates know how truly freaked out he was. This was nothing like any of the tales he'd heard about cultivation, they were supposed to take pills, paint symbols on their body with paint made out of fundamental ore and eat spirit creatures not whatever this was.

"It's working" Hayden Pryor said looking around in wonder, grabbing the closest warriors by the shoulders he spun his till they were faced to face "IT'S WORKING" he shouted with child like glee. Just then Markus's arm shot out in a spasm denting the metal slightly. Snapping his head around Hayden Pryor acted quickly "help me hold him down" grabbing the stick of the warrior he was holding he did his best to press onto Markus trying to prevent him from moving. Drops of the water stug and numbed his hands but with the others help the secured Markus in place for the most part.

"Tang, how's it looking" Hayden asked once they finally got a handle on things. Without looking up from his work Tang replied enthusiastically "this is absolutely astounding, look at his blood ". Looking at the tube feeding into his body it glowed with the same faint red gold color as before, just before he was about to say something Hayden glanced at the second tube drawing blood. "Fuck" he said in astonishment watching as blue flecks started appearing in the stream of red blood giving it an almost purple hue. He truly was an absolute genius he thought to himself as the color continued to deepen as they ran their alchemic blood treatment.

After what felt I days Markus was pulled out of the helish water and layed on a cot a few meters away from the torture machine he'd been thrown into. He felt colder that his limited vocabulary could describe and his bones radiated a chill that he couldn't ignore. The sensation was ever present but for some reason felt comfortable like it was slowly numbing the discomfort all over his body. "Haha" Markus shot to his feet with a chuckle accidentally overshoot an face planting dramatically onto the hard warehouse floor. He was stunned but not from pain no but the utter lack of it. He'd done it! He'd become a cultivator.
