Ander floated in a void where nothing existed. Except of course for him. He had no arms, no legs, no body at all. All there was was him, his consciousness, his memories. Even his emotions were there, though they seemed rather sterile, collated together for easy examination. He was shocked, scared, confused, and were those feelings of betrayal? No surprise really. Usually blowing up labs that are doing human research on literal slaves doesn’t include slaughtering children.
He supposed he could still feel his emotions, kind of. Normally he wasn’t a very introspective guy, but going through his emotions like a filing cabinet was a good distraction from the void around him. It wasn’t even black like a void should be. That would be a feature, and this void was featureless. It was almost like closing your eyes and pressing on them, full of indefinable somethings that weren’t anything because they weren’t really there. Ander dragged his attention, yes his attention and not his gaze, he had no eyeballs, away from the void and to the glowing blue screen in front of him.
He was curious, his filing cabinet of emotions said so, but he didn’t feel his curiosity either. He investigated apathetically, if that was the right term. The filing cabinet didn’t say apathetic anywhere, but.. And he was distracting himself again. He didn’t seem to care all that much, so maybe apathy after all, ahh, there. Apathy is in the filing cabinet.
Ander turned his attention back to the blue screen and took a moment to digest what it said. You have died. Not exactly what he expected. Nor combat logs. Of course, having been raised Atheist he expected nonexistence, so maybe a point for the creationists? Or maybe those that believe we are in a simulation? That might track with the blue screen and the fact that he could look at the combat logs to see how he died.

What about the girl, Lily, did she survive? The combat logs didn’t say, and didn’t seem to want to change their display to suit his curiosity either. Frustrated, Ander closed the window. For a moment he froze wondering what would happen, but the blue screen simply popped up again, seeming to grow from a point directly in front of him.

Checking eligibility…
Congratulations, you are eligible to use this reincarnation totem.
Would you like to reincarnate?
Yes / No
Ander stared, actually feeling his shock this time. Reincarnation? Soooo, Buddhism? Of course, Buddhism didn’t have anything like a computer screen from the 90’s in their doctrine last he checked. Maybe it was, something, else… he was drawing blanks. All they cared about in his world religions class in high school was Buddhism, Islam, and this one weird religion about a flying spaghetti monster. He was supposed to study religion a bit more in college, but that was before he dropped out. In the end, he supposed it didn’t matter. He could reincarnate. Maybe he would reincarnate as a praying mantis. Those were cool.

On second thought, maybe not.
Ander stared at the option for a long time before eventually realizing that if he got reincarnated as something bad, he could simply die. Not like it would be the first time. He accepted the prompt.

Human / Exodar
This is getting weirder and weirder. First reincarnation and now Aliens? I thought reincarnation was a fantasy thing. Of course it didn’t describe what an Exodar was. That would make things too easy. Ander focused his desire for more information on the screen, and surprisingly, it worked.
Exodar
The Exodari are a diverse race with many subspecies. They appear mostly human, with only minor features that would make them seem different to the outside observer. Each subspecies has a singular talent that allows it to flourish amongst the other Exodari. You have discovered 0 subspecies. If you choose Exodar, a subspecies will be chosen at random. The Exodari are interesting due to the fact that they have a built in class system. They produce a class of sterile workers, called commoners in their tongue, that appear mostly human but are most similar in function to honey bee workers. However where honeybees are nominally female, Exodar commoners are nominally male.
However, there is also a class of Nobles consisting of the females of the species, as well as a select group of male commoners that have undergone metamorphosis. This metamorphosis gives them both greater height than the commoners (7-8 feet tall) as well as impressive psionic abilities. Females generally range from 5-6 feet tall.
Exodari breed at a rate of approximately 30 Commoners to 5 Females to 1 Male capable of undergoing metamorphosis. Like in bees, the commoners do most of the work needed to keep the species alive. Females spend most of their time pregnant, tending to their eggs, or tending to their husband. The Nobles spend their time leading and organizing the commoners.

Human / Exodar
Well. Wasn’t that interesting. A bioengineered race of people, who are born in adolescence, and who have magic? Psionics he supposed, but did that mean magic was real? That did of course clinch the decision. Become a human baby and live another 18 years with human refuse before he can do anything, or become a magical bioengineered alien dude? There wasn’t really a choice. Ander watched as bitterness came to the top of what he was calling his emotional filing cabinet. At first he thought about trying to ‘file’ the bitterness somewhere far away, but realized he didn’t want to. How are you supposed to feel when the people you trust trick you into murdering children? He had no doubt that the daycare class he saved was not the only one. It was a big facility, there had to be others. The only question was, how many?
Ander sat, or rather floated, and stewed on that thought for a while before remembering the prompt. Exodar had to be better than human, right? They were like bees, industrious and always working together. That had to be better than the ways humans did things. He thought back to when he was in school, and tried to snort derisively. He then remembered he had no body. And so he chose.
Congratulations on choosing Exodar.
