Corwin bought a lot of trash items, everything he could find at level 1 or level 0 for every piece of gear that needed items to upgrade, including the ones he didn’t have yet. While this was slightly presumptuous Corwin did have a large inventory, and the items did stack so it cost only silvers. Corwin also picked up a custom order for helmets he had made before leaving for the divine trial. That one was more expensive, requiring a gold per helmet.
Corwin’s next priority was to reach level 10, so he’d be able to enter cities. To do so, he consulted a map of the area and found a zone with level 12 monsters. This would result in a manageable 2.2 levels of suppression while giving a massive XP bonus. At level 10, there was a substantial transformation in monster quality. Players were expected to have at least bronze gear by level 10, so monsters were adjusted accordingly. As such, level 9 monsters were much easier to fight than level 10 ones. Level 10 also required 10x the experience of level 9 instead of the regular four times. Level 12 monsters would enable Corwin to level up quite quickly as they were roughly 640x the experience of a level 8 mob.
Level 8 was designed to be completed in 3 days of nighttime grinding, which was 72 in-game hours. The expected kill rate was 60 monsters an hour, so 4,320 monsters would need to be killed for a level. Instead, Corwin needed to kill 7 level 12 monsters. His levelling was like a rocket ship.
In this zone, the level 12 monsters were cave bears and they dropped valuable hides and claws. The effects of level suppression were quite powerful at just over 2 levels of suppression. Corwin had his damage reduced by about 70%, and incoming damage was increased to roughly 3 times normal. Corwin’s high strength was equal to the challenge however, and grinding a bear took roughly 5 minutes. After just over 30 minutes, Corwin reached level 9. He was able to upgraded all his upgradeable gear to level 11 and enjoyed the attribute boost provided.
Level 10 was more of a slog. It would take over 70 level 12 bears to advance to level 10. Fortunately, at only 0.6 levels of suppression Corwin was able to fight upcurve easily. The five-minute kill time dropped to a more typical minute. The spawn rates were sufficient to keep up with Corwin’s killing frenzy as at this stage of the game he had such areas to himself. Just over an hour later Corwin was level 10. He once again upgraded his upgradeable gear, this time only by a single level.
Corwin made his way to Avignguard at this point in the game, aiming for the bonus to be the first player to enter a city. He was successful.

Corwin was lucky as 2 of the gemstones were agility gemstones. He visited a jewel crafter and paid them to slot two of the +10 AGI gemstones into his two growth armors. He planned to replace them with higher tier gemstones later but for now +20 agility was still a nice bonus.
Corwin visited vendors in the night market of the city, buying them completely out of the crafting ingredients he needed, enjoying the ample quantities and selection a city provided compared to a village. He also went to the smithy and had all his equipment repaired.
Finally, Corwin went to a crafting area and began to work on bronze cloth armors. He had neglected to become an apprentice tailor and wanted to get the bonus crafting gear while the opportunity was still open. He was lucky his earlier delay did not cost him.

Corwin switched to saving up a huge stash of bronze items, crafting over 100 copies of every bronze level 5 recipe he had. Tomorrow he would sell them in the auction house of Orleans. His crafting experience slowly ticked upwards but was far from the level needed for Journeyman. To make serious progress he’d need some level 10 recipes. That being said, his staff recipe was woodworking and he eventually received a familiar set of notifications.

Corwin decided that 100 bronze items would be enough to satisfy demand and began to craft 50 copies of every iron level 5 recipe he had. The iron recipes gave more experience and had more difficulty and even with his bonus from gear and plentiful experience Corwin would fail often. Still he stabilized at producing about 1 in 3 successes. Corwin only had enough supplies to make 50 copies of the iron recipes, and planned on buying more supplies in the capital city tomorrow. Doing so many attempts at crafting took quite some time and fairly soon daylight approached. Corwin visited the regular vendors as they opened and similar bought out the crafting ingredients he needed. The auction house had opened as well and Corwin bid on some rare crafting ingredients he needed for arrays. Finally, he headed for the city gate, ready to meet with Princess Medea.
