Chapter 9 A Trip

A Trip

"Yes, yes, I could feel it," he said as his eyes locked into the priest's eyes, only to look away immediately, unable to contain the disgust settling in his guts. "It was comforting yet unsettling; it was a very weird experience."

"Well, well, well, aren't you a smart little one? I look forward to your awakening," the priest said.

"Thank you very much, Father Helix," Edward stepped forward, a smile threatening to break out as he bowed, feeling surges of overwhelming happiness, appreciation, and respect for Father Helix for successfully conducting the first of two parts to a complete awakening.

"It is all God's will," Father Helix said. "My time to leave has come; I look forward to what your family can bring," Father Helix replied, glancing towards Claire and with a curt bow, left the house along with the nun in training.

Silence reigned for a few seconds after Father Helix had left when Eron suddenly felt a tight grasp around his underarms that picked him up off the floor.

"My boy is gonna be a wizard!" It was Edward who had picked Eron up with his arm as he proudly stated to everyone in the room with a loud laugh followed by the statement, his happiness currently unprecedented. A miracle had happened to him.

Him and his wife, two people of no mana, being able to give birth to not one but two children, both of them with the ability of mana. No doubt Edward had considered this a miracle.

His mother, to the side, looked upon this with a particular expression of shock, which was immediately replaced with an expression of relief and a small smile. Her body that had been tense for a while regarding this matter finally relaxing.

After the initial excitement of Edward had calmed down, the adults began talking amongst themselves, letting the kids get to know each other better.

Eron was feeling a bit awkward. He still felt a trace of that mana that had flowed through his body; it was extremely minuscule, constantly moving around inside Eron's body.

It was moving around in random directions all over the insides of Eron, looking for an escape since Eron could not absorb it. Yet somehow, Eron was keeping it inside by constantly moving it everywhere, not giving a chance to escape out of his body.

He did not have the ability to control its movements; he simply did not have such an ability yet. All he was doing was rather skillfully guiding it, setting barriers inside his body for the mana to bounce in the direction he wanted it to.

He himself could not figure out how he was doing what he was doing; all he knew was that he was doing it.

"Hey, my name is Felix," a boy with greenish dirt-brown hair approached him with a smile, slight freckles on his rather fair and delicate skin. He extended his hand as a manner of courteous greeting.

You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.

Eron glanced at the hands and, recalling from the memories, knew what Felix meant by this gesture.

Eron naturally smiled and shook hands with Felix, greeting him, "Hello, my name is Eron."

A few days had since passed since his awakening now.

Eron was in front of a different house, knocking on the doors, patiently waiting for Felix to open.

A few seconds later, the door did indeed open, and Felix greeted him wearing a white shirt underneath brown khaki overalls.

Felix excitedly greeted Eron, matching the enthusiasm Eron felt inside as they both set off to play around.

Walking around, they were casually talking when they suddenly heard a scream. Glancing at each other for a second, they both almost instantly ran towards the scream that came from an alleyway.

Right now, they were far away from the residential area and were in the commercial district of the town, a place filled with plenty of alleys.

Reaching this specific alley, they noticed two groups of men fighting. Both groups seemed drunk, so it was a mid-day brawl. Something not too uncommon in the remote areas of the commercial district like this, filled with small shops and pubs.

What was an uncommon sight in these brawls were blood.

One of the men had a shattered bottle dripping with crimson drops of blood, while another man who was barely standing, stumbling on himself slightly, held his lower stomach, stopping the blood from spilling out with a pained expression.

There was a silence permeating through both groups. Eron assumed that it must have been because the realization of their actions was setting in.

Blood was usually a rare sight during these mid-day brawls, almost mythical. This was due to the simple fact that if they were to be caught, the punishment is at least a year in the dungeons for the parties involved, and a brawl in mid-day in an alley of the commercial district isn't exactly a secret hidden location.

A year of no work during these times was basically like a death sentence for these people's families that depended on them.

Too many witnesses.

"Let's get out of here," a soft voice broke the silence behind him.

"Run!" one of the men in the same group as the man with the bottle shouted, snapping both groups out of their reverie.

The group hurriedly ran past Eron and Felix, failing to notice them due to their drunken panic.

The man who had previously been bleeding before fell to the ground; Eron caught a sight of his hands loosening the grip holding the stabbed wound as blood started gushing out.

The men who were in the same group as the man who had fallen also panicked and ran in another direction, not wanting to be anywhere near this scene.

The man who had been stabbed was probably dead, so there was no one left to vouch for them anymore.

Looking at Felix, Eron noticed how flushed Felix's cheeks were; he looked like he would vomit at any moment.

It must be the blood.

He remembered how the man whose memories belonged to had first reacted to having drawn someone else's blood personally.

"Let's go, Felix," Eron said, grabbing Felix's hand and quickly moving away from there.

He himself did not like the view of blood pouring out, nor did he want to get implicated.

He did find it weird as to why he didn't feel the repulsiveness one would normally feel after seeing a human dying in front of them for the first time.

They walked a bit of distance and finally arrived at a bustling part of the commercial district where people roamed about freely, the aromatic smells of street-side food mixed with the dirty smell of the river and the roads all causing a mix of different types of smells.

"You'll get used to it," Felix said with a chuckle while looking towards Eron.

"Are you okay?" Eron asked, looking at Felix still concerned about his state.

Although Eron felt that the reaction of Felix was justified, it just didn't seem quite right.

"Ah, forget about that; let's go get some food," Felix said with a wave that represented dismissal.

Eron was quiet for a second, but in the end, shrugged and followed Felix, who was a few steps ahead.
