“What you did was reckless! You could have been seriously hurt, not to mention I should take you back with me!” Officer George scolded me with a frown on his face.
I hadn’t thought to be reprimanded once the police turned up. Once we had secured the two men and their pokemon, mainly by having our pokemon sit on them so they couldn’t move, we sat down to wait. Sam had said it shouldn’t take to long once he hung up his pokenav as the person on the other side had said they would send a rapid response officer while backup took longer. At that one of the men had started cursing and tried to escape again resulting in his big jacket to rip on nidorinos spikes which is when I saw the red R symbol on his chest.
O shit Team Rocket? What did I do to have them after me?! I remember thinking. With that information coming to light I thought the police would be all over them but after turning up in a cloud of dust on the back of a panting Arcanine Officer George had quickly hand cuffed the two rocket grunts and frisked them for more pokeballs before he started getting statements from everyone. Upon hearing me getting into a fistfight with one of them he had gotten rather angry but had made no move to arrest me as well. Thankfully his tirade at me being reckless and dumb had been broken by the arrival of a police van with an extra two officers, and older lady Officer Ann, and too my surprise, a younger Junior Officer named Jenny. I must have made a face when she was introduced as she said “it’s a title not my real name”. So I’m guessing that Officer Jenny is a rank rather than an actual person? More questions for later.
“So if there any additional information you can give us before we leave?” Officer Ann asked me while the other two officers loaded the men into the back of the van.
“Well one of them said something that bothered me. What was it, “We have been looking for you eevee boy” or something like that. Sounded like they were after me specifically for some reason.”
“Why eevee boy?”
“Well I suppose its because I have a few eevees”. Hearing that made everyone look at me.
“You have more than one?”
“A few?”
“Really can I see them?!”
“Exactly how many sir?” Officer Ann cut over the others with a stern look.
“Five” I mumbled.
“FIVE?!” Shouted Danny. When did he get so close, even Officer Ann seemed surprised.
“Well that’s probably their motive then. 5 rare and valuable pokemon being held by a 0 badge trainer. You really need to get some training in or travel in a group for safety I would recommend.” She said snapping her notebook shut. Shortly after that all the officers had left and the group and I were standing around looking at each other, all waiting for someone else to speak first.
“Well …..” I started before Danny yelled out.
“I WANNA SEE ALL THE EEVEES!”
“How about in the morning Danny, I could use some sleep to be honest.”
“Awwwww.”
Thankfully Quinn agreed and we all took some well deserved rest.
The next morning came too soon with my tent shaking violently and I could hear ponyta snort himself awake in fright.
“WAKE UP JOSH! Why do grownups like sleeping so much?! You said I could meet them in the morning!”
“BELLSPROUT”
Bloody kids. With a grumble I got dressed and exited the tent seeing Quinn and Sam in not much better state than I was, all of us giving Danny the stink eye not that he noticed. I didn’t have the energy to deal with him this early in the morning so I gave in and released my whole team.
A series of barks and calls rang through the clearing and soon everyone had an eevee sniffing them and demanding pats. Gin tucked up between my legs in a defensive and possessive manner giving the others a nip when they came near.
“Its alright Gin, bad guys are gone now.” Thankfully the worst of her injuries had been taken care of by the potion bottle that I had kept for emergencies. Seeing how effective it was I swore to grab a couple next time I was near a shop.
Sam offered me a coffee he had made and gave the second to Quinn who I wasn’t sure if she was actually awake or just sleeping upright on a log.
“So Josh” Sam started getting my attention. “Quinn and I were talking before we went to sleep last night and we agree with Officer Ann from last night. You need more training and should travel with a group till then. Do you want to travel with us?”
“That’s actually a great offer. But I was heading down towards Pallet town, aren’t you guys heading back towards Terracotta?”
“Danny looks like he is having a great time I’m sure he wouldn’t mind us detouring down to Pallet town rather than heading straight home. Is that alright with you Danny?” He called out.
Danny gave us a thumbs up from underneath the pile of eevees he was covered in.

After Quinn looked at her old map we had figured out that we were less than a days walk from Pallet town and that between us we had enough food to feed us all, and our pokemon for 3 days. Sam and Quinn had much higher quality pokechow than I did and they swore that it was worth it simply as you could carry less and feed your team for the same amount of time. Neither of them had attracted sponsor when doing the circuit the previous year so money had been to tight to afford one of Sliph Co’s adventure bags. So we had enough food to take our time and slowly made our way down towards Pallet town. It turns out Sam had originally started out with a goal of developing a poison based team and had a nidorina, tentacruel and a gloom so his pokemon didn’t have a huge overlap with mine though I had asked if he would be able to teach us the move Bite. I figured it was a different type energy that my team of eevees could all learn, but mainly I had plans to evolve one of them into an umbreon so getting them started on dark type energy couldn’t hurt. It was Quinns pokemon that were more suitable as training partners with her wigglytuff being an absolute beast and knowing lots of moves, in addition to her having a tentacruel as well (actually how the two had meet when younger fishing for water pokemon at the beach) she had a rhyhorn and a persian. Between the three of us we decided on a couple moves that would benefit my team greatly. They recommended Swift as it would give my team a move with range and I asked if she could teach Gin that Play Rough move. She had gotten a doubtful look on her face and explained how it was surprisingly energy intensive on top of being fairy energy. After a few minutes of questioning we had ended up on the move Charm which made use of fairy energy to mess with the opposing pokemon and make it reluctant to attack. I may have gotten a bit pushy with wanting to learn a fairy move as Quinn had given me an odd look towards the end before agreeing. They had all looked at me a tad odd when I only had Gin start learning Charm from wigglytuff, Rum learning Bite from Sams nidorino and the rest learning swift from persian. I tried to explain it off saying that as they are all eevees they learn really quickly from each other and that swift was the move I wanted most of them fastest. I’m not sure they bought my lie as I saw Quinn and Sam looking thoughtfully at my team over the rest of the day. I promised myself I would tell them the real reason why if any of my ideas worked.
So for the next two days we walked in the morning and spent the afternoons training and relaxing at the best campsites we could find. It was honestly the life, I was going to really miss these guys when they had to turn around and head home after reaching Pallet town. With their guidance and help from their pokemon my eevees picked up swift in no time, with Rum getting a weak Bite attack going the next day. Gin was struggling with figuring out the fairy energy Charm move and I was beginning to think that perhaps I should let one or two of the others have a go when on the last evening before we reached Pallet town she figured it out.
With a triumphant bark Gin came running over towards me as I was sitting relaxing with ponyta next to me before sitting down in front of me and looking me dead in the eye.
“What’s up Gin? You got something to show me?” I asked her.
“Eevee!” she barked happily before she developed a slight pink glow.
OMG this dog is precious and I could never hurt her she means everything to me OMG… wait what the fuck?
I realised that I was kneeling down and hugging her as the pink glow around her faded. That was some serious mind fuckery, I better watch out for that.
“That’s was amazing Gin! Who’s a good girl? You are! You’re the best!”
“Eevee! Vee vee eevee!” Gin jumped up and did a few backwards hops in joy before pausing briefly.
“Vee?” Gin made a slight questioning sound before a bright white glow overtook her.
“Josh is Gin evolving?! I didn’t see you give her a stone?” I heard Danny shout from where the others were sitting down eating dinner.
I didn’t pay him any attention, my focus was solely on Gins evolution. I had hoped this would happen. As a normal dog Gin had been breed from a border collie, a line that is know to be obsessive and clingy to their owner. Gin had been no different and I had hoped that plus the having her for years would translate across to the love requirement that the games say you need to evolve a eevee into a slyveon. All that I was missing was the fairy part and Quinn and her wigglytuff gave me the opportunity to meet that.
“Sylveon!” With a final cry the bright light dimmed and I saw Gin in her new form. Her small brown body had changed significantly in every way, with her growing taller, her fur turning pristine white, her ears and tail turning a shiny rose pink and her eyes, big and blue, stared straight back at me while the ribbon things seemingly floated around her body.
“Gin! You did you beautiful creature! You’re a Slyveon!” I cried while stepping forward to engulf her in a hug as she started licking my face and her new ribbons wrapped around me.
“Josh ….. what is that pokemon?” I heard Quinn stammer from behind me. Turning my head I could see the 3 approaching me with wonder on their faces.
“Grrrrrrrr” Slyveon poked her head out from under my arm and gave them a light growl.
“None of that Slyveon, they’re friends remember?”
Looking up she gave me a look I couldn’t decipher before tucking her head under my other arm. I wonder if triggering an evolution that I based on her possessive instincts was a good idea? I suddenly wondered. I had been so caught up in if I could that I didn’t stop to think if I should. Something tapped my forehead and focusing on the now I realised that one of Slyveons ribbon arms was floating in front of my face.
“Helloooooo Josh. Calling Mr Josh.”
“Ooops sorry guys got distracted again” I said sheepishly, standing up and slyveon took her place between my legs with her ribbons still wrapped around my legs. “What were you saying?”
“We were asking what pokemon that was? I’ve never seen it before.” Asked Sam.
“She’s a Slyveon. Eevee’s fairy evolution.”
“I didn’t know that eevee’s had a fairy type! She’s so white and fluffy!” Danny exclaimed while reaching forward, causing Slyveon to shy backwards.
“It’s ok Slyveon, Danny won’t hurt you.” Slyveon shyly reached one of her ribbons forward until it was touching Danny’s hand. Suddenly her posture relaxed and she walked forward to lean on him while shooting him a look demanding to be patted. Huh that was a quick attitude change I thought to myself. I’m guessing her temperament will probably change again and I had barely gotten use to their new eevee forms. On that thought I should probably let the rest of the team meet the new Gin. I think Ill call her Slyveon now I thought watching her slowly touch both Sam and Quinn before confidently walking forward and schmoozing their legs like a cat. She is so different from how she first was she is basically a different person.
Reaching down to my belt I let the rest of my team out, ponyta included who I had put in his ball for a bit to get him used to it as we were getting near to a town. Once the flash had died down my team started barking, with one neigh, before stopping and noticing the new pokemon next to me.
“Hey guys don’t panic but this Gin in her new form as a slyveon.”
As one my eevees crept forward their noses twitching furiously as they took in her new scent, before Ale let out a happy bark and performed a big play bow to slyveon to which she returned in kind with her ribbons raised up into the air. With a sudden rush of movement they all took off running around the campsite, slyveon easily catching up to each one and giving them a tap before running off, enjoying her new speed advantage. I turned around to start answering the questions that I could see were trying to explode out of the three behind me.
