Chapter 7 - Change

Chapter 7 - Change

By the time I got to school the situation was even worse than I could imagined. The school grounds were vandalized, broken glass, trash everywhere. Given enough time and people would think this was an abandoned school. I wanted to let out my frustration but what good would that do. If I did, I felt like I wouldn’t to stop. Every step weighs down on my legs. This is how my life is going to be. No friends, no family besides my sister and a constant hit on our back for something I had no control over. Funny how I always wanted to awaken my soul weapon and now that I did, the whole world is against me. I guess being soulless was a lot better than this.

The classroom was no different. It was turned upside down like a tornado came and wreck everything. The only decent chair and desk had cuts and blood on them. I couldn’t even imagine my classmates fighting but now anything could be possible. Hours past crushed under the silent pressured, why did I even bother coming to school. Suddenly the door opened. I was startled but now surprise to see someone still here. He looked intimidating. His sharp eyes like an animal and red hair. He looked like your typical delinquent. His hair blood red with two strands of hair falling in front of his face. “Get up.” His voice low yet steady made me swallowed my saliva. I don’t even know him but for some reason he acts like he knows me. “I’m sorry, I don’t remember what I did but I’m sorry if I did anything wrong to you” I said immediately out fear and in my own way to avoid trouble, but he swung his fist out of nowhere.

POV: Narrator

With the situation taking such a drastic turn Kazuki, was in a state of daze and confusion. He could not tell whether he was hit with a human hand or a brick. Souh,, grabbed Kazuki by the collar and pulled him closer. His brow furrowed to show his displeasure “Hey, why the fuck are you acting all weak now?” Souh’s voice reverberated with a tension. Kazuki, couldn’t respond due to shock and fearing Souh. This however aggravated Souh who couldn’t understand why the very same person who showed no expression toying him and the demon now showing a fearful sight. It disgusted him to no end that he started beating him up. He showed no signs of stopping. The longer Kazuki, cowered in pain the more Souh felt a sense of dissatisfaction.

Kazuki, was about to pass out from the pain before suddenly stopped. Two people had just opened the door to see what the commotion was inside. One of the boy’s dirty blonde messy hair, bright emerald, green colored eyes. He stood there with a child-like charm radiating a smile that could be seen from a mile away. His physique was noticeably fit. The other could be describe as the opposite of his friend. His face more serious, tense. He did not smile much. The other had bright color blonde hair, light blue eyes almost grey. The hair neatly trimmed. The companion noticeably slimmer.

The blue-eyed boy observed the class and situation. After some time, the blue eyed walked towards Souh and Kazuki. His friend surprise at his sudden action asked curiously “Hey, what are you doing, man?” his manner the same as a child would ask

“Be quiet for a moment, Zach.” The blue-eyed boy called out. His voice soft sounding yet a steady. Contrasting his effeminate androgynous face. Zach suddenly backed off defensively. He gleefully remark “Man, did you not sleep yesterday? So cranky.” The friend felt irritated not because his friend was right but that Zach, himself didn’t realize he’s the reason he couldn’t sleep. The both of them locked eyes. Souh looking at him fiercely and the blue-eyed boy stared calmly in return. Souh, was the first to speak. His words not hiding his intentions “The hell you looking at you bitch. Mind your own damn business.”

Zach clasp his hands on his cheek sucking a deep breathe looking surprised “Oh my god, he called you a bitch you think he thought you were a girl again, Jin, it never gets old.” He said in an exaggerating tone. Jin, turned around glaring at Zach, giving him another warning to be quiet. Sucking his lips back to stop himself from laughing. But Zach, couldn’t control the smile on his face.

Souh, walked away without causing trouble after losing his reason for staying. However, Jin grabbed him by the arm, stopping him. A rising tension enveloped the room. “Get your hands off me.” Souh had said without turning back. Jin responded calmly “Aren’t you going to apologize to him at least.” Directing his line of sight towards Kazuki who was still laying on the ground before looking back, “He’s badly hurt because of you.”

However not a word was uttered before Souh slowly turned his head around as Jin locked with one of eyes. “Last chance, Let go” Souh said, this time with a threaten tone. Jin felt a level a hostility in Souh’s words. His hair stood on end. In all his years he’s never met anyone the same age who intimidated him. Even as jin pulled back first Souh, like a wild animal lunged towards him. Surprised by the sudden assault Jin narrowly dodged the incoming fist heading towards his face. As the both of them stared face to face with each other Souh had an irritated look in his eyes. “On second thought, you piss me off.” Souh swung another punch this time even faster than even. Caught off guard Jin, prepared for the hit but felt nothing. When he opened his eyes Zach, was standing in the between them catching the hit. Still smiling cheerfully Zach, politely laughed awkwardly before asking Souh in an optimistic tone “Sorry about that but I think we have gotten off at the wrong start. Hi, my name’s Zach” pointing at Jin before at Souh “This is Jin, my friend. What’s your name?”

A momentary silence followed. Souh, didn’t bother to listen and was about to continue his fight even if Zach, interfered. Another person suddenly opened the door again. This time a woman appeared. She has dark brown eyes with curly medium hair wearing from top to bottom military clothing stylishly adorned golden lining with simple black boots. She wore a pair of square glasses. Her eyes had a fierce look in them. She stood tall but the shortest among everyone in the room. Walking towards the boys, she took out a phone from her pocket. Looking at Jin her expression changed to a friendlier one. She handed the phone while introducing herself in perfect Japanese “Hello there, my name is Sarah Blackwood, you must be Jin Katsuragi?, son of the infamous assassin Mr. Katsuragi, yes? Your father will be giving you a call about now.” Jin’s eyes widened. He could not believe this woman approached him knowing who his father is. Just as she said earlier, the phone rang. He hesitating on whether to answer it or not he conceded to find out if this was truly his father on the other side. Barely a minute had passed since he had answered the phone before he hung up.

As Jin exited the room, she turned to look at Zach reciprocating his big smile with her own. “You must be Zachary Grey.”

“That’s me” Zach responded merrily

“There’s not much I can offer you, but I do know your best friend will be coming with us. If you come too, I can promise there will be a lot to play”

Zach’s eyes widened in surprise “Are you psychic? How did you know Jin’s my best friend?” Sarah giggled a little “No, but I do know a lot of things.”

Finally, she looked at Souh. Her expression changed not as friendly as it was with the other two but more serious. She kept a smile however, but her eyes sharpen. Souh. Felt agitated from her but before he could speak, Sarah cut him off “Now just like Zach, I have nothing to offer you but maybe we and by we, I mean the people I work for to help you find your father. Verium.” Souh’s heart and emotion was beating fast. He never told anyone the name of his father nor was there any public information about him in history book. Nevertheless, just from the mere mention of his name was enough to make him cooperate and control his behavior. No matter what he did, he could not find a trace of his father anywhere that is until now. Souh decided to put his gut who knew the name of his father.

The both of them stared at each other. Sarah could tell that Souh, was cautious of her but remained levelheaded. Souh, clicked his tongue in agreement but his action spoke otherwise. Sarah gesture to Souh to leave where she had a subordinate waiting outside to escort him. Sarah had let out a sigh before shaking her head and talking to yourself, wondering what an intimidating teenager he was. But more than that, she questioned her director for instructing her to say such a thing. Before falling in deep thoughts, she placed her own faith in her director. While she couldn’t question his boss’s questionable action, he also never gave Sarah any doubts. After a while staring down at the unconscious Kazuki. She pondered for a while tilting her head sideways wondering how to handle Kazuki. She bends down trying to wake him up first.

Kazuki, woke up, feeling Sarah, calling out his name. Struggling to open his eyes, his body throb in pain. When he finally came around, he was surprised to see an older woman in front of him. A stark contrast to the red headed boy from before. “Who are you?” he asked

“Hi, my name is Sarah, Sarah Blackwood. I know this is sudden, but I would like you to come with me. Your sister is waiting outside.” She spoke softly and slowly knowing that Kazuki must still be feeling dazed. But when Sarah mentioned his sister Kazuki, forcefully got up wanting to ask how this woman knew his family and was she safe. But before he could Sarah, gestured him not to too, telling him to preserve his energy. Supporting Kazuki, they both walked out of the classroom.

Walking outside Sarah informed Kazuki, about what had happened in the classroom and that another subordinate would fill him in about his sister. A tall red headed girl had walked from all the way from the other side of the field. Her skin glistened in the sun. with her every step she took exude as a sort of beauty that no one outside could open their mouth but stare. Sarah leaned in closer with a smile “Do you have a crush?”

Startled “What? No…I…” Kazuki, couldn’t say a word from the sudden playful remark.

Sarah chuckled slightly at Kazuki “How nice it is to be young, but word of advice I would just give it up.”

In front of Kazuki, was Zach who whispering to Jin “Dude, time for you to put some make up now. I think she’s prettier than you.” Jin immediately retaliated pinching Zach. Zach tapped out in laughter. Jin scowled at Zach “Say that again and the last thing you’ll do is laugh.” Zach still laughing backed off defensively. Noticing some more people from a distant Zach point with his chin “Where do you think those 4 are going?”

“Probably wherever we’re going” Jin, replied.

Getting closer to the gate Kazuki noticed several soldiers’ stations with Humvee like vehicle. Kazuki, felt intimidated because while they might seem like military soldiers their uniform were not the standard Japanese uniforms that he recognizes. It was black laced with gold markings. One the soldiers in his mid-30s who was smoking looking up at the sky wearing sunglasses. Noticed his superior and gave a wave before open the door to the Humvee. Inside was Kazuki’s sister sitting inside looking terrified. Kazuki ran in front calling out her name, turning around she cried as she called out for her brother. When he looked at the officer with sunglasses, he took off his shade revealing his coffee brown eyes. His voice deep and mature “Get in kid, I’ll explain in the car.”
