Emma and App

Emma and App

It had been a long time since Emma had gone on a proper date. The last one had been with a girl called App, back when she was a teenager. App had taken her to the movies. Afterwards, they went to a Chinese restaurant. They’d eaten, and then she’d asked Emma to come back to her place. They had made love and then Emma set App’s liver on fire. Soon after that, Emma left. They didn’t talk for a long time after that. The last time she’d seen App was when she was in a small hospital after she’d lost her leg in an accident. The doctors had taken her to another room to go over her medical records, and that’s when she saw App. She remembered seeing App. Her arms looked burnt. This makes Emma uncomfortable. She started sweating.

Emma was relieved when the doctors made her come back and said that she could go home. She’d given App one last glance, and they smiled at each other. They were both surprised. Emma had never felt love like App’s before. Emma left the hospital without a backwards glance. Emma knew that she probably wouldn’t see App again, but she hopes that she will. Emma was 19.

Since the hospital moment, she’d been very upset about leaving App. She felt kind of bad about it, but she knew that it was better for everyone. Emma had been sitting on her bed, crying, when she’d heard the doorbell. She’d not thought much about it but had only gone to answer it because the ringing was loud and was starting to get to her. It was her sister and her dog, Harley. They’d brought some wine. Harley gave Emma the wine and she drank it all at once. Harley then went to sit under the couch.

Emma sat in the living room with Harley. An hour had passed. She’d been thinking about the last time she’d seen App. She still misses her. But then Emma thought out loud, “Oh my God! I forgot that I had a sister!” She felt a burst of energy and rolled onto the floor and out into her bedroom. Her sister was laying on her bed. Her arm hairs were on fire. Emma screamed, not realizing that she had probably set her sister’s arm hairs on fire.

Emma had forgotten that she had a sister. She should probably stop thinking about App so much. Emma put out her sister’s arm hair fires and then they spent the rest of the afternoon together. After that, Harley asked if they wanted to go to the store with him and they nodded and did a big wobble. They’d gotten in the back of Harley’s car and went to the Pet Store.

Emma thought that it was odd that Harley had his own car. She thought to herself, “Harley must be a very good boy.” Harley read her mind and wagged his tail.

At the pet store, Emma bought some fish and a candle. And then she saw App. She panicked. App’s hair was flaming but she seemed fine. App then turned around. She saw Emma and then they looked at each other. Emma wanted to walk up to App and burn her eyes. As Emma took a step forward, App suddenly disintegrated into a pile of dog hair. Harley barked and left the store. Emma’s eyes widened and she slowly backed out of the store. She got into the car and Harley drove her back home.

When she got home, she cried. She didn’t want App to turn into dog hair. She remembered the doctors warning that this was a possible side effect of losing a leg. Emma cried some more and lit some whiskey on fire. But then she remembered something important.

She’d left her sister in the parking lot!
