Chapter: 6 Rabbit Den

Chapter: 6 Rabbit Den

[Entering Den - Rabbit's Lair]

I got this notification as soon as I was completely in the burrow. What does it mean? Does it mean there will be stronger enemies? I don’t know and to be honest I don't care as long as I get out of this alive. Thankfully I have night vision otherwise I would be a sitting duck stumbling around in the darkness.

Knife in hand I edge my way into the den. So far I can’t see anything but those rabbits came in here so they must be somewhere. I reach a corner after a bit. This would take ages considering my pace. But after seeing the high mage shred through the wolves easily I felt vulnerable and weak.

I peer round the corner. I can see a group of rabbits heading my way. One has a white horn on its head about the size of my knife. It is also much bigger than the other rabbits.

“[Identification]”

[Horned Rabbit - Lvl.11]

It's level eleven and has a horn which looks like it could deal some damage to. All the others are above level five too. I might have to get out of here. But I can try to take out the Horned rabbit and if that works I could probably get away with killing the others as well.

I raise my bow

“[Mana Shot]”

I draw back and fire. The arrow sails towards the rabbit but its eyes suddenly flick to me and the oncoming arrow. It leaps out of the way with what feels like inhuman speed. Luckily the arrow hits one of the rabbits following it. One down.

The Horned rabbit bounds towards me not going anywhere close to as fast as before. But still fast enough to reach me in just over a second. I lash out with my knife just as it gets close but I miss. The Horned rabbit not waiting for me to ready myself lungs towards my chest. That inhuman speed from before returning. I knew there was no moving or blocking this attack. Thinking fast I put all my stat points from when I leveled up before into vitality. The Horned rabbit drives its horn right into where my left arm connects to the rest of my body. I scream pain coursing through my entire body.

It hurts, it hurts so much. The Horned rabbit pulls its horn out while I am screaming. Luckily it does not immediately follow up nor does my arm fall off. Blood gushes out of my arm. There is so much of it. I know that if I don’t do something I will die of blood loss and I don’t think the rabbits will just let me leave so I have to fight. I can't even attempt to use my bow one handed so dagger it is. The Horned rabbit watches me. I raise my gaze and look it in the eye. I glare at it, my eyes filled with rage. My hand clutches the dagger. I pull my arm back before throwing the knife at the Horned rabbit. The Horned rabbit unprepared starts to move but it is too late. The knife buries itself right next to its horn.

It falls over dead. The other rabbits stare at its corpse before running off.

Moments later my eyes shut.

My eyes flutter open after what feels like seconds. Am I dead? I look around. No still in a rabbit burrow. Wait a minute. I just moved my left arm. And there's no immense pain anymore. I look at where the Horned rabbit dug into my flesh. There's nothing there not even a scratch. Moments later notifications bombard my view.

I am still celebrating when a little rabbit head pops into view. It sees me looking at it and disappears a second later. I grin savagely.

“Time for some payback”

I walk towards where the rabbit went. Bow in hand arrow at the ready. I turn a corner. No rabbit. I turn another still no rabbit. I keep going, getting deeper and deeper. Where are all the rabbits? I pick up the pace. Corner after corner still no rabbit. That rabbit I saw before can’t have gone far. I enter what looks like a room. It goes a few meters each way and in the center sits a hole about a meter by a meter. When I look down all I can see is rushing water. The only thing is the only way out of this room is down the hole or the way I came in. I stare intently at the river below. It looks quite far away. I can barely make it out. I hear padded feet behind me. I spin around, arrow loaded.

There's so many rabbits. At Least one hundred and a tenth of them are above level ten. I instantly loose an arrow into the rabbits.

I draw another.

“[Mana Shot]”

The arrow flies, taking another rabbit out of the game.

I stare at the hoard of rabbits quickly getting closer. I only have a few seconds before they draw close enough to tear me to shreds. In a moment of panic I take a step back. Onto thin air.

I plummet down towards the river below. I curl into a ball while falling. Hoping it will soften the impact. I slam into the water. Tears form in my eyes. I feel pain yet again. I push it aside. It’s nothing like when the Horned rabbit drilled a hole in my body. I sink below the water. I kick my feet but it doesn’t work. I kick them faster while using my arms to push myself upward as well. I break the surface. Seconds later I sink below again. Willing my arms and legs to push me to the open air. I break the surface again. I heave a ragged breath before sinking into the water again.

As all this happens the rushing water pushes me farther down the river. It’s deep I can't even see the bottom. Occasionally a fish will swim past. Watching my struggle for a few seconds before swimming off. I try yet again to break the surface. I almost make it my face mere centimeters away but the water pushes me down. I slowly get deeper and deeper. Suddenly all the pressure holding me down is gone and I'm able to swim to the surface. As I take in deep breath after deep breath I manage to stay above the water.

I’m in a massive underground lake. I look around. Then I see it on the sure. A sigh of horror and relief escapes my lips.
