My head throbs. My body slouches. It feels like I have been asleep for one thousand years. Knowledge drifts through my head in a mess. Knowledge I have no memories of learning. I have no memories at all.
I sit there, eyes clamped shut, body frozen in place for what feels like years but for all I know it could have been a few seconds.
Getting bored, I will my eyes to open. Slowly they crack open letting me finally see the world. I stare in one direction unable to move any part of my body, my eyes now constantly opening and closing, blinking, yes blinking that's what it's called. Slowly more and more scraps of knowledge come unbidden into my poor little mind. All I see is a wall. A grey wall taking up every part of my vision. Unable to even crane my neck to look in another direction I slowly notice more. There are tiny cracks covering the wall everywhere, some even converging to make bigger ones!
I stare in wonder, focusing intently on the biggest of these convergences. After staring in wonder for who knows how long I get back to the immediate issue at hand.
I am finally bored of staring at the same wall and obsessing over the tiniest things. Again willing my body to move like before but, unlike before, what follows does not feel like success. When I finally manage to stumble to my feet, instead of feeling achievement I feel dread. If it was so hard to get to my feet how was I gonna explore and see if there were anymore grey walls. And then, before I could do anything else, my body started to shut down. Suddenly my legs cracked under the pressure of the rest of my body, unable to sustain my weight anymore, and before I could even react, before I could even attempt to move my hands, I was tumbling forward. Then I hear a soft thud and feel my head hitting the floor. Followed by a swift moment of pain before I drift into unconsciousness.
I’m not sure what dreams are like, considering I have never had a dream before. But I feel this is not what a dream is. I am not sure what's happening, all I can see is white walls! I stare in amazement then something hits me. These walls suck, they are so boring. There are no cracks or convergences. There is nothing, it’s just a flat wall with nothing slightly interesting.
I look down to see what the floor looks like. Then I see the floor. It’s the exact same as the wall, with no cracks or convergences. But even worse, my legs are missing! In a hurricane of fright and other emotions I look for the rest of my body. It's not there either! Horror settles upon me. Then realisation hits. This is not my fault that my body’s gone. It’s my body's fault. If it hadn’t fallen over I would not be here and my body would not be gone, so why would I care. Then it dawns on me. How was I thinking if I didn’t have a brain! This is all just one big trick. I turn around and stare at a different white wall. There must be a way to let me see my body again. I turn back and there's something standing there. I would scream, but I don’t know how or can't. It has two legs and hands with pale white skin. It does not have any hair but it is wearing tight white clothes that almost look the same colour as his skin. His eyes, when I look into them, look real, but they bore into me, making it feel like my very essence is quivering.
“Hello” the thing says
That's so unfair how the thing can talk.
“Hello” it repeats
I narrow my eyes, well I would if my body was there. Why did it repeat itself?
Suddenly a weird little blue screen appears in front of me.
[Enabling Speech]
Suddenly my vision blacks out.
It feels like I was only staring into darkness for a few seconds before I returned to the white room.
“What was that?”
Then it hits me, I spoke.
“I can speak” I practically scream.
“But how couldn’t I speak before?”
“The system enabled you to speak”
I am quickly startled out of my thoughts. The thing spoke.
“What are you?”
“I am a system controlled artificial life force but I have taken on the form of a human to make communication easier.”
Stolen story; please report.
“So what do I call you?”
“Call me Alm if it makes it easier for you”.
“Ok, so what do you mean make it easier for you”.
“I am here to answer your questions and explain what you situation is”.
“And what is my situation?”
“You are basically an enemy of the human race”.
“What is the human race?”
“I will explain the world situation”.
“Around a third of the world is conquered by the human race”.
“What is a human?” I repeat
“That does not matter”
If I had a mouth I feel like I would be frowning.
“I don’t need your help” I snarl in a moment of arrogance.
Why was this human being rude? I don’t like humans if they are like this.
“You should rea-”
“Be quiet!” I scream “I don't need your help you stupid human!”
The human smirks.
“What” I snap.
There is a flash of light blinding me, then the Human is gone.

Then yet again I black out.
I open my eyes. I’m staring at another grey wall. I stand up. But unlike last time it feels easy I can stand up! Just to make sure I quickly drop to the floor. I sit with my legs crossed. Then I get up. I’m grinning then smiling from ear to ear. I can now explore and look for more walls to my hearts content. I spin around surveying the room. The walls are all the same shades of grey just in different areas. Still smiling I see it my grin gets bigger as I see it. The exit.
I start to rush towards it but moments before I can do anything Pain courses into my head. It is almost unbearable. I stumble over to a wall leaning against it to steady myself. It feels like someone just opened up my head and shoved something inside and that is indeed what happened. A single word was inserted in my head.
Tutorial.
Tutorial. What does it mean? Why specifically the word tutorial.
“Tutorial” I murmur aloud.
[Would you like to activate the tutorial
Yes/No]
Huh?
“Whats the tutorial about?” I mutter aloud not expecting a response.
[The tutorial is a way of explaining the bare necessities to people in your situation who don’t know anything about how to get stronger or survive]
“Then yes”
[Open your status]
I stare puzzled at the little screen. Anything else? I come to a conclusion a few minutes later. Probably not. Considering what I learned so far the system is not nice. For example that dumb Human. I really hope all Humans aren't like that. But anyways, is it like what I did before? Do I just say status and hope it works?
“Status”
[Elora]
[Race: ???]
[SubRace: Elf - Lvl.1]
[Stats:]
[Stat Points: 0]
[Strength: 5]
[Agility: 8]
[Vitality: 4]
[Stamina: 5]
[Wisdom: 7]
[Skills:]
[Skill slots: 1/3]
[Identification] - Lvl.1
[Passive Skills:]
[Innate Skills/Passive Skills:]
[Silent Movement - Lvl.1]
[Night Vision - Lvl.1]
Woah. Lots of new information and what is that at the top. Elora? Is that my name? And underneath is Elf. What is an Elf? That's my main question.
I have a skill. [Identification]. What does it do? How does it work? Hopefully the same way as looking at my status.
“[Identification]!”
A blue screen pops up in front of me. Just in front of the grey wall.
[Cave wall]
That's so cool! It’s not a grey wall, it's a cave wall!
“Amazing,” I whisper.
“Time to explore” I shout
I rush towards the door then I stand on something falling forward but unlike before I stick my hands out catching my fall. I notice for the first time I seem to be wearing some kind of light green robe with a hode.
“[Identification]”
[Elven Robe]
“Oh cool, it's very hard to run. I might have to get rid of it but something tells me not to do that right now”
I pick myself up and start running toward the exit again, careful not to trip on my robe again. When I reach the exit there's a tunnel! I keep running dashing round corners. Is what I would like to say but after a few more seconds the feeling of having an unlimited amount of energy wore off. So in reality it was a bit more like I sprinted at the start which was a big mistake then when I was tired which was after like ten seconds I was slowly walking while panting trying to get some air into my poor, poor lungs. Then I would sprint again then walk while gasping for air again. This repeated for a lot longer then I would have liked but this world is not based on what I like. It would be awesome if it was though.
After What felt like ages I finally did it the cave entrance was within view. I couldn't see what was outside yet all I could see was a bright light filling the entrance. I immediately started running as fast as I could, intent on getting there as fast as possible.
