I sat staring blankly at the book I was suppose to be reading. The assigned book was about the war of dusk and dawn and was so boring I was contemplating the pro’s and con’s of feeding it to one of the goats in the livestock yard. I sat up straight as I heard the outer door to my living quarters slam shut. I stood up and faced the door just as my door burst open. Standing in the doorway was Castel. Castel was one of the royal guards of the Guardian. “Skylar! Where have you been? The Guardian has been waiting for your appointment with him for twenty minutes already.” He bellowed. “What appointment? I was told of this.” I asked shirking away from the angry man. “Dont lie to me!” he yelled grabbing my arm and dragging me out the door. He walked so quickly I had to practically jog to keep up with him. We go around a couple corners and stop before a iron bound door with a golden phoenix inscribed onto the door. Castel opened the door and shoved me through the door. We walk up to a man sitting at a table made of the highest quality ebony. Castel shoves me into a kneeling position and then kneels beside me. “You know, I never understood forcing people to kneel. Kneeling is a sign of respect but if they dont respect me whats the point of making them kneel.” Marcus the guardian said as he stood up from the table. He walked over to me and offered me his hand pulling me onto my feet. “Castel my friend next time do not be so rough with dear Skylar, she did not know, though I do think its funny that your mad at her for not knowing when it was your job to notify her.” He gave me a dry smile and said “Castle guardians can be so fussy.” He back to the table and dismissed Castel with a wave of his hand. I sat down at the table next to him. “So Skylar” He asked “How are your studies?” “Their fine, I guess, they can just be so boring.” “I can imagine” He said “I have a very important role for you and I know you wont think your ready for it. But you have to trust me.” He smiled “Today all of the eldest children of the the royal familys will be coming to become unions, you have been selected to be their leader.”
