Chapter 6: Prison Break
When everyone woke up, they all cursed their aching joints and waited for their turn in the shower. They went to the man still lying on the floor unconscious, “Should I cook him?” Daniel asked,
“Don’t do that!” Dalton exclaimed, “We will just dump the body outside the nearby hospital.”
“OK fine, have it your way,” Daniel replied reluctantly.
“Then let’s all get into the car. The flight to Denver is going to be two hours, so we will need some rest,” Dalton told them.
They all got into the car as it sped off towards his private jet.
As everyone piled into the jet, Dalton briefed everyone on the mission.
“Daniel and Thomas already know this, but." "The person we are looking for is called Chole. I am not sure about her powers though, but they must be really dangerous to be locked up in a government facility.”
“Do you know anything about the defences at the facility?” Daniel asked.
“Well not really. Mina only found out the location, but they won’t know we are so they will be off guard, I do.’t know what you guys need sneed, got you all bottles of water and a fresh pair of clothes ”
“Ummm, Dalton, why can’t we get guns or maybe bulletproof vests?"
"Well, we probably won’t need the vests, plus violence is never the answer.”
I give up. I’m going to sleep. Now wake me up when we’re there, ok? Daniel replied.
Daniel woke up with a jolt as the plane landed roughly on the ground, as he put on a pair of grey track pants and a hoodie, and as they strode out of the plane and went over to the mountain.
“Hey Dalton, I think you're right! There is nobody on guard. This should be a piece of cake. " Daniel told Dalton happily.
Then, out of nowhere, machine guns appeared and started to spew out bullets. Everyone dived for cover behind the plane, as the front of the plane was disintegrated by gunfire as it burst into flames.
"Wow, Daniel, you had to jinx us,” Thomas said, annoyed.
“Sorry guys, they must have picked us up on the radar,” Dalton said.
“Poor plane driver,” Daniel chimed in, smirking.
“Sorry to interrupt this riveting conversation you guys are having, but those machine guns are going to shred us to pieces,” Mina told everyone angrily.
“Why don’t you just stop those bullets?” Dalton asked.
“Does it look like I can magically block those machine guns? They’re shooting like a million per minute.” Daniel retorted, annoyed.
“It actually looks like it is a Browning machine gun, 450–600 rounds per minute using.50 Cal ammo,” Dalton replied.
“Just shut up, guys. I don’t make a hobby of being shot at by machine guns, but let’s try." "Daniel takes out the one on the left, Thomas takes out the one on the right, and I will take out the middle one. OK, three, two, one, GO!”
All three machine guns abruptly stopped as everyone sprinted to the guard’s outpost. The confused guards drew out their pistols, but they were too late as Daniel, extending out both hands, melted the machine guns, the guards behind it, and the metal door. Before any of them could react, Mina blasted water at the door, cooling it down as they all stepped through. As they stepped through the doors, more guards unloaded their M16 assault rifles on Thomas. But Thomas quickly morphed into stone as he leapt onto the balcony. The guards were on, grabbing both by their throats, ripping them out as they screamed silent screams as they were thrown from the railing.
Then everyone started moving forward. Dalton trailing close behind. It started to become repetitive. There was a door, then some guards behind, then another door with some other guards behind. But the deeper they went, the more they could slowly feel the energy in the place dwindle their powers, but finally, they ended up in front of a door, but this time the door was different. The door was made fully out of rubber, so Daniel just raised his hand to burn through the door but nothing happened. Then Daniel tried his watch but it was out of power.
“We are so underground in this mountain that there is no energy around here, because obviously if there was any power here, Chole could have used her powers to escape." That’s also why the door uses locks instead of newer technology for you to use.
“Shut up and get to the point!” Daniel replied, becoming increasingly frustrated as he tried to summon his power by shaking his hand.
Fine, so my point is, luckily I brought some old fashion saws and hammers, but we better hurry, more guards are coming, and those ones won’t just have assault rifles and pistols!” Dalton said, reaching into his bag and handing the objects out.
Then everyone grabbed a saw and a hammer and went to work on cutting the door open, and as Dalton started to cut into the door, the same thought occurred to all of them: “Why would someone go to the trouble of building a rubber door?" When a metal door would be stronger. When they opened the door, They saw Chole strapped down to a rubber gurney. Everyone immediately went over and started to cut the straps off. She weakly struggled to get off the gurney.
“About time someone came to save me,” she said, smirking weakly.
"No worries, we can have introductions later. We just need to keep on moving before upstairs is swarming with soldiers,” Dalton replied.
Everyone rushed out of the room. So after corridor after corridor, as it seemed that Chole was getting stronger, as they all slowly got their energy back But as they were just about to leave, they were confronted by a sight before them. On the grass ahead, tanks lined up in rows with dozens of men brandishing assault rifles. A few Apache helicopters floated menacingly nearby. Their machine guns began to spin up. All at once, all types of armaments were shot at them; bullets were frozen in mid-air, missiles fell from the sky, exploding harmlessly. However, it kept on coming; for every shot stopped, more replaced it. The ground began to become littered with bullets and unexploded grenades and shells. It was quite a sight, a few teens with arms outstretched and a grown man cowering behind an invisible barrier simply littered with deactivated projectiles and boundary lines in front. A few bullets got past and slammed into Mina’s shoulder. She fell to the ground. All the unexploded bombs in her sector went off. The tanks could be heard beginning to approach, and the sound of hundreds of thumping boots could be heard.
The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
"Oh, we're so screwed guys, nice to meet you; there's no way we're going to stop all those tanks, machine guns, and planes," Daniel cackled as he hurled a spear of fire into the melee, eliciting a few screams.
“We just need a distraction!” Chole yelled, “Someone needs to buy us some time to re-group. We can’t keep this up forever.”
“I got one,” Thomas gritted out as more bullets bounced off him harmlessly as he ran into the smoke towards the soldiers. A wall of rock rose up behind him.
“Come at me” He screamed as all fire was directed towards him. He smirked as he fashioned himself twin swords out of rock. “It's time to get medieval." He spun around slashing fluidly in wide slashing arches as blood and screams echoed across the plain. Everywhere he ran, spikes appeared from the ground, impaling men where they stood or simply holding their ankles as their throats were split by him. But as soon as the tide turned, the smoke dissipated and Thomas was getting shot from all sides, and his wall was getting destroyed by all the helicopter's missiles. His armor kept on reforming, but not fast enough. The chips began to show and bullets began to become lodged in his flesh. He wildly flung his arms and hands of rock knocked helicopters out of the sky. But as more simply appeared in their place, he finally fell to his knees as his rock wall crumped. The blood dribbled out of his mouth as he fell. The battlefield finally became silent. The fallen wall and debris created another smoke screen.
“Are those monsters finally dead?” A terrified soldier whispered, “A few others murmured in agreement.”
Chole went to Thomas and picked him up as he struggled in vain against the hold on him. “Good work, you definitely bought us time. It's my turn now. " She whispered into his ear, and silently she handed him to Mina and Dalton. Daniel began to start limping towards her for help. She pointed to a barely breathing Thomas. Daniel protested, but then nodded.
“Don’t worry guys, I've got this.” Chole said as the sky went black and the wind started to bellow, "This is revenge for all the months you have kept me captive." As a tornado whirled, scattering men and weapons in all directions, the remaining troops opened fire, but all the bullets stopped halfway falling to the ground as she directed another blast of lightning, silencing them forever. As a tank tried to escape, she extended a hand to it as it halted. She then sent another blast of lightning from out of her hands as the tank was blasted into the air, metal flying in all directions. She looked back at them, smiling as the clouds dissipated, leaving a bright sunny day in contrast to the carnage and destruction before them. The helicopters attempted to escape, but a wave of suppression enveloped them as they fell to the ground, exploding like fireworks.
“How's that for a show!” she exclaimed.
“That was amazing, weather manipulation,” Dalton replied slack-jawed.
"Could you please stop acting like a fanboy for a couple of minutes? I'd like to remind you guys that we need to get moving before another wave of troops comes after us; I'm pretty sure they have an airbase nearby." "Chole said seriously
“Yep, Mina, could you mindread one of the soldiers?”
“Sure, but they have to be living, and I am pretty sure that they are all dead.” Mina stated, matter of factly,
“Nah, there is a guy right there. He is stuck under that tank,” Daniel replied, pointing to a dying man crawling out from under a tank.
"OK, thanks," Mina said, walking over to the man and touching his temple; "yep, there is an airfield eight hundred meters away south east," she said, pointing just behind that hill.
“OK, let’s go!” Daniel yelled as he took off, running, everyone close behind him.
They ended up in an aircraft hangar.
"Wow, look at all these planes, look how many options we have, example, example, and example," Dalton exclaimed before a swarm of missiles descended from the sky, destroying the majority of the existing aircraft.
“Well, I guess that leaves us with the F-14 Tomcat,” Dalton concluded as they all ran to the aircraft.
“I didn’t know you could fly a plane, Dalton. Why didn’t you do it earlier?” Daniel asked as he heafted Thomas on his back.
“Well, your answer is what happened to the other pilot.” Dalton replied with a matter of flatly flicking switches as the plane took off, speeding down the runway as all the area near them was torn and exploded to bits by missiles and tracer rounds. He frantically tried dodging the other planes' bullets and he started to launch countermeasures, but there were too many planes. He tried to gain altitude as he engaged with hundreds of fighter jets, swarming around them like a hive of angry bees. He started firing tracer rounds and missiles at the other planes, but for every plane that went down, another appeared in its place. Then finally, the countermeasures failed, and the wings started to get shredded by bullets. As the plane started to spin out of control, a miracle happened. All the bullets suddenly stopped. The thrusters on the missiles stopped working, making them drop and detonate harmlessly on the ground. Then dozens of planes at a time started to randomly fall out of the sky, their pilots engaging their parachutes and looking around confused as to why their planes had just randomly run out of fuel.
"We did it, you idiots. Take that." Daniel yelled.
“I think you spoke too soon, Daniel,” Dalton said, pointing to the screen, "an AMRAAM is going towards us. One of the pilots must have let it off as a last-ditch attempt to take us down. I can’t outrun it, it goes at Mach 4, you need to take it out!”
“Yes, ok,” he gritted out, but they were too slow. The missile, to everyone's horror, slammed into the side wing of the plane, but as it detonated, everyone focused on suppressing it, even barely lucid Thomas, so that the explosion would be contained. But as they absorbed that much energy, they could slow down the explosion but not stop it.
“Are you almost about to land, Daniel gritted out I can’t hold on to it much longer”
“Yep, just a few more seconds,” Dalton replied, sweat pouring profusely off his temple as he guided the plane on an abandoned runway. Everyone ran out of the jet. Daniel practically dragged Thomas out and they ran for cover as the missile finally exploded, the shock wave sending them all flying into the nearby grassland. Then they were all lying on their backs laughing, just out of sheer fear, as they could have been exploded. Everyone looked in shock at Thomas, who had weakly laughed. The bullets began to be pushed out by an inner layer of rock. Grotesquely, hundreds of whole bullets and metal fragments began to be deposited as his skin was protected by another layer of stone.
Please do not do that again." “Yeah well if I didn’t have this countermeasure I would be dead”
Dalton simply stared in morbid interest as Daniel shook his head.
“All right guys we better get going before someone gets suspicious about a smoking hole in the ground,” Chole said laughing and with that, they got up and slowly trudged along to the sunset
