> Quote:Close to the exit when he delivered a powerful strike the whole cave started shaking. Paul ran out fast thinking it would collapse. As he got out the cave was still standing. Angry he used his whole aura on a single sword and pierced the wall near the exit. The whole cave collapsed making a loud noise and everyone around could only see dust for a few minutes.
> Satisfied they rested for a few minutes in the sunlight and then headed back to Rosan.
Vol.2 Chapter 5-First Dungeon
As they reached the city of Rosan Paul noticed that the soldiers were a bit scared. He didn’t know why they were scared so he stayed vigilant. As they headed to the guard house, everyone was watching them since most of them were wounded and covered in blood. When they reached the guard house a person came out. He only had thin clothes on and at first glance resembled the dead guard captain, who died a pity death in the goblin cave.
-“Where is my brother?”
Paul saw that no one spoke up and took a step forwards.
-“He was killed by the goblins”
-“What?! How can that be?”
-“He charged ahead and was surrounded by the goblins. We couldn’t help him.”
-“Tell me everything”
Paul started telling him the story, but left out some parts that would make him or the soldiers guilty in the eyes of the brother. After finishing the story the man looked at the soldiers then at Paul.
-“You finished the quest so you deserve your reward. The soldiers on the other hand are from this moment on banished from the guards and have one month to leave this city and never come back”
-“But they didn’t…”
-“Silence! Or do you want to be punished as well?”
-“I understand”
Paul was angry but held it in. He received the rewards for the quest but he was not that happy. As soon as the captains brother left he and the soldiers went to the inn. In there Paul bought everyone some food and asked them.
-“Do you wish to follow me and my orders?”
All the soldiers looked at Paul. Paul could see their doubtful looks and it was even easier to feel the burdensome atmosphere. Then one of them responded.
-“We were all orphans so the other soldiers were our family. We don’t have any homes to go to.”
-“Is that a yes or a no?”
-“We need to think about it”
-“Good. For those of you who decide to join me, I will wait for you at the city gates in two weeks. If there are others in similar situations tell them that the offer stands for them as well.”
The soldiers all nodded, and Paul left. He wanted to do something to punish the ones that rule the city. As he walked around he heard some of the guards talk about something called “The entrance”. He sneaked around and after a few hours of listening to different guard conversations he finally knew what “The entrance” was and where it was located.
“The entrance” was actually an entrance. It was the way in to the dungeon of the city. And the location was pretty easy to find. It was one of the most guarded places in the whole city. The entrance was somewhere in the guard house. Paul knew from the books he read that at the end of a dungeon there is the crystal that could make or destroy a city but didn't know any details.
He went to the inn and rented a room for the night. The next day he headed to the tailor to buy some armor for himself. He bought the cheapest one he could find. He just needed something to cover his thin clothes even if the armor didn’t provide any real protection. I was mostly decorative. Then he headed to
the library. As soon as he entered a young lady with black hair greeted him from behind her desk. She was pretty with beautiful long hair, brown eyes. The girl was biting her nails when she saw that Paul didn’t look her way. After paying a small fee he was granted entrance to the library.
Paul walked among the books and saw that most of them he already read before. He was searching for some information about the dungeons, cities and the connection between them. Paul expected to find very little information but he was wrong.
It seems that there is a rare crystal that has the ability to build a whole city. To build anything you need to feed the crystal, either other crystals or shards of it and guild points as sort of a catalyst. Using a crystal, theoretically, you could build a whole city in a day. Anyone can use a crystal as long as they use a drop of blood on it. Once this is done you have ownership of the crystal and you can modify the city in any way you wish. The crystal bonds with the lands and if the crystal is removed, it turns to shards so you need a new crystal to be able to build anything fast.
Crystals large enough to build a city are quite rare and most of the kingdoms only have about 10 cities with crystals. However, there are many shards. The cities keep them safe so in case of war they can use them to upgrade the city so that it can defend itself. A surprising fact was that the owner of the crystal can also teleport to the crystal location instantly so he doesn’t need to go through the dungeon to reach the crystal every time he wants to modify the city.
The dungeons are created for the sole purpose of protecting the crystal. And the only reason they don’t make a room with no entrances, is that you can teleport to the crystal but you can’t teleport back so you need an exit. Every ruler creates his own dungeon and teaches his next in line how to avoid the traps and anything else made to defend the crystal in case he dies.
That’s about all that was about the dungeons in the books. Since he didn’t want to avoid an opportunity he read all the books in the library. It didn’t take him long. He read all the books in an hour. The information that he got from the books wasn’t useful for the moment but he never knew what might be useful and what not.
He left the library satisfied and headed to the guild testing building. He waited in line for his turn. When it was finally his turn someone barged in front of him.
-“Excuse me. Please wait your turn”
-“I don’t need to wait. My father is a very powerful man in this city.”
Everybody looked down and didn’t say anything. Paul knew that it would be bad to mess with him so he decided to at least learn his name, and take revenge later.
-“And what is your name, if you don’t mind”
-“Someone in this city doesn’t know me? Very well. My name is Furti Marciolly Rotis the second”
-“I see. Well go ahead”
Paul let him use the crystal first and. The man didn’t even ask Paul’s name since he didn’t consider him any important.
After his test was finished he started swearing and kicking the tables and chairs.
‘It seems that he didn’t got the results he wished for.’
Paul stepped up and put his hand on the crystal. After the test was over he checked his stats.
NamePaul SilverTitleThe White SlayerGuild LevelCGuild Points6950Strength791Agility815Endurance628Stamina720Wisdom742Intelligence856Charisma325Leadership240Luck343Fighting Spirit821Fame1925
He reached rank C. It was no wonder since his stats increased by killing all the goblins and the goblin boss. Even though he could check his mana and health points he felt that they were also very high. Satisfied he headed to the market and walked around until midnight and then went to bed.
The next day he headed back to the testing facility and went back to try and improve his skills with the weapons. He expected to see the same cube as in the village but he was surprised to see 5 cubes and many people were standing in line at each one. He went around asking some information about this situation and it seems that each cube has a rank. Your can only use the cube that has your rank or lower.
In the lowest E rank cube you can only fight yourself.
If you come across this story on Amazon, it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.
In the D rank cube you can fight a certain type of monster.
In the C rank cube you can fight different types of humans.
In the B rank cube you can fight up to three of the same enemy.
In the A rank cube you can fight up to ten enemies and each can be different.
Paul didn’t hesitate and headed to the C rank one. He waited for a whole hour before his turn came up. As he touched the crystal he chose the short swords and then he saw that he could chose the type of his enemy. He chose a barbarian like man who had enormous strength.
As he entered the cube he picked up his weapons and a huge golem appeared in front of him. The huge golem started attacking him with his huge two handed sword. He was fast and strong. It was almost as strong as the goblin boss. After two hours he finally got out of the cube and left to the inn. He ordered some food and while waiting he started thinking of a way to reach the dungeon.
After eating he headed to the guard house. Using stealth he looked around and looked at all the soldiers that were inside, how they acted, where they went. He looked and remembered every pattern and information he could about the soldiers. Then he retreated back to the inn.
For the next week he went to train himself. He used the cube to train against golems that had similar characteristics to a soldier. However he didn’t use his weapon at all. All he did was avoid them as much as possible. Finally after one week he could avoid all the attacks for two hours. He was now ready to infiltrate the guard house and enter the dungeon.
Before heading to the guard house he went to the inn and rested so that he could be in top condition. The next day he went to the marked and bought something, that he read in the books. It was a combination of sleeping powder and smoke bomb. When thrown it releases a powder that when inhaled instantly knocks you out. Then he waited until the night fell and headed to the house of Furti Marciolly Rotis. It was easy to find. He sneaked inside and set small fires in different parts of the mansion. Then he hid himself close to the guard house. After a few minutes a man ran into the building and then followed by about 20 guards they left. ‘It seems that my distraction was successful’
He sneaked into the building and saw that there were still a few guards around. They were guarding the door that seemed to lead to the basement. There were 5 guards. He threw the sleep bomb and the guards instantly fell to the ground. Paul used a piece of cloth to cover his face and searched the guards for a key. He found two keys and opened the door with one of them. As he went down the stairs there saw another guard at a door. Paul using his sneaking skill he got close and then hit him behind the neck. The guard fell like a doll.
The other key was used to open this door. He entered and there was a circular room with a trap door in the middle. He approached the door and opened it. The door was made from wood but it was as heavy as one made from iron. He descended using the ladder.
After one minute he reached the bottom. There were some small crystals along the wall that gave of some light. He followed carefully the tunnel until he reached the end. At the end there was a room with two tunnels. He picked up a large rock and threw it in one of them. As soon as he threw the rock he could hear some mechanical sounds from the tunnel, some other noises.
He picked up another similar rock and threw it in the other one. This time he only heard the rock falling. He decided to head into the one with the traps since there must be something to protect, that’s why there are traps.
As he headed in he took out the longest sword he had and started hitting the ground with the tip just like a blind person. After a few seconds he already reached the first trap. A small tile entered slightly into the ground and arrows came out of the wall. If he had stepped on that rock he would have had a hard time avoiding them.
As he went forward into the dungeon he kept bumping into different types of traps. There were arrows, pitfalls, large blades , poison and the most difficult part of the dungeon was the maze. Many times he had to go back and go the other way since he ran into a dead end.
Finally after a few hours he reached something promising. An old wooden door. He opened the door without any problems and in front of him there was a room. In that room there wasn’t anything out of the ordinary except the small pool. He put everything that he didn’t need in the ring and entered the water. The water was a bit chilly but it wasn’t a problem. The problem was that he didn’t know how much he needed to keep his breath.
He emptied a few flasks he had on him and sealed them. Now he had some air reserves. He put them into the ring and then took a deep breath and dove into the water. As soon as he reached a certain distance underwater there were no more crystals and there was complete darkness. However Paul didn’t need light and using his night vision he continued forward. After a minute he reached two holes which were the size of a man. He didn’t know which one was correct so he decided to take a gamble. He headed right. After a minute he ran out of air and took out one of the flask. He opened the flask with his tongue since he didn’t want any of the air to escape. Now he could go on for a little longer.
As he headed deeper and deeper into the water minutes tunnels, passed like hours and he started to run out of air and air reserves. As he started to feel a bit of despair in his hearth he saw a small light ahead. Using all his strength he went as fast as possible towards the light. Upon reaching it he saw that it was some sort of a bioluminescent underwater plant. He then saw the end. It was finally the end and he headed upwards.
When he reached the surface he saw that there were many light crystals and it was like a small forest. You couldn’t even see the rocks on the side. It was full of plants. It seems that the light crystals have similar effects to the sun. He knew he was close to the end, but he also knew that there must be a final trap or something. He continued on ahead carefully.
As he continued forward he started getting more and more dizzy. He quickly figured out that it was some sort of poison and put a cloth to his face. It got better but he was still dizzy and his movements were slower. As he kept going he only got worse and then some vines started tangle around his legs. The vines were moving like they were alive trying to trap any living thing that passed by.
Paul took out his sword and with one hand he held the cloth to his face and with the other he cut the vines continuously. The vines weren’t strong but were still deadly if you slowed down since they would trap you and slowly kill you. As he got worse and worse he saw ahead some stairs. Using the last bit of his strength he ran ahead while swinging the word at the vines.
He fell a few times and almost got trapped by the vines but he finally reached the stairs. As he climbed the stairs the vines didn’t come at him any more. At the top of the stairs there was a white door with some writing on it. He didn’t care and was to dizzy to read what it said and tried to open the door as fast as he could. He pushed and no matter how much strength he put in the door didn’t budge and he only got worse.
As he got dizzy he started falling on his back and tried to grab anything to stop himself from falling; He grabbed the door and the door opened. He quickly got himself back up on feet and entered closing the door behind him. As he got into the room he fell down on his back exhausted and laughing thinking
‘Stupid door. Pull, don’t push...huh..hahahahaha’
His laugh suddenly stopped and he fainted.
