Chapter 6 - Water Solutions

> Please choose one of the perks—

>

> 1. Simulated Weather: The Dungeon can create and control weather patterns within its domain. This includes the ability to summon rain, snow, fog, thunderstorms, and more, tailored to the needs of the environment and its inhabitants. Simulated weather can enhance growth, provide protection, or create challenging conditions for intruders.

>

> 2. Rapid Growth: The Dungeon can accelerate the growth of plants and other organic creatures within its domain using mana. This perk allows for the quick development of forests, crops, and other vegetation, ensuring that the ecosystem remains lush and abundant. Rapid growth can also be used strategically to create barriers or resources in a short amount of time.

>

> 3. Harmonic Resonance: This perk allows the Dungeon to harmonize the energies within its domain, creating a balanced and synergistic environment. Harmonic Resonance also amplifies the power of spells and enchantments, making them more potent and stable.

I immediately discarded the second option as I had the plant growth spell and the spell crystal to spread its effect. I was thinking about taking the first option but I asked Lily for her thoughts as I might have missed something.

"The first one is just good if it lets you make Patterns of weather and maintain them. Next one you should still think about as it helps grow both plants and animals. Last one, you don't need this early as you don't have contradictory elements yet. So in my opinion get the second one as you can do the weather thing without the perk. But you don't know when you might get the spell for animal growth." I had overlooked the animal growth part of the second perk, but now that I think about it I still don't think I need that one, as my floor is pretty big and Adventurers can't kill all of them, if needed I could just summon more. I tell my reasoning to Lily and she concedes at that. I pick the first perk.

I didn't feel anything had changed in my Dungeon. I ask Lily why is that and she laughs and says, "You don't even have a water pattern so how would it change the weather?" She then sounds puzzled, "Right we need to get you water. Now how do we do that?"

I think of the strange stone and how it can change properties, it might also change temperature. I spawned a small chunk of the stone and saw that it took 10 mana for it. I guess the strange stone was pretty expensive. I then tried to make it colder, at first it was not working but then I sent a bit of cool feeling mana to the stone and tried again. This time it worked and small droplets of water started to gather on the surface. To make it go faster I put some more mana into the rock. Then I saw that the water started to freeze up and turn into ice. I then waited for it to gather and saw that Lily had suddenly portalled to the stone getting covered in ice.

"I guess temperature is also a property of an object, but it looks like it is reserving some of your mana regen to maintain the effect." I looked at my status and saw that it only reserved 0.05% mana. We then waited around until there was a sizable chunk of ice for me to absorb. I looked at my notification and saw that I only got the pattern for ice. I was thinking of lowering the cooling of the stone to make water I had an idea. Instead of just lowering the cooling I made it heat up.

Immediately the pieces of ice still on it started to melt. A puddle formed underneath the rock. I absorbed a bit of the water and waited for the rest of the steam. But as I was waiting the grass beneath the puddle parted away and the water got soaked into the soil. I was surprised at that, If I still had a jaw it might have been on the floor. Then the grass started to return to the vacated place and bury the hot pebble. But as the grass tried to drag the pebble under its leaves and roots that were touching the stone started to smoke the grass let it go.

"Hahaha!" Lily started to laugh. "It seems that the starting grass species you got was a communal consciousness type. So as the Mutation was applied to a lot of it the whole grass network became Animated and sentiment. Just identify it, the system even gave it a monster stat sheet." I tried to identify the grass and saw a screen float up.

> Tyegrass — 1

I didn't see anything other than that so I asked Lily how to look at its status. "Sorry, you need to try and get more information through the identify skill. And we can only look up the stat sheet for the creatures of your Dungeon not of the creatures outside of it, like say a rat got into the Dungeon you won't be able to look into its status." I tried to pull the plant's status and found it pretty easy.

It didn't seem too impressive. I opened up its Skill and Traits menu to see what it had.

> Traits—

> Dungeon Borne

> Photosynthesis

>

> Animated

>

> Hivemind

All of its skills were of low level but it had four traits. I opened up their descriptions to see what they were.

> Dungeon Borne: As long as the Dungeon supplies you with mana, your physical needs for water, nutrients, air, sleep, etc are negated. However, you will still experience the sensations of thirst, hunger, fatigue, etc.

>

> Photosynthesis: Your body harnesses the power of sunlight, water, air and nutrients to generate energy, which not only sustains you but also regenerates your health and mana.

>

> Animated: Grants minor sentience and cognitive abilities and you can move and perform basic actions using mana as an energy source.

>

> Hivemind: Forms a unified consciousness among multiple entities, enabling shared sensory information, coordinated actions, and collective decision-making. Integrates thought streams to facilitate complex cognition. All creatures within the collective function as a cohesive entity.

The first one was quite good. But I was a bit bummed about the second one as I didn't have any sun to give sunlight. The animated trait was also fantastic! It let the grass move way more than I thought it would. Though I don't fully understand the last one. I asked Lily but she said she also didn't know about it. I shrugged and returned to the water problem. I summoned some more water on the rock but the water just dropped into the soil.

I sculpted the strange stone into a bowl-like shape and put the water in that and the water stayed in the bowl. After some time the water started boiling and turning into steam. In just a few seconds the water dried out but I could absorb enough to get the pattern.

As I got the pattern I got a slight feeling that I should summon a bunch of it high up. I did that to see what would happen. The steam immediately started to clump together into fluffy thin clouds. After seeing that I stopped summoning more as it won't solve the water problem.

I started to rack my brain for a way to handle the waterways when I suddenly got an inspiration. I went underground about 10 meters below and started to carve channels by compressing the soil. I got into a certain rhythm as I carved the channels. After some unknown amount of time, I got out of the stupor and saw all of the channels fully carved in a branching almost natural way with small hollows at some merging or branching point. I went to the middle of the layout and found a big reservoir there.

Now I had the problem of filling it out. I then had an idea. I summoned some strange stone and sculpted it into the shape of a vase. Then I stuck the vase in the ceiling upside down. Then I covered the vase in mana and tried applying the everfill Enchantment so that it filled with water. The Enchantment took hold. A steady torrent of water started to flow out of it and fall into the reservoir. I immediately saw an problem, the water was not getting absorbed into the packed soil as easily. But after looking at it for some time I found that the water seeping out slowly was a good thing as it let the tunnels fill up with water and distribute it more thoroughly.
