06: Awakening

06: Awakening

POV: MC

I run my hand over the smooth stone putting a conflicted expression on the adventurers face.

“Rose is this the second entity you were talking about?”

“Like I said, it’s a lot different from the others. Its lifesource is like that of a newborn.”

Putting two and two together, I deduced what the stone was. Could this be a-

“Daddy can we ask it now?”

“Ask what?”

Answering my question, the dragon burst through the trees on our right. Without a second of delay, it dashed towards the young adventurer, jaws open, ready to attack. The adventurer froze. The 5 prior painstakingly long years of harsh training he did for his body, did nothing to prepare him for the frightening sight of a fully grown dragon running full speed towards him.

Seeing an opportunity, in one quick motion I grab a hold of the stone, ripping it out of the adventurers hands.

God I hope I'm not wrong about this…

The adventurer snaps out of it. "What in god's name are you doing!?"

Completely ignoring the adventurer that was still incapable of standing, I once again offer the stone to the dragon.

“This is your child isn’t it?”

Making it just in time, the dragon pauses, jaws mere centimetres off the knights vulnerable head. The dragon tilts its head slightly to the right, as if befuddled about my actions. I place the egg on the grassy ground and take steps backwards, pulling both the adventurer and Rose with me.

Maybe it's because of the sudden change in events that had transpired, but with this, the adventurer finally fully snaps out of it. He quickly runs towards the egg, shielding it with his body. This prompts a roar to ring throughout the air, causing the adventurer to shudder uncontrollably.

“You won’t take the prince! I promised the captain that I would protect this with my life!”

What’s this talk about a prince… This is obviously an egg you kidnapped from the dragon...

“Hey stop that. You’re seriously gonna get yourself killed.”

The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

Tensions ran high as the dragon once again got into a position ready to attack the open adventurer.

“Hey! Do you want to become my pet?”

With the worst possible timing, Rose had somehow made her way towards the dragon and started to pat it.

“I promise that I will treat you well! I’ll feed you everyday, I’ll walk you and I’ll play with you!”

The dragon perplexed by the sudden development and how a child had snuck up to her, jumped back 10 metres with a thundering leap, its enormous wings displacing huge amounts of air as it flapped back and forth propelling it away from Rose. Using this opening, I sprint towards the adventurer and try to pry him off the egg. Surprisingly he has an iron grip, and I’m unable to make him budge a centimetre.

“Rose can you help-” I stop my sentence after realizing that Rose is too concentrated on trying to convince the dragon to become a pet, that she’s completely tuned out from everything else. The comical scene of a young girl chasing around a dragon could be seen.

An audible sigh escapes my mouth as I give up on trying. While contemplating on how to get the adventurer off the egg, a rustling was heard behind us. I quickly turn around to see the leader of the group stumbling out of the thick forestry. The adventurer’s face lit up with joy.

“Captain! I knew you would make it in time! I kept the prince safe, just as you instructed!”

The captain however, did not reply, instead just standing motionless, with a blank expression on his face.

“Captain?”

The captain once again did not answer, this time crumpling onto the ground like a marionette with it’s strings cut.

POV: ???

A deep black engulfs my soul. I can’t see or feel anything, it’s like my senses were all cut off. Nothing happens, but it’s not boring. I can’t do anything, I just exist. It’s tranquil but it’s incredibly lonely. With nothing except myself, this void of life keeps me wanting company. The sense of time doesn't exist here, I don’t know how long I’ve been here for, it could’ve been a split second, or an eternity.

A bright ray of light shines down towards me. A pleasant warmth engulfing me. Warm like a mother’s embrace, it was like nothing I’ve ever felt before. I can feel as my soul grows stronger and stronger and as the light empowers me, information fills my mind. Information about the world and how it functions and about who created me.

I awaken in what looks to be a throne room. Looking left and right, I see that I’m accompanied by two other individuals, one which is an undead and one which looks to be a demon. They’re both already up and about, and I recognised them to be my honorable brothers.

The undead looks to be of the skeleton variety as everything from his facial features to his arms and legs, are a pristine white bone. He is donned in a long sorcerer robe that slide across the floor, which pulses black and purple as skulls surface on the surface, as if souls were trapped in the very fabric of his clothing. A distinct aura of death could be felt around. I recognized him as my youngest brother.

The demon however, looked like a male supermodel. Being more on the thin side, he looked more like the cool type, and he wore a tuxedo that perfectly complemented his body. He looked completely like a human, besides from his long sharp ears, his boney tail that protruded from his behind, and his full black eyes that were concealed under a pair of sunglasses. I recognized him as my eldest brother.

“Ahh, so you’re awake. Good morning. As you’ve probably already realized, we have some unwanted guests. We were just about to leave and take care of them, you’re welcome to come join us.”

Eldest brother spoke in a deep voice in a cool charismatic manner that made you want to do as he said.

“Eldest brother, I shall take you up on that offer.” As eldest brother had alluded to previously, I too felt the presence of the intruders.

Despite having only just met for the first time, it was like we had known each other for years. It felt very comfortable to converse with my siblings, and there was no awkward tension in the atmosphere.

“Well then, let’s go.”

Eldest brother nodded his head to youngest brother, in a signal to start moving out. A magic circle formed under our feet, as a high tier teleportation spell was cast by youngest brother. As the spell activated, our visions blurred, as our bodies were transported towards the intruders on the floor above us.
