Chapter 3: Birthday

Chapter 3: Birthday

June 23, 1991

A boy who looks particularly pleasing to the eyes wakes up to the sound of the morning alarm. Yawning, he gets up and stops the alarm. He drinks the glass of water kept right next to the alarm and makes his bed. Immediately after, he opens the curtains to welcome the warm rays of the rising sun. He takes a deep breath of the fresh morning air. After a while, he takes a quick trip to the bathroom and changes into his workout clothes.

Taking a quick look at his watch, he notes the time to be 6:30 am. He turned on the cassette player in his room as he put a cassette labeled "Beat it- Michael Jackson".

🎶They told him, "Don't you ever come around here"

"Don't wanna see your face, you better disappear"

The fire's in their eyes and their words are really clear

So beat it, just beat it...🎶

Singing along to the song, he starts exercising. Due to the not so light yet not so heavy exercise, his recently turned 11-year-old body is as big and tall as an average 13-year-old. He begins with stretching his body as a warm-up. Doing pushups, pull-ups, sit-ups, and ending it with seat and reaches, he wipes the sweat off his forehead as he goes to the bathroom.

After a quick shower, he comes back fresh and changed into clean clothes. He looks at the watch and notices it's already 8:00 am. He goes downstairs to find his mother cooking breakfast.

"Good morning mom." "Good morning, Diddykins~. Also, Happy Birthday. Come have breakfast, you must be tired from the exercise. I have made your favorite, scrambled eggs on toast with grilled tomatoes just like you love," mom greets me back as she offers me breakfast. Just as she said that Harry enters the room with messy hair and clothes. He seems to have woken up just now.

"Good morning, Harry." "Good morning, Dale, and Happy Birthday. Good morning, Aunt Petunia," replies Harry.

"Thanks, I...," I reply as mother interrupts me, "Good morning. Go wash up in Diddykin's bathroom. You two can talk later." Both I and Harry look at each other shocked as we fail to comprehend what just happened. "No need to look at me that way. It's just a simple greeting and it's not like I didn't know that you(Harry) cleaned up at his bathroom daily. For today, wash up in his bathroom. I will discuss with Diddykin's father to clear up a room for Harry."

Once again, we look at each other shocked but equally as happy. Because, for whatever reason, mom had finally accepted Harry. Not completely accepted but it seems like she has finally taken a step forward.

Back downstairs,

I eat my delicious breakfast, happy and overjoyed at what just happened. I am glad that my efforts were not in vain. If mom has finally accepted Harry then, maybe dad will too. Although he hates to admit it, dad was more submissive to mom than he would like others to believe. But I am also curious about the reason why mom had accepted Harry. And why now? A glaring question mark hung inside my mind.

As I was busy with my interior monologue, the doorbell suddenly rang bursting my thought bubble. I wonder who it is, so early in the morning. I go to the door and open it to see a strangely dressed middle-aged old woman. She looked stoic and strict despite the smile on her face. My head suddenly hurt as a name surfaced in my mind 'Professor McGonagall'.

I don't know whose name it is but I have a very strong suspicion. Apparently, I spaced out for too long as she speaks, "Hello, Mr. Dudley, I think. Would you be so kind as to call your parents? I have some matters to discuss with them. Ah, there she is. Mrs. Dursely, it's a pleasure to see you again."

Strange, I find it strange that this woman knows my name and my mom. I find it even stranger that mom didn't deny the claims as she greets her back, "Indeed professor...." "Minerva McGonagall" "Prof. McGonagall, it's been a long time. Please, do come in."

~My suspicion was right. But how did I know her name?~

As they sit down to talk, I notice her looking around searching for someone. "Where's Harry? How is he? Is he well?" she asks. "He's fine. He's in the bathroom having a shower," mom replies. I look towards my mom with hidden sadness because I finally know the reason behind her earlier actions.

"Oh, never mind then." She sounded strangely disappointed. "Let's talk about young Dudley here." "Dale, you can call me Dale," I say as she looks at me.

"Very well, Mr. Dale. You will be happy to know that you are a wizard," she says.

"A wizard???" I look at her confused, shocked, somewhat expectant but most importantly, I look at her as if she is crazy. But what surprised me was her reaction when she saw mine. She looked at my mother in a shocked yet questioning expression.

"I haven't told them yet," my mom replies in response to her reaction.

~Told what.~ "Told what??? Don't tell me this crazy lady is right. No offense." The professor's body stiffens as she hears me call her crazy.

"Yes, she's right. My sister, Harry's mother was a witch. I wasn't one but it looks like you are. Harry is one as well," she says in a slightly uncomfortable tone. "Why didn't you tell us earlier? And how do you know I and Harry are wizards?" I ask back ignoring her uncomfortable way of speaking.

"Do you remember the time the glass shattered? You were angry at us for treating..." She stops midway as she realizes what she was about to do. Even though she stopped speaking, I already knew what she was talking about. I and Harry, both of us have had something strange happen when we get angry. Harry had them ever since I can remember. But I have had them happen only after I inherited the new memories. I thought that it was just a strange common thing between us two. I had some doubts about it, but I could never have guessed that we were wizards.

However, that still didn't answer the first question. I was going to ask the same question again when the professor spoke.

"You're a wizard, Mr. Dale."
