The sound of engines and sirens fills the air as black vans arrive one after another. They are here to recover all of the dead bodies from the Lucid Subjugation, a bloody battle against a monstrous creature that invaded the earth from a dream. Some of the survivors are getting treated by the medical teams on the spot, while others are taken to a specialized hospital for further care. Ryu and Luna, two of the surfers who participated in the subjugation, are sent to the association headquarters and receive special treatment.
Meanwhile, a meeting is being held by the top brass of the association, a secret organization that deals with the Lucid Creatures and their dreams. The meeting room is spacious and elegant, with a large oval table in the center and a wall-mounted screen on one side. The screen shows the live footage of the aftermath of the subjugation, as well as the statistics and reports of the casualties and damages.
"I heard that there were a lot of casualties on the KRAG's side." President Jun-Ho calmly says while slowly facing the other members in the meeting. KRAG stands for 'Korea's Raider Assault Group' that mostly consists of trained soldiers and few surfers. A group being manage by the Korean government, it keeps in check with the Association's every move.
"Yes, there are six reported dead personnel within the dispatch group they've sent. Fortunately, the three surfers that we've sent don't have major injuries and are said to recover within a few days." Secretary Cha says, reading the paper in her hand.
"That's why I'm always against sending normal people in this type of job! Those political shits don't even feel remorse in sending those soldiers to their deaths." Mr. Woo-Jin shouts angrily, slamming his fist on the table.
"Now, now, calm down Woo-Jin. Back in my day, even normal people could go against Lucid Creatures that managed to break out and still survive. There's no need for discrimination." Old man Dal-Min says in a soothing voice. Mr. Woo-Jin immediately apologizes for his inappropriate behavior.
But let's set aside that for a minute, I heard that Ryu dealt the last blow to the monster. Have you figured out what actually happened?" President Jun-Ho asks Mr. Woo-Jin, hoping to get at least a little information about the incident.
"Well, aside from that shocking last blow, his performance during the subjugation was good for a rookie. His battle sense and when to follow up attacks are something worthy to take note of. But of course, he lacks experience and stumbled in the middle of the fight." Mr. Woo-Jin says with a proud tone.
"Yeah? I'll think about a suitable reward for him later. I'm also curious about the Wolf, from what you've described it's a creature that has some intelligence. I estimate it to be a Class-S creature at least, is our measuring device malfunctioning?" President Jun-Ho asks, wondering how a creature like that is only valued as Class-A.
"No, President. Our device is definitely working. Before it could come to Earth, it should have been in a dream but there's no reports about it. In my opinion, this creature skipped the dream procedure and directly jumped into Earth. Thus, its strength is significantly decreased." Secretary Cha proposes a theory and piques everyone's attention.
"No! That's impossible! Have there even been such instances in history?" Dal-Min exclaims.
"It might sound impossible, Father, but thinking about all the details regarding this incident it all lines up. You know very well how we prioritize clearing Class-B dreams and above. If there was really a Class-A dream we would have known about it." President Jun-Ho says, trying to calm down his father.
"Hypothetically speaking, if it's really true, we need to closely monitor this and let other organizations know about it. We also need to deploy high ranking surfers on standby but the problem comes after that. We don't have enough people who can do raids." Mr. Woo-Jin interjects, massaging his temple.
"Ah! You don't need to worry about that. We managed to find new recruits who are at least on par with Ryu's talent." Secretary Cha says. Mr. Woo-Jin chuckles excitedly.
"Ah! You don't need to worry about that. We managed to find new recruits who are at least on par with Ryu's talent." Secretary Cha says, smiling confidently.
"Right, and he also should be right here by now-" Old man Dal-Min is interrupted when a young man barges into the meeting room.
The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
"WHERE'S LUNA?!" a young man who looks like in his teens shouts as he bursts into the meeting room. He has a kind and handsome face that resembles a celebrity, with white dazzling hair that falls over his forehead, and his eyes are shining blue that matches his pale skin. He wears a black leather jacket and jeans. He looks worried and is still catching his breath from running all the way here.
"Speaking of the devil, " the old man says with a smirk on his face. He recognizes the young man as Lucian, Luna's twin brother. President Jun-Ho immediately stands up and holds the young man by his shoulder.
"It's alright, Lucian. She's ok. She doesn't have major injuries, she should wake up soon." President Jun-Ho reassures the young man in a gentle voice.
"Phew. If you say so, Father. But I won't let this slide. I know my sister well and she's not someone who would be injured fighting a Class-A creature." Lucian says and sits down in the vacant chair. He is a talented surfer, just like his sister, and he has a strong bond with her. He was told about the whole incident and about Secretary Cha's theory. In which he says, "It really sounds far-fetched but it sounds possible. Actually, there's a similar case in Russia where a Snow Ape mysteriously broke out without being in a dream. We must research this phenomenon with Sister Cha's theory in mind."
He then stands up, bows to everyone and says, "I would like to excuse myself. I need to check on Luna's condition." After everyone agrees he leaves the room and rushes to where Luna is being treated. He is eager to see her and make sure she is alright.
Lucian runs through the corridors of the association headquarters, looking for the room where Luna is resting. He is anxious to see her and make sure she is alright. He finally finds the room number and opens the door.
He sees Luna lying on a bed, wrapped up in bandages. She looks pale and weak, but still beautiful. He walks over to her and holds her hand gently.
"Luna, can you hear me? It's me, Lucian. Your brother. I'm here for you. Please wake up soon." He whispers softly, hoping she can sense his presence.
He hears a groan from the other side of the room. He turns his head and sees another bed, where a young man is lying. He doesn't recognize him, but he assumes he is a surfer who fought with Luna in the subjugation. He looks healthy and energetic , as if nothing happened.
Ryu opens his eyes and sees Lucian holding Luna's hand. He feels a surge of shock and fear. He doesn't know who he is, but he guesses he is Luna's boyfriend. He wonders what he will do to him.
"Hey, who are you?" Lucian says, breaking the silence. He lets go of Luna's hand and walks towards Ryu. He looks at him with a curious and serious expression.
"I'm Ryu. I'm a surfer. I was with Luna in the subjugation. I don't know why they put me here. I'm sorry, if I interrupted you too." Ryu says, lowering his head. He feels ashamed and unworthy of being near Luna.
Lucian studies Ryu for a moment. He can tell he is sincere and remorseful. He also remembers what Mr. Woo-Jin said about his performance and his last blow to the monster. He decides to give him a chance.
"I see. I'm Lucian. I'm Luna's twin brother. I'm also a surfer. I'm here to check on Luna. She's my sister. I love her." He says, introducing himself and shakes hands with Ryu.
"Nice to meet you, Lucian. I'm sorry about Luna. She's amazing. She saved my life. I hope she recovers soon." Ryu says, feeling a mix of gratitude and admiration for Luna.
"Me too. She's a fighter. She'll pull through." Lucian says, smiling slightly.
They release their hands and sit on their respective beds. They feel a slight tension in the air, but also a sense of understanding. They are both surfers who care about Luna.
Ryu looks at his own body and feels a pang of confusion. He doesn't understand how he can be so fine after such a brutal fight. He remembers how he was injured and exhausted, how he barely managed to deliver the final blow to the monster, how he collapsed and lost consciousness.
Ryu gives up as he only ends up guessing. He decides that it's a good time to learn more about the Lucid Dreams.
"Hey, Lucian. Can I ask you something?" He says, trying to sound casual.
"Sure, what is it?" Lucian says, sensing Ryu's discomfort.
"What's the deal with the dreams? How do they work? How do you fight the Lucid Creatures?" He says, bombarding Lucian with questions.
Lucian smiles and chuckles. He sees that Ryu is curious and eager to learn. He remembers how he felt when he first discovered the dreams and the Lucid Creatures. He decides to teach him the basics.
"Well, the dreams are like another dimension, where the Lucid Creatures live. They are manifestations of human subconsciousness, fears, desires, and fantasies. They are usually harmless, but sometimes they become aggressive and try to break out into the real world. That's when we, the surfers, have to stop them." He says, explaining the concept of the dreams.
"How do you fight the Lucid Creatures?" Ryu asks, intrigued.
"We use our own abilities, which are based on our dreams and our willpower. Each surfer has a different ability, which can be offensive, defensive, or supportive. For example, my ability is to manipulate light. I can create beams, shields, or illusions with light. Luna doesn't have abilities yet but she can strengthen her physical body and she has a unique technique that only belongs to her. " He says, demonstrating his ability by creating a small ball of light in his hand.
"Technique? I didn't see Luna using strange technique even once, even earlier in the subjugation. " Ryu says amused with Lucian's light ball but also wondering about Luna's technique.
"That is because surfers can't really use their abilities and techniques outside of dreams." Lucian explains as he juggles three light ball at the same time.
"Then how can you and Mr. Woo-Jin could-" Ryu stops mid-through his question when Lucian intejects and says, "It's because once you reach a certain level, only then you could use your ability outside of the dreams. Same goes with Luna, she can't use her Moon Sword yet in the real world. And even if you could, there's a slight difference in term of power when you use your ability in the dream and the real world. "
"I see. That's incredible. Thank you for telling me all this, Lucian. You're a great teacher." Ryu says, feeling grateful and impressed.
"You're welcome, Ryu. You're a fast learner. I'm sure you'll become a great surfer someday." Lucian says, feeling proud and friendly.
They smile at each other and feel a bond forming between them. They are both surfers who share a passion for the dreams and a concern for Luna.
Lucian suddenly remembers something and checks his phone. He opens the Dream app and looks for Luna's name. He sees that she joined a huge scale dream raid, where she is fighting a horde of goblins.
He feels a surge of shock and worry. He wonders why she is in a dream raid, when she is supposed to be resting. He wonders what she is doing, when she is injured.
He decides to tell Ryu what he found out.
"Hey, Ryu. You won't believe this. Luna is in a dream raid right now. She's fighting goblins." He says, showing Ryu his phone.
Ryu feels a surge of shock and worry as well. He wonders the same things as Lucian. He wonders if Luna is okay, if she needs help.
Ryu asks Lucian about what they should do. Lucian immediately lay in bed besides Luna and says, "I'm joining her. You should rest more, there's no need for you to follow. Even if it's a million goblins, I'd win." Lucian winks at Ryu and immediately goes to sleep.
