7. Jordan (Part 1)

“Hey, won’t you please wake up?” A voice echoed through the darkness.

“Huh? Melody, is that you?” The voice questioned.

Melody looked over at the figure in bed with the bedsheets covering their face. They opened their eyes and stared at her.

“Oh, good, you’re awake.” She walked over and opened the curtains to let the sunlight shine and pierce through, hitting the bed.

“What the—?”

“Glad you didn’t die on me. Good to know you’re not ignoring me either.” Melody turned to face the person inside the bed. “So, how are you feeling, sleepyhead?”

“Was I... asleep?”

“Yeah, did you have a nightmare?”

“I guess I did then. Weird...” They scratched the back of their head. “So, what now?”

“Well, it’s a brand-new day, so why not explore more? What do you say, Jordan?”

Jordan peeked out of bed and nodded. “What day is it?”

“Don’t worry about it, they’ve forgotten about it already.”

If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it.

“Oh, good.” Jordan sighed, but took a double-take. “No wait, I’m not sure if I remember—”

“No need,” Melody interrupted. “All you got to know is that we should try to make a different approach.”

.-.-.-.

It was early outside, as the sun rose, changing the skies to light blue, with the white clouds hovering in the air as it mystified the duo. Melody figured that they could have an early start as soon as possible with their new goal in mind. Surely, they can succeed this time around.

The two finally reached the outskirts of the center of Bleakburn in the crisp autumn season. The air was humid, with a few people walking about at this time of day. Most of them wore warm clothes and carried phones in their bags.

Melody smirked as she took out her planner and checked off some things on her list. Jordan leaned over to inspect, but Melody clapped her planner shut and put it away in a huff. She suggested that they both split up and get information on everything and start from scratch.

Jordan didn’t know if the idea would work, but he couldn’t think of anything else, and wouldn’t dare to talk back to her. As the two went their separate ways, for now, Jordan headed off to a familiar place to try and refresh his memory, starting with The Midnight Delight.

As it just opened, Jordan noticed no line available as he walked over to pick up a menu and look it over. He sat down on the table, tapping the table furiously, as he can’t seem to remember anything that happened prior.

What did I miss the last time? Jordan thought. And why won’t Melody tell me? There had to be something he could do differently, right?

As a waiter walked over to give Jordan his meal, Jordan looked over at the corner of his eyes as a familiar person walked by. He stared through the window displays until they left his sight.

“Uh, I’ll be right back.” Jordan turned and told him. He got up from his seat and dashed off to chase after the other person, leaving the waiter to stand there, tilting their head in confusion.
