The two arrived in their room; it seemed to be the same as before, like nothing happened. Melody looked around, wondering if the portal did what they asked them to do. She took the calendar and phone to check the date. According to them, they seemed to have gotten back in time by an entire day, and time wasn't the same as before.
Melody realized that she had to hurry back to the supermarket before it's too late. She told Jordan to stay out of sight for the time being and watch from afar to learn how to win over Hilary.
"So, why are you leaving again?" Jordan inquired.
"Man, you ask a lot of questions," Melody replied.
"Well, I got to make sure I do this right. But, what if I get caught by Hilary?"
"Simple, either pretend to be Stanley and make her hate him or become his twin or relative and try to win the girl over yourself."
Jordan pondered about this. "That doesn't sound like a bad idea. Then I shall do my part."
"I'm sure you won't disappoint me."
He bowed as Melody hurried out the door.
.-.-.-.
At work, Melody did her shifts while shifting her glances at Stanley and Hilary. Her heart pounded as the anticipation gnawed at her. Not to mention, the boss had yet to make any announcements either.
"Hey, how's it going?" Hilary asked.
"Not so good," Stanley replied.
"What's the matter?"
"I had a hard time sleeping because of some nightmare."
"Huh, now that you mention it, I think I also had—"
"Hey, guys!" Melody got in the way between them and greeted the two of them.
"Oh, hey," Stanley greeted back with uncertainty. "Were you eavesdropping on us?"
"No way." Melody waved it off in denial. "Should I have?"
"Did you have any strange dreams the other night?" Hilary questioned.
"Not really." Melody shrugged. "So, what are you planning on doing during a break or after work? You guys have off tomorrow, right?"
If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
"I'm not sure yet," Stanley replied. "I'll be sure to ask the boss about it, though."
"Sounds good. What about you, Hilary?"
Hilary stared off into the distance. She shook her head and blinked. "Sorry, I thought I saw someone over there that looked like Stanley."
Jordan, what did I tell you? "You must be imagining things." Melody tried to deny such possibilities. "Is that nightmare giving you hallucinations or something?"
"Maybe? I don't know." Hilary scratched the back of her head. "I think I should go to the bathroom." She turned and walked off, leaving Melody and Stanley behind.
After a time passed, break time nearly ended. Stanley wondered when Hilary would exit the bathroom and feared she'd miss her work shift once it started again.
"What did she see in that dream that's making her...?" Stanley asked himself.
"Well, who knows?" Melody shrugged. "Hope she's doing fine, though."
"You seem to be acting differently than before, Melody." Stanley pointed out.
"I have? Is that a bad thing?"
"No, not at all," Stanley raised his hands in defense. "It's just that; it's weird and off-putting... No offense."
"All taken, jerk," Melody muttered bitterly.
"I'm sorry."
"I am too."
"You are? What for?"
"For treating you like garbage in the past." Melody hung her head, staring at the ground.
"Don't worry about it; it's ok."
"Hey, I was wondering." She twiddled her fingers. "Do you think it's possible, for a guy like you, and someone like me, to be in a stable relationship?"
"I... I don't know, I've never been in one before." Stanley paused. "Are you confessing your feelings to me?"
"...Maybe." Melody pouted and muttered.
"Yeah, I figured as much." Stanley sheepishly laughed, until his face registered what she said. "Wait, are you serious?"
"How dense can you be?" Melody thundered.
"But I had no idea."
"Guess you're not as dumb as I thought." After another pause. "So... what's your answer?"
It didn't take long for Stanley to make a response. "Sorry, but the answer is no."
Melody's eyes widened upon hearing that. "W-What? Why?"
"Well, I don't mean to sound rude, but you're not my type. Also, we barely had any connection or chemistry in the time we’ve spent together. And not to mention, I already have feelings for Hilary, and plan on confessing to her after work." Stanley replied sternly; Melody stayed silent. Stanley noticed and reached over to touch her shoulder. "Melody, are you ok?"
"I'm fine, just leave me be." Melody stepped back and stormed off, trying to hide the tears in her eyes.
"Hey, I'm back," Hilary announced as she left the bathroom and slowly approached the two. Melody pushed her aside without noticing and walked past her. "Melody, what's wrong? Where are you going?"
"I'm going out for a walk."
"But does the boss know? Did you ask him permission? If he finds out that—"
"I don't care, not anymore." Melody reached the doors and was about to walk out of the store.
"Did something happen while I was away?"
"I told you already; I'm not in love, so just confess already!" Melody roared before storming out, leaving Hilary standing there, frozen in place.
