It Starts

The workday finally comes to an end, I clean up my desk, and head home. I was in a pretty good mood, thinking of lounging at home for the rest of the evening, then, I remembered my promise to Murphy. I checked my watch for the time. 5:47. What time did he say again? I think it was 7:00... I still had some time before I had to go. I entered the apartment complex I live in. The place was dingy and poor lit, like always. I rode up the rickety elevator to my floor, floor 6. I listen to the usual noises of the elevator.

Clang clang, creeeeeak!

There's a bing as I reach my floor. I step out of the elevator and go to apartment 603, my room. I change out of my work clothes into something more comfortable, some sweatpants and a sweatshirt. A soft whirring noise starts as I make some instant ramen for supper. I check the clock on the wall, 6:20. I had around 30 minutes before I should head out to the movies. I finish eating my ramen before slipping on a jacket, and walking to the theater.

I ride the elevator back down to the ground floor, starting my walk to the movie theater. The cold starts to seep through my thin jacket, I begin to wish I'd brought my coat instead. As I walk, I notice something peculiar on the sidewalk. It appears to be a small coin, not American money, nor any currency I'd seen before. I pick it up and put it in my pocket, I don't know why, I just felt I should.

Eventually, I make it to the theater and find Murphy standing there.

I give a slight nod and say, "Hello there."

Murphy responds cheerfully saying, "I know you're not too excited for this, but give it a chance, you could enjoy it!"

Murphy walks inside of the building, and I follow suit. He pays for the tickets while I buy for the pop and popcorn. I grumble and moan about the high price for it, but I pay for the two medium pops and popcorns. We both go into the theater, ready for the movie now.

"The first two were great, this one will be even better I heard!" Murphy says, clearly excited for the movie and because I agreed to come too.

The movie starts, and Murphy stops talking. From time to time I glance over at Murphy to see him absorbed in the movie. I feel a rumbling through the theater, and get confused because there wasn't any rumbling audio from the movie. I settle back and decide it was probably nothing.

But then, a massive creature bursts through the screen of the movie! Screams ring out through the theater, and I jump up from my seat. It was an Inertian!
