Beginnings

For every door closed, a new door opens.

My story begins with me walking towards a large office building. I think of all the chances I had in life to actually pursue something I liked, instead, I ended up here, Rubikz Electronics, the dreariest company you can imagine. Gray outside, gray interior, poor lighting, 20 stories high, I couldn't imagine anything more dry and life sucking. I could've followed my dream and be working for NASA, but I jacked around too much and ended up here. I let out a sigh.

I notice a small commotion to my right, a Lexer. People were flocking around them. They seem to be some sort of famous one, but I've never really cared much about them. There are tens of thousands, probably hundreds of thousands of Lexers in America alone. I never thought they were anything special.

A Lexer is someone who holds the upkeep of the world. Their jobs can range from stopping purse-snatchers, to defeating 3 story tall creatures called Inertians.

Anything with power here has ranks, Inertians, Lexers and the mysterious Licentians They can range from E to S rank. E ranks are the weakest of the weak, S id the strongest of the strong. Anything above a B rank is powerful and rare. About the Licentians, they are mysterious enemies. They are humans, former Lexors who chose to join the Inertians. But, back to MY story.

I entered the office building and was making my way towards my tiny cubicle, when a young man stepped in front of me and spoke.

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

"Trevor! You need to see this!" I sighed as the young man blocked my path.

I reply, obviously tired of him, "What is it now, Murphy?"

Murphy, an enthusiastic 19 year old man who, for some inexplicable reason, adores me, a burned out dejected 22 year old man. Murphy is great at his job, and extremly happy with where he is in life where as I, on the other hand, am tired of everything after only 2 years of being out of college.

He pulls me to his cubicle, which is equally as small as mine. I squeeze in next to him as he shows me what's on his computer. It's a picture of a blue stone. Tired of his nonsense, I speak to him, "Is this really why you called me over? For a... movie."

"Not just any movie! It's the best thing you'll ever see! The first two were amazing, they say this one will be even better! You have to come with me to it!" He says all quick and excited, he looks at me with big, longing eyes.

I'm about to say no, but I look at his face, and let out a sigh.

"Fine... just this once, got it?"

"Thank you so much! I'll see you at the theater by 7:00!"

I walk back to my cubicle, put in my earpiece, and begin work.
