A Hearty Meal

A Hearty Meal

It was a busy day in Arthemor city. Even though the Marquess Arthemor is just passing through the city, the people want to take this opportunity to show their gratitude to their sovereign.

Colourful strips of cloth were tired between building, exotic animals and beasts were bought out, food stall were constructed, flower petals and confetti were prepared.

One would think that it was a once-a-year festival that this city was celebrating, not just the passing of their lord from the city.

As the city was waiting for its lord; it happened.......

*DUOO....DUOOOOOOOOOOOOOO*

Author: Imagine the horns of Isengard.

The horn of House Arthemor was heard.

Their lord had come.

The giant gates of the city opened and the lord entered the city.

Petals and confetti were thrown to the ground, Music was played, all the windows in the main street were packed with people. Everyone wishing longevity for their lord and his family.

Arthemor waved his hands has he was riding his iconic black steed Dulahan.

"Mother, this is embarrassing. That's way too much attention. I would die if I were in father's place." said Dominic

"Hush now my child. You should look out the window and wave as well. Let the people see their future lord." said lady Hilda.

"Ah yes but well no. Really don't want to do that." said Dominic

"If this task is hard for you then..." lady Hilda paused and brought her fan to cover her mouth, covering her smile and continued "Then you will surely not survive meeting your wife."

"Mother please!" said the blushing Dominic as he imagined the whole affair in an instant.

Lady Hilda could not hold her laughter and held her son's head with both her hand and kissed his head.

"This is not negotiable Dominic. You and Lizbeth will marry. She is a very beautiful girl. Apart from beauty, she is also very smart and practices to be a Majai warrior. Her family is quite influential as well" said lady Hilda.

"Sounds like a brute to me" said Dominic as he rolled his eyes.

"Now now, that's no way to talk about your future wife. Especially when you have not seen her." responded lady Hilda.

"Fine fine. Let's see if she is as you speak of her." said Dominic as he looked out the carriage window.

As soon as the servants saw their Lords escort approaching. They all prostrated and the guards took a knights bow while holding their spears up-right.

Lord Arthemor commanded Dulahan to a stop 5 meters away from the Manor stairs.

"Rise!"

Everyone stood in attention.

Leinad who was standing in front of his lord was visibility sweating.

"Ah Leinad! It has been some time since I was here and you have gotten so fat." stated Arthemor.

"Ye...yes, my lord. This humble servant has not been eating well with all my duties" responded Leinad.

"Ahahahah. I think you meant to say you have been eating quite well." said Arthemor.

'This bastard. Making fun of my weight. Just you wait. When you pass through this city, I'll be the one laughing' said Leinad in his head.

"Haha yes my lord" said Leinad in a forced smile.

At the same moment someone said "I have seen you before Leinad, and if you claim that you eating habits aren't that well. It's usually because you are worried about something"

When Leinad heard this, he turned pale.

Everyone looked past their lord and saw boy dressed in a crimson robe come out of the carriage.

"Pe...Per... Perhaps my lord. I always did overthink about all my issues. Haha" said Leinad in a miserable attempt of a smile.

Captain Suryis stepped forward and said "My lord. Let us proceed inside. The journey is going to be a long one for the lady and the young master."

"Very well" said Arthemor as be paid no mind about this butler's anxiety and proceeded.

7:30 pm.

Arthemor Manor dining hall.

"Ahhhhh! That hit the spot. I must commend the chief. I'm as stuffed as beast chicken New Year's Eve." said Dominic as he laid back in his chair.

"Dominic! Have I not told you that this is not how a lord is supposed to carry himself?" said the annoyed Arthemor.

"Father, we are not gods or otherworldly beings. Our blood is as red as the peasant's blood. We defecate just as any other being. You must relax more. Enjoy the little things in life" said Dominic in a satisfied smile.

"You fool! Don't say such things while we are eating. Yes, we bleed just as red but one of the things that makes us different is etiquette. One that you clearly lack." responded Arthemor.

Lady Helda, silently enjoying her meal stopped, cleaned around her mouth with the handkerchief and said "Boys!"

Both Arthemor and Dominic knew what she wanted to say and just diverted their eyes to their own meals and behaved like they were still hungry.

8:00 pm.

'Oh God. Please let everything go smoothly.' said Leinad to himself.

*CREAK*

Leinad opened the door and saw around 4 cooks preparing the meals. The food being cooked for the Lords escorts.

"Ah Mr. Leinad. What bring you to the kitchen?" said a fat chef who had a giant belly.

"Nothing just inspecting the area as every month. I forgot to do it 2 days ago so I'm here to do it right now. By the way. Where is the rest of your staff?" said Leinad as he wanted to change the subject.

"Well, you see Mr. Leinad; the escorts always get better food compared to the normal knights" said the fat chef with a bright smile.

Leinad felt 10 years younger when he heard that. 'AHHHH FINALLY SOME GOOD FUCKING LUCK!!!'

"Alright then, you can carry on" said Leinad.

The chef turned and went back to his work.

Leinad looked over the cauldron and the meat kept for the escorts and said 'Hmm... It seems their food is almost ready. Now to just find the opportune moment.'

Food was kept in the kitchen tables for the escorts. Meat, beer, wine, bread, salads, cheese, maize and all that a soldier would never see even for 10 years of service in the army.

Just before the chef pulled a string that rang a bell, informing the escorts...

*BANG/SMASH/CLATTER*

Loud noises of glass breaking and metals falling on the ground was heard.

All the cooks and the chef stopped whatever they were doing and went to place where the noise came.

As they passed a wooden cupboard, a man suddenly rose up from behind it. It was. Leinad.

'Alright. Best be quick with it.'

He took out the potion from inside his pocket and poured it on all the food he saw on the table and as quickly as one draws 5 breaths, he poured the whole bottle.

He then dashed towards the door as quick as a horse.

"I don't care. If it's none of you, then all will take the blame for that damage." said the angry chef as he came back to the dinning part of the kitchen to ring the bell.

*Chime*

If only they knew what was about to happen, they would gladly take responsibility for breaking the Lord's property.
