DMT - Chapter 3 - Part 7 of 12

“Farsight!” Adamu announced, yet that which he desired did not manifest because the Mana that was supposed to energize his eyes positively glided through them without even a tiny bit latching on the biological structure that was an eye.

“Damn… Had a feeling this would be the case.” Contemplating it for a moment, Adamu chose to utilize the same Spell but with a different Spellcrafting base.

“I, Call Thee, Mystic Eye, Appear and Serve, In my Name - Farsight!”

Done chanting, within moments, a floating eyeball appeared above Adamu’s right palm.

No matter from which side you looked upon it, it appeared to be an ordinary eye, save that it bore the same golden iris as Adamu did.

Observing the Magical Eye for a moment, Adamu closed his eyes and began interacting with it.

At first, it was very disorienting because the Mystic Eye could perceive and transfer more than the typical human eye could. So Adamu took a few moments to shift and tone down on all the information reaching him.

When the standard human visual spectrum appeared, Adamu worked his way up by first shifting away all colors but one. Thus, for one moment, Adamu observed the giant fairytail-like forest through a dark red lens. Then came bright red, orange, yellow, light green, dark green, blue, light purple, and dark violet.

Adamu was doing this to allow his Mind and Spirit to distinctly recognize what everything looked like without all the colors mixing and interfering with each other.

Of course, this was but laying down the groundwork for later in the future because another reason stemmed from the fact that every Mystic Eye, once conjured, needed to be individualized to a Magic user. Meaning, as this was Adamu’s first time summoning a Mystic Eye in his current life, the eye’s inner settings were set to their basics.

Thus, it was up to him to calibrate the Mystic Eye for all future summons of the Mystic Eye.

Either way, once done with the standard human visual spectrum, Adamu had the eye display the ultraviolet and infrared spectrums. Then, once he got used to seeing how that looked, Adamu slowly began widening the view even further.

In the end, only after he went through the full light spectrum had he scaled down the view back to human sight.

That done, Adamu finally activated the thaumaturgical spectrum, aka Mana Sight, only to shut it down an instant later because of the glare he received through the Mystic Eye.

“Holly… Ugh… Should have known Mana Sight would be useless.” Nodding with the understanding of the Silver Light’s saturation outside the Sanctuary, Adamu shook his head at the realization that Mana Sight would be useless during the Day as well because the inside of the Sanctuary was filled with True Light. “Mmm…. Wait a moment.”

Realizing something, Adamu quickly had the Mystic Eye turn its gaze at him, or better said, at his body.

“Knew it.”

Seeing the clear contrast of something not saturated with Mana, Adamu instantly began adapting the visual feed for Essence.

Luckily, a Mystic Eye was designed just for that, and soon enough, Adamu had managed to achieve the perfect contrast between Mana and Essence, such that a whole new world opened up to his Mind and Spirit. However, in Adamu’s case, that meant very little since his entire body got saturated with only one color, the color of white.

Though, that was not the natural color of Essence as it turned out. No. In truth, the Essence inside Adamu was transparent. Thus, to better visualize what the Mystic Eye showed him, Adamu made Essence appear pure white.

As such, using the newly acquired ability to perceive Essence, Adamu again gazed around himself. What he found, however, was not what he thought he would find because the fairytail-like forest was no longer just pure static silver.

No, it was a mix of silver and white.

Better said, it was a mix of enormous white trees outlined by the silver color, thus making a picture without actually drawing an actual tree.

On a hunch, Adamu reverted his white color setting for Essence and realized the blunder he had just made because the ancient giant trees around him were, in fact, not transparent at all but filled with various colors of brown, green, and yellow.

“Aaa… I'll ignore the obvious and settle for the simple… Only Pure Essence is transparent since it has not been colored by something.” Glad at the little discovery, Adamu again adjusted the settings, and the ancient giant forest delivered a brand new view into his mind. “Much better, though I will still have to adjust the other colors as I come across them.”

“Overall, however, I am happy. Now let me see what that big Monster looks like.”

Floating the eyeball through the forest was simple, though it was slow because Adamu did not empower it with any other Spell.

In fact, being conjured into a physical form was one of the major weaknesses of the Mystic Eye. As such, it was easily detected if not careful. Even then, once noticed, it was even easier to destroy. That being the case, the advanced version of it was to apply its abilities to one's own eyes, thus eliminating that problem in favor of allowing others to manifest.

Either way, the Magical floating eyeball slowly made its way to the giant bear/cat Monster by drifting near the giant trees, thus preventing anything with flying capabilities from snatching it away, as there were plenty of things up there inside the giant tree’s treetops.

Unfortunately, they were too far to allow Adamu to further adjust to his newly gained Essence Sight.

Setting aside everything else, the Magical floating eyeball arrived, and Adamu finally took in the entire visual cue of the giant Monster that had, twice so far, terrorized him within three days if his time-tracking ability had not been skewed, to begin with.

That also made today's Night the 18th Night since Adamu emerged from the Orb of Rebirth. Thinking of the Orb for a moment, Adamu sidelined it, as it would stay where it had till he came to retrieve it.

Gazing at the enormous mass of flesh and death, Adamu took in every single inch of the bear/cat visage.

“Just seeing and realizing its giant predatory nature is transmitting fearful shivers down my spine? Would the effect be even stronger if it were awake?” Adamu asked himself because now that he observed the Monster live and from up close, he knew without any doubt that it was still alive despite the injury caused to its throat.

Moments later, Adamu reached an even more definitive conclusion.

Support the creativity of authors by visiting Royal Road for this novel and more.

The Monster was alive.

But it was either resting or unconscious because only its chest showcased movement.

That being the case, Adamu ditched any thought of immediate retaliation and instead desired to quench his thirst for knowledge. Knowledge about the Monster and the hybrids that seemed to be attracted to Adamu unless he altered his base vibrational frequency to mimic trees, or Nature if it had to be defined further.

As such, within moments, the Mystic Eye began shifting between all the visual spectrums it could, Mana and Essence included.

The result was obvious, perplexing, and plainly confusing at the same time.

The obvious came from Mana Sight, as the Monster appeared to not be, in truth, an actual living mutated animal but a Conjured Construct made out of True Darkness to replicate that which was alive to a frightening degree.

How had Adamu figured out that fact?

Well, the first clue had been the smoke dispersal of the hybrids after death, and now that he witnessed the Mana permeating the bear/cat Monster’s body, it was easy to make the correlation. Mostly by relying on Adamu’s or his predecessors, experience by using similar Conjured Construct before.

A prime example would be the Mystic Eye used to perceive the Monster's insides.

However, that was where the obvious ended.

The perplexing facts, however, started when Adamu remembered that he butchered the bear/cat Monster’s lesser cousin, the rat/cat, and even ingested his fill of its flesh.

The reason it was perplexing dealt with the facts that Conjured items and creatures were never conjured with actual physical material or flesh, as that would make the Conjuring Spell a magnitude higher to accomplish due to the sheer amount of Mana required.

No.

What actually occurred was that a Conjured item or creature inhabited an ectoplasmic body made out of Mana, thus making it neither alive nor dead, but a complex Spellcraft that followed the will of the Conjurer to the best of its possibility.

However, there was one possibility of just such a thing occurring, and regularly at that.

If that were the case, it could certainly explain why Causalities Compulsion Compast navigated him down to the depths of the rat/cat den.

Regardless of the possibility, Adamu sidelined it for later verification and instead settled his attention on the last perplexing sight, the color patterns on the bear/cat Monster’s hide.

With Mana Sight, Adamu effortlessly recognized where the Silver pattern on its black hide came from. There was only one possible option, so Adamu sidelined it as well because to figure out the pattern, Adamu would have to dive into the Monster's body.

Regardless, it was the gray color of the tiger camouflage pattern on the giant bear/cat Monster that brought forth confusion to Adamu.

To figure out the gray color making up the tiger pattern on its body, it took switching to Essence Sight, and just like the Silver Pattern, diving into the Monster’s body to figure it out was not an option, not that Adamu could even if he wanted to at this point.

However, where the truly confusing part came from was how the hybrids even possessed essence to begin with. Additionally, what was that glowing bulb inside the giant bear/cat Monster’s head?

Thinking about it, Adamu saw two possibilities emerge.

Since it was in the head, it could only be the Monster’s Spirit. Nevertheless, if that was the case, why was it displayed through Essence Sight instead of Mana Sight as it should be?

The second possibility stemmed from the fact that Adamu received a reward every time he killed one of the hybrids, hence, that glowing bulb could represent a storage compartment for Pure Essence.

Unfortunately, Adamu could not confirm either option by comparison as his Mystic Eye caught no other creature within its sight.

“It seems I will have to kill to confirm anything.”

One thing Adamu was certain about.

He was not leaving his Sanctuary to kill the Monster, and that meant his only option was to kill from a distance, which was fine for him.

What was not fine, however, was not having the Raw Mana reserves to cast such a powerful Spell. Thus, all Adamu could do was channel from the Realm Grid once more, wait, and hope the Monster did not wake till he got the required amounts because he had to make sure the Spell became a Monster killing Spell.

As such, as time passed, and the Pentagram/Pentstar Ritual beneath his feet striped colored Mana into Raw Mana, Adamu plotted on the proper Spellcraft configuration.

At the same time, he plotted for the best possible result, which meant deploying the Eternal Light close to the bear/cat Monster to discourage its ability to become smoke.

Already, Adamu could imagine himself finally wearing something other than a leaf-vine over his nether region.

Once everything was in place, Adamu started.

“Oh, Water!”

“In my Name!”

“Gather, Condense, and Freeze!”

“Seek, Penetrate, and Strike True!”

“To Furiously Rob this Monster’s very Warmth Away!”

“Ice Arrow!”

Similar to the Lightning Arrow, Adamu took an archer's pose, only this time it was water that gathered, condensed, and froze into the shape of an arrow. Nevertheless, unlike the Lightning Arrow, this time it was much easier to notice what went on once the arrow of ice manifested, especially when the modifiers for the Spell began stacking on each other through different hues and shapes of Runic Patterns emerging on the arrow of ice.

Once everything was ready, and every shred of Mana inside the Sanctuary Core vanished as fuel, Adamu tiled his body upward and made a releasing motion into the air.

Immediately, the arrow of ice, as large as an adult human forearm, flew through the air on a parabolic arc just below the treetops of the ancient giant trees, only to descend straight down onto the Monster.

Specifically, right on the tender and injured throat, skin, and neck muscles of the bear/cat Monster.

Through the Mystic Eye, Adamu saw the penetration occur smoothly, and since the arrow was much shorter than the Monster’s entire neck girth, it efficiently vanished inside. That was when the bear/cat suddenly opened its diamond-irised eyes to issue a growl of displeasure.

What it did not expect, however, was how that displeasure soon became a discomfort, only for it to become a disability as the Magic Arrow rapidly stole the warmth from its throat by ever spreading Ice Magic through its arteries. And since the head and heart were much closer to the point of impact, those areas were first to feel the aftereffects.

At the same time, Adamu watched as the Monster began shaking and trembling before eventually using its front claws to claw at its throat in an attempt to dislodge that which froze it from the inside.

However, no matter how much it scratched, it simply would not go away, and instead, it only hurt itself more and more.

Not long after that, the bear/cat Monster stood on four legs and began a fit of rage, with the ancient giant trees around it bearing the brunt of its rage.

Not that any of it helped when the Ice Magic spread to its brain and heart. Once it was in those vital organs, the Monsters immediately slowed down.

It tried to roar but could not.

It tried to jerk its head this or that way, but every time it did so, Adamu noticed its motions slow even further as if its actions only helped spread the Ice Magic further and faster. The same occurred with the heart. The more the Monster vigorously moved, the more blood it required, thus causing the cycle of stolen heat and spreading cold to flow even faster through an endothermic reaction of Heat and Cold Profound Laws interacting with each other.

In the end, once enough Ice Magic was around the brain and heart, ice crystals formed inside both and clogged the arteries.

Like a cycle, the Ice Magic siphoned and grew stronger off the generated heat of the Monster’s body, and soon enough, Adamu saw the Monster simply freeze as its brain froze and its heart stopped beating.

However, it had yet to die.

Hence, after seeing the Monster cease all physical actions, Adamu, through Sun Bearer and the Mystic Eye, controlled the Eternal Light nearby and maximized its illuminating capacity to prevent the bear/cat Monster from smoking away and not leaving him with any loot.

“Ice Magic,” Adamu remarked with delight. “Very deadly when properly applied.”
