DMT - Chapter 3 - Part 5 of 12

After a few moments of pondering and prodding the memories he could recall, Adamu found his answer.

Although it was never implied with a term like conducting, it was implied with the term repelling. Even still, it wasn't an actual repel function, but similar to oil and water, the innate qualities of Essence and Mana do not mix together.

Since Adamu had filled his biological vessel with Pure Essence to the brim, Mana simply glided through his body as if no obstacle presented itself.

It was that repel function that facilitated the channels of Essence Master manifested during Awakening, as it was that innate quality that allowed Mana channeling through Essence channels, such that it allowed an Essence Master to mix Essence with Mana before creating a new mix to temper into difference kinds of energies, yet ultimately remain the same at their core.

Naturally, there were more factors involved, but they did not matter to Adamu, yet, as he examined what he knew and what had just happened to him, an obvious conclusion reached his conscience.

Useless.

It was useless to him because what Adamu was endeavoring to do ran counterclockwise to what all Essence Awakeners did. There simply would not be any channels in his body since every single cell in his body would become attuned to one single core vibrational frequency.

As such, Adamu disregarded the gliding effect.

Instead, Adamu focused on channeling Mana into the Ritual beneath him.

By the time Noon arrived and the Noon Prayer was professed, most of the Sanctuary Core was filled.

That made Adamu both happy and unhappy.

Happy because he would finally utilize some Magic and proper Spells instead of relying on a higher existence.

The unhappy part emerged when he realized that the Raw Mana capacity was even lower than he imagined, considering Adamu hadn't even gone full out on the Mana draw because the amount of Mana processed depended on a lot of factors, with Ingredients and Ritual size being the most important ones.

As such, Adamu scowled when he realized the size of the actual storage capacity.

“Sigh… It is what it is.”

After spending more time to fill the Core to the brim, Adamu ceased drawing from the Realm Grid.

Instead, he focused on the Raw Mana in the Core and drew some of that out.

Since it was Raw, naturally it took more focus to use it, but that did not slow down Adamu. All it did was increase the amount of effort he gladly spent. In today's case, that effort manifested in the form of Raw Mana drawn around Adamu’s Spirit, only to eventually rotate around it for a few moments before the Raw Mana took the actual shape of the Sanctuary Ritual beneath his feet.

Once the replica around Adamu’s Spirit was finished, a resonance occurred between the replica and the actual thing. With the resonance, the replica was no longer a replica but a reflection Adamu could utilize without the need for direct contact with either the Ritual or the Sanctuary Core.

Thus, the reflection became the remote controller for the whole Sanctuary Ritual.

With the remote in his possession, Adamu focused on it to slowly experiment and verify that everything was working perfectly since there was more to the Ritual than simple color striping of the Mana.

Once everything was confirmed as operational, Adamu focused on the five small circles representing the Five Basic Principles of Magic.

Enchantment, Evocation, Domination, Alteration, Configuration.

Specifically, Adamu remotely withdrew the Raw Mana from the Core and had it enter the Enchantment circle.

“I” Affirming the resonance, Adamu pushed the now Principled Mana to the second circle, Evocation.

“Call Thee.” Another verification and the Mana flowed to the third circle, Conjuration.

“Light.” Then, the Mana flowed to the fourth, which was Domination.

“In my Name.” After that came the last circle, Alteration.

“Appear and Shine.” The moment the words left Adamus's mouth, he outstretched his right hand, and above it manifested a small ball of light, white light, to be precise. It was barely the size of Adamu’s outstretched palm, but just seeing it made Adamu extremely giddy as if it were the first Spell he had ever cast.

“Wait… It is my first Spell, kind of.” Adamu determinedly declared. “What I did with Ina’s Glory does not count.” Shaking his head, Adamu banished the line of thought and dismissed the shiny ball of white light.

Rather, Adamu chanted once again.

“I, Call Thee, Fire, In my Name, Appear and Flare.” Done, a small floating flame appeared right above Adamu’s outstretched right palm. It seemed weak and barely there, yet it radiated a warmth that could heat one up during winter itself if you had the Mana to sustain it, that is.

Dismissing the small flame as well, another chant took its place.

“I, Call Thee, Wind, In my Name, Appear and Dance.” The call came, and the wind responded as a transparent flow of air danced around Adamu before settling into a wilful sphere of activity that simply desired to roam free instead of being chained to its current shape.

Dismissing it as well, a fourth chant echoed from Adamu’s mouth.

“I, Call Thee, Earth, In my Name, Appear and Express.” The manifestation of the earth was the most special because it came not from any visible source but seemed as if conjured from nothingness, which was actually correct since the intent during chanting was extremely influential.

Additionally, there was a hierarchy of words when chanting. Thus, the longer the chant, the more the last spoken words mattered. In this case, a small clamp of loose dirt manifested in the shape of a human being, as that was what Adamu desired to happen.

Then, the clump of earth started to animate itself in the form of basic punches and kicks.

“Hehe…” Laughing with a child-like face, Adamu gazed at the clump of earth undergoing a clumsy battle with an invisible enemy. “Sigh… Though it hasn't been that long since I was born anew… oh, how I missed this feeling of magnificence. A true shame I won't be able to do Magic so casually in the future. Ugh… I guess.”

Dismissing the last clump of earth, Adamu tried to chant one last time, but just as he wanted, a thought occurred that may result in him having spent a lot of effort the previous day for nothing. Turning his head at Ina’s Idol outside the Sanctuary and gazing at it for a few moments, the hindsight was shoved away as useless since it was better to have a constant water source than one relying on the pitiful Raw Mana reserves of the Sanctuary Core.

“Besides, the reserves will be in use constantly anyway.” Shaking his head and shrugging his shoulders, Adamu chanted one last time.

“I, Call Thee, Water, In my Name, Appear and Quench.” A hand-sized ball of water manifested, only to be brought before Adamu’s mouth.

A slurp later, Adamu frowned. Another gulp and the frown deepened further.

“Was there something special about that river?” Receiving no answer, Adamu dismissed the now small ball of water in favor of checking the Mana reserves inside the Core. “Definitely, pitiful reserves.”

“Whatever.”

Finally done, confirming the full functionality of the Ritual, Adamu wondered what exactly he should work on first.

Should he immediately start on Sun Bearer's spearhead? Or should he try to diversify his tool list further before focusing on the obsidian? And if he did, what would it be? Because there was a vast difference between conjuring some lump of earth and conjuring metal to make metal tools.

“No… let me try something first.” Focusing for a moment, Adamu considered the proper chant alongside the Ritual Pattern and the Name of the Spell.

Then, when he had all three, he kneeled down and placed his right hand on the earth before focusing on the Ritual reflection around his Spirit. Through it, he drew on the Raw Mana from the Sanctuary Core and drove it where it needed to be to acquire the required modifiers for what the Spell should do.

“I, Seek Thee, Iron, in my Name, Show me your present Dwellings, Earth Pulse.”

The instant the chant finished, Adamu's right hand pulsed with Mana codified for a particular Material-Element of Earth.

Since the Ritual was the true origin of the Mana spreading into the ground, the range naturally increased above that which the Ritual represented. As such, the moment the Mana found what it sought within a radius of fifty meters around the ritual, Adamu knew as well.

Nonetheless, the results clearly showed on his face. “Great… Just Great… Sigh… Obsidian it is, then.”

Staring at the small leaf-vine bag around his neck, Adamu had to admit that he was surprised that it had even survived this far, especially with an obsidian pocket knife inside it.

Regardless, Adamu took the obsidian pocket knife and stared at it momentarily.

Drawing on the Raw Mana, Adamu channeled some into himself, thus once more recognizing the gliding Mana had through his current body before focusing it into the knife made of glass.

The focus of entry was the hilt. Still, moments later, the same Mana departed through the tip of the knife.

Then, Adamu repeated the exercise multiple times.

In truth, there was not much to be attained this way, especially since Adamu had not tempered the Mana to innately reflect to him what it interacted with inside the obsidian pocket knife, and neither had Adamu cast a Spell for just one such purpose.

Still, Adamu did it for one reason and one reason only. He wanted to check the flow of Mana through the rock because there were differences between the Mana flows of the different types of Nature Glass, as it was correctly categorized.

Obsidian, being the darkest of its variety, reduced the flow of Mana considerably when compared to the other varieties. Primarily because obsidian contained very high amounts of Iron compared to the other Nature-Glass type Material-Elements.

Meaning, that Pure Iron was not a very Mana conductive Material-Element.

Hence, what Adamu deduced from the effort was simple. Concentrating on his Phrasing, the Casting Pattern, and the Name of the Spell, Adamu drew and cycled the Raw Mana through the Ritual.

“Oh, Obsidian!” First came Conjuring to define the material/concept of what the Spell will work with.

“I Comand Thee!” Then Dominion, to define from whom the Spell comes, hence accentuating the control factor of the Spell through the Rank of the Caster, ie, Spirit density/integrity.

“Hold what you Are!” Evocation to define the actions of the Spell by defining the limits of what the Spell should or should not do.

“Remove that Which you are Not!” Alteration to execute, to alter that which was or was not defined by the Spell.

“Become what you Were meant to Be!” Lastly came Enchantment to anchor the Spell on the obsidian pocket knife instead of on the caster.

That also became the point when Adamu guided the ordered Mana through himself and into the obsidian pocket knife. Then, and only then, had Adamu uttered the name of the Spell, as within the Name of the Spell laid the instructions for the patterns a Spell needed to be cast successfully.

“Earth Purification!”

The instant the Name of the Spell echoed out, Adamu noticed the obsidian in his hand glow and shudder as if trying its best to shake off that which it was not.

How it did that was another factor that could be further clarified within the Chant, but the more words were included in a Chant, the more expensive it became.

Regardless, the Spell would complete what it was told to do by either completing the task or running out of energy while executing the Spell. It was for that reason that Adamu cycled some Raw Man through the obsidian pocket knife. To get an intimate flow of how much would be needed. Of course, since Adamu could not accurately sense the flow of Raw Mana through the black glass, he had been generous with the needed energy for the Spell.

Either way, it took very little time for the first signs to appear in the form of tiny grains dropping from the edges of the obsidian pocket knife. Additionally, it did not matter what was removed from its insides.

All that mattered was that the definition of Obsidian, plus all the Profound Laws of Nature Glass, were defined a long, long, long time ago.

So long ago, in fact, that almost all the Realms held the same definition of what Obsidian was, even if a Mortal who cast the Spell had not. Thus, the black glass in Adamu’s hand shed teeny tiny tears of impurities, thus, in turn, becoming even smaller than it used to be as the Spell removed that which Obsidian was not and instead became what it was meant to be.

In this case, a pitch-black glass, which sucked the very Light from the world and trapped it within its glassy internal world. At least, it appeared that way with its black sheen that should but did not reflect a strand of Light for Adamu to see on it or through it.

Another name for pure Obsidian was light drinker glass.

Appropriately, the term Light Drinker got allotted to an Ehchantment bearing said Magical Effect, and it was that Magical Effect that had given Adamu the initial idea for Sun Bearer. Of course, at that time, he had no way of refining the obsidian in his possession, so it was relegated to just a sharp instrument.

Now, though? Now, the Obsidian pocket knife in his hand would find its proper place as soon as he was done growing it, Magically, of course.

Unfortunately, as Adamu examined the ink-black glass knife, growing any hard material took a good amount of Mana. So much, in fact, that Adamu would need several sessions of drawing Mana from the Realm Grid just to grow it a tiny bit, thanks to the lack of Mana storage capacity of the Sanctuary Core.

“Guess I better start now. Since there is still a long time before Night comes, to test the other element of the Sanctuaries Stealth feature.”
