8: System Throughout the Dream (3)

As Mimoun glanced between systems, his gaze once again fell upon the harem system.

"This system has always been a dream for anyone who has read some of those awful Asian novels. They were novels devoid of any meaning, purpose, or moral lesson, yet they managed to garner quite a following, especially among young males."

Mimoun smirked with a hint of cunning. He talk about those novels as if he scorned them, yet deep down, he was intrigued by them.

"During the stage when a young man is at a difficult point in building his character and goals, a period filled with desires, dreams, and unfulfilled hopes, and with all those wrong circumstances filling his mind with the intellectual invasion he watches on his phone, TV, or from brainwashed peers, it will inevitably lead the young man to fall into mistakes almost predetermined by the circumstances he lives through."

"Here come these novels exploiting his unfulfilled dreams and numerous mistakes burdening him, taking him on a fantastical journey where the protagonist gets another chance to correct his mistakes, gain wealth, power, revenge, and of course, women."

Mimoun rubbed his chin thoughtfully, pondering over this matter.

"Thinking about it now, it's a cheap yet clever trick to attract disillusioned youth, finding themselves suddenly addicted to stories lacking creativity in any aspect, yet they've become addicts nonetheless. Plot? Realistic characters?? Logic??? Throw all of that in the trash bin. What matters is to escape reality, that's what I need."

"And of course, the delusional youth will imagine himself in the place of the hero, rejoicing in his triumphs and grieving in his sorrows. He'll feel ecstatic imagining himself as the hero who has gold raining down on him while he's busy exacting revenge against someone who had no role in the story other than to bully the hero when he was young. This will drive the hero to seek strength, and after rigorous training lasting at most a couple of chapters, the hero will gain muscles that the bully won't acquire even after many years of training."

Mimoun chuckled as he recalled these unfair details.

"Even the bully's sister, supposed to stand by her brother, will watch his handsome face turn into a terrifying mass of bruises without any qualms. The poor girl is too preoccupied thinking about how wonderful it would be to warm the hero's bed after he's done with her brother. As for the hero, he's now gleefully plotting revenge against another person on his long list of debts against his former enemies... of course, these debts will come with compound interest. If I touched a hair on my head, I'll shave your entire head; if I threw a rose at you, I'll respond with bullets."

Mimoun shook his head, feeling sorry for the poor bully.

"And of course, let's not forget to add a new girl to his Pokémon collection. And for a little change, so it doesn't become boring, the next girl will be another bully's fiancée, childhood friend, teacher, or even his mother? Yes, his mother, who endured carrying him, giving birth to him, raising him, and ultimately disowning him for the hero's sake. How did that happen? Simply because the writer is on the hero's side."

"Yes, this seems good, but it's dangerously toxic to a degree that makes me wonder where it began mentioning its harms and where it ends."

Mimoun suddenly felt a pang of panic, placing his hand on his face, feeling the cold sweat on his forehead and back.

If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

"Why didn't I notice this before? What kind of sedative was I taking that led me to read this kind of novels and addiction? Was I under some sort of brainwashing or hypnotic trance, or what? Or was I aware of it but chose to overlook it?"

"Does this also mean that I'll become like the protagonist of the harem novel if I choose this system?"

"Of course, it all comes back to me even if I choose this system, but I can't help but ask myself, can I use this system in the right way? Am I confident in controlling my rampant desires if put in a situation that allows me to fulfill them?"

"I must not deceive myself at this stage, it's easy to criticize others for their actions and decisions when I haven't experienced the same thing, but how would the outcome be if I were in their shoes? What would I do then?"

"To say that I don't have any rampant thoughts would be a lie, even the purest of people must have such desires, as in the end, everyone is created equal, we all flesh and blood with desires and cravings they long to fulfill."

"And here lies the crossroads that will separate the good from the bad. The first category will choose to let their desires manifest openly without restraint, which will make them grow into extreme and unnatural desires, leading them to become slaves to them. Some might think that human desire for pleasure will stop at a certain point, but that won't happen unless the owner stops it. If left unchecked, it will grow and change over time. Unfortunately, this was the category most people belonged to."

"The second category, the minority, suppresses those desires and pleasures, but that doesn't mean they'll rid themselves of them forever; that's impossible. However, by performing certain actions that set boundaries and knowing when and where to express them appropriately, those pleasures become a means and not an end."

"The saint and the hedonist aren't born; they're made. That's why I can't later claim if I choose this system and get drowned in pleasures, then claim it's inevitable and beyond my control."

"Can you, Mimoun, use this system without it enslaving you? How much trust do you have in yourself?"

Mimoun spoke aloud to himself as if conversing with another person standing before him. If someone happened to pass by his room's door by chance, they would undoubtedly assume that Mimoun, or rather, Faït as he was now known, was not alone in the room. Yet, if that person entered and found the young man standing alone, engaged in conversation with emptiness, they might conclude that the boy had completely lost his mind.

However, Mimoun didn't have time to fear the opinions that might form against him in that moment. He was faced with a pivotal decision that he had to make now, one that would impact his future indefinitely, not just in this dream. Therefore, even if someone happened to enter the room and find him in this situation, he wouldn't stop what he was doing.

"Do you know yourself well, Mimoun, enough to say that if you find yourself in such situations, you'll choose the fair option? Will you be sure of your reaction based on your self-knowledge? Will you be better than the protagonists of the stories you criticized earlier?"

Mimoun was now in a peculiar state, his mind divided into halves, one posing questions and the other trying to answer them as best as possible.

"Of course... of course, I don't know. Can anyone really claim how they'll be tomorrow? Will they be the same person they are now, no matter how much time changes? Or will certain circumstances give them convictions they've never had before? I can't claim what I'll be like tomorrow, so how about a year from now, or 10 years, or even 47 years? Who can know with their limited mind? Even if someone holds the same beliefs they believed in before, can they guarantee they can apply them in certain circumstances? Of course I can't claim, it's something anyone can claim."

"Only the absolute in everything can guarantee that ."

"Therefore, I must strive to create supportive conditions for myself as much as possible, hoping to achieve my goal and narrow down the paths I can walk on, so as not to get lost in the complexity of choices."

"So, what should I choose? There are many diverse systems. The systems of goodness seem like the safe choice, but I feel that the neutral systems are more suitable. Perhaps because they represent the true human being. If systems of goodness represent angels and evil represents demons, then surely neutrality represents those who have the choice, the human and the jinn."

The more Mimoun thought, the fewer his options seemed, but also, the more fearful he became that everything he was contemplating might be wrong. He couldn't help but pray for guidance in his choice. As he scanned through neutral and good systems, he suddenly came across a system that intrigued him.

"Wait, how did I not notice this system? It's quite interesting. Let's see what its description says."

Marriage System: Behind every great man is a woman; throughout history, man has been a symbol of bravery, strength, and creativity. But before all those great achievements, he faced a difficult path to navigate alone. It was a path so arduous that he could hardly traverse it solo. Were it not for wise women guiding him, he might have stumbled midway. When he was young, his mother or sister nurtured and cared for him, and as he grew and became rigid to the point where it was difficult for him to adapt to different situations without breaking, his wife came along to erase that excess harshness. A good wife is a symbol of a man's success.

Warning: This system significantly increases your strength in marriage, but it does not guarantee you righteous wives. You must choose wisely from the women who will be your wives, for just as they are a symbol of family and community growth and righteousness, they can also be the cause of its corruption.

"... It seems like this system will be my companion on this journey."
