Chapter 5. A Need for Speed

Dice. There were more hidden facets to it than he had thought. It took a day, but after compiling his experiments with X's anwsers he had come to a few conclusions.

Each "stat" was a general enhancement to his body, but he could also ask for something more specific, break down the categories so to speak. It was so obvious in hindsight that he couldn't believe it took him so long to realize, his newly gained 20/20 eyesight standing testament.

Another was "amplification". By limiting the enhancement to certain body parts he could greatly increase the power pay off with less dice. Honestly, watching himself crush an apple simply by flexing his fingers after spending only a few dice was still an incredible sight. And incredibly scary if he was, to be honest.

If this was how strong he got after playing around for a few days... How strong was the other Dicer? Those that have had who knows how many weeks, months, even years to collect and gather dice? Wouldn't they all be superhumans by now? At this rate, dodging bullets and outrunning a train wouldn't be something confined to comic books.

This also begged the question: "Who do we need this power to defeat?"

Games are only interesting when the players are challenged... But what in this world could possibly need this much firepower to take down? An alien invasion? A dragon?

Damien shook his head to rid himself of the troubling thoughts. There was no way that'd be true, or else dice would've been known across the world by now. No, he didn't know what secrets were hidden behind his game, but he'd rather find out and be part of the wave, rather than part of the helpless and ignorant masses waiting to be swept away.

It's been 6 days ever since he discovered Dice, and he has been rigorously completing all the Quests X has assigned him. He has been saving most of his until he figured out how he wanted to spend them, and he has finally decided.

His new stats currently looked decent, at least he thought it did. There was no convenient "Level" section for him to compare, but he did his best.

Strength: 15   |  Agility: 30   |   Dexterity: 18    |   Endurance:15   |   Stamina: 22

Regeneration: 30   |   Reflex: 21   |   Luck: 10    |   Charisma: 15   |   Intelligence: 11

Hand Strength +3   |   Legs Strength +7   |   Eyes Sight +2

Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.

His body truly was similar to a game character. There was no "HP" bar to conveniently prevent damage. If he cut himself, he would still bleed. He could still get tired, hungry, and sprains. Waking up didn't magically heal him. However, it was as if his body was "frozen". He had been working out this past week, and yet he never gained anything. No new stat points, nor any sign of muscle growth.

Oh, sure, he still got sore and all, but nothing else. It was quite odd and saddening that he could no longer improve the "old fashioned way".

There was just something missing from simply increasing his parameters with a click of a button.

Still, the results spoke for themselves. He was miles stronger than he once was. At this point he didn't need to avoid going out after dark or avoiding alleyways, gangsters and would-be muggers had better watch out for him.

10 was the average stat for a person according to X, however just because one's stat was "twice" the amount didn't mean their ability was simple two times its values. There was a qualitative change after the 20 point milestone, and each point's "value" would grow higher than previous.

If 10 was average, 20 would be peak physical performance on par with Bruce Lee or Special Ops soldiers. Right now, with Damien's current agility, he could easily run laps around Usain Bolt. He hasn't tried yet, but he was confident in catching arrows with his bare hands if needed. It felt as if he had been reborn like he had become another species entirely.

He felt pretty confident to face whatever Event X had in mind now. He could dodge or outrun anything he could think of besides race cars and had enough Stamina to do so for hours. He even spent a lot of points in the subdivision of Stamina so that he could heal from wounds and regain strength faster.

He was built for survival. A large stupid grin was on his face as he flexed in front of his bathroom mirror. Not that he had actually spent any points in appearance nor looked any different, but posturing was fun when you know for a fact you could kick everybody's ass in your school. All at once at the same time.

New Quest!

Ask out a guy in front of your classmates.

Rewards: Dicex10

Trololol, what are you doing looking stupid by yourself?

:P

...This bastard...

He knew he could've declined... But another glance at the reward had his head hung low, all previous pride and self-esteem have gone like a deflated balloon. X had been reducing the number of quests recently for some reason, and this was the largest reward he had seen in quite some time.

"I'll get you back one day. I promise, and I don't go back on my word."

Good luck with that, Casanova~! (>^3^)>  <(^Ɛ^<]

I'll be waiting, lol Wink [https://www.royalroadcdn.com/public/smilies/wink.png]

So do you accept the quest or not?

He gave a loud groan before accepting, as he already knew he would. This was going to be awkward...
