Volume 2 Chapter 21: The Beating Begins

After an awkward moment caused by Juniper vandalizing the painting of Trevor's ancestor, all four individuals find themselves standing in an opens space before the ruins of the once great Belmont hold.

"Another family heirloom ruined." Trevor mutters while shaking his head.

"Come on, at least you can laugh at this, unlike the whole "family burning to death" thing." The moth yells over to the group of three standing opposite to her.

"You really aren't good at cheering people up, demon." Alucard says while smiling at his companion's misfortune.

"Hey! At least I'm trying." Chuckling at the strange situation, she readies herself.

"You lot ready? Because here I come!" Having given the warning, Juniper kicks off the ground and dashes forward.

Being a lot more prepared than the first time around, the trio immediately reacts.

Alucard charges to meet her, meanwhile a silver streak races at her like a serpent from one side and four spinning ice discs from the other, both aiming for her flanks.

'Fucking hell.' The moth thinks to herself as she immediately finds herself in the midst of a pincer attack.

Mind racing thanks to [Focus] and a grasp on the intentions of her foes with her observation haki, she coats one of her additional arms with armament haki and punches the flail end of the Morningstar whip.

But that is already where things escalate.

Her punch somehow caused the chains to loop around her arm, with a tug from Belmont they constrict and wrap around her limb.

Green smoke starts to rise as the blessed weapon touches her chitinous armour.

"*Hiss!* Seriously?!" Dumbfounded by the absurd skill that Trevor holds over the whip, Juniper goes for the simplest solution and covers her entire forearm in haki to protect herself against the effects of the holy weapon and shifts her stance before pulling hard on the chain.

Unable to contest against her strength, Belmont gets pulled off his feet.

Forced to change her focus, the moth swings her spear at the ice discs and shatters them.

Turning to the last threat, she barely caught the black and red blur marking Alucard's use of his vampiric speed.

Her haki is already blaring warnings at her, but that got only worse when she suddenly gets pulled to the side, almost causing her to stagger.

Trevor had taken the moment to get his feet back on the ground and braced himself against the chain.

Clearly feeling the danger from her right side where she was still wide open because of the earlier swing with the spear and now the pulling of the chain, Juniper finds herself restraining the desire to release a lesser shinra tensei with her psychokinesis and just push everything away.

Instead, the additional arm on her right side releases its mantis blade and stabs at the incoming half-vampire who moved into the place of the ice discs.

Caught off guard, the blade stabs his leg, staggering him just long enough to bring the spear back down.

Having learned from their first exchange, Alucard does not block the attack, instead he redirects it into the ground where it creates a small pit from the force it contained.

This would have left her open again, if not for the now revealed mantis blade slashing at him.

Imminent threat successfully avoided for the moment, Juniper yanks on the chained-up limb, intending to send the annoying guy on the other end flying again, but instead, the chains loosen and pull back.

'Oh shit!' Bringing up her left main hand and covering it in haki, she blocks the flail end that came rushing at her face.

A strange saturation of the air caught the moth's attention, but before she could fully understand what it meant, the ground between her and Sypha froze over and giant ice spikes explode out of the ground.

Unable to dodge or cover all the affected areas in haki, she brings up her arms to cover her face before the glacial spikes slam into her body and send her flying.

Falling back down after a short moment of sailing through the air, she rolls through the grass for dozens of meters before jumping back on her feet and sliding a bit further while pulling two trenches through the dirt with her claws.

Many punctures dot her body from where the spikes had pierced through her clothes and skin, but only very little blood seeps out from these wounds.

'Damn, thank the system for the subdermal.' A lot of the blunt force had travelled through the protective layer and rattled her innards, but no spikes managed to pierce through.

Straightening her back, the moth rolls her shoulders as a wide grin starts stretching across her face.

"First hit guys. Took you long enough, let's see if you can get in a few more!" Feeling her blood beginning to roar in her veins, the moth jumps back into the fight.

At first, she continued to be on the defensive, overwhelmed by the teamplay and skills of her opponents.

Alucard as the groups frontliner took some nasty hits when she pulled out more of her mantis blades, but his vampiric nature allowed him to heal quickly.

The silvery blade of his also managed to strike true multiple times across their repeated exchanges.

That's when they learned that slashing wounds do jack-shit against the subdermal armour of their opponent.

More and more black spots appear on Juniper's body as her skin gets ripped, torn and slashed apart, exposing the armour underneath to the night air, which causes it to turn black, like her chitin.

Once they figured out that slashing won't work, Sypha started to send thinner and stronger ice spears at her, turning the grassy field into a scene that unpleasantly reminded Alucard of the things that his father is so well known for.

A stab from the half-vampire to the right side of her stomach marked the first real blood drawn by the group as the blade pierced through the armour and into the moth's gut's.

Sypha soon also managed to rip a hole into one of her thighs and tear the wings to shreds with a blizzard full of sharp icicles.

Then Trevor showcased his immense skill with the whip and managed to land an actual hit on one of the moth's main arms while she was busy reinforcing other areas of her body with haki, leaving her open to the flail end of the silver whip.

The hit alone already sent her spinning through the air, but the whip's special property caused the spot to start glowing and bloat before exploding into a ball of flames.

Cursing up a storm in her mind, Juniper rushes out of the smoke and fire with an expression of fury and pain.

The hit arm barely hung on some charred flesh and bone as a huge chunk got blasted apart.

'At least I didn't fucking pop like a balloon.' She thought, taking solace in the fact that she did not instantly die before using a trick she figured out over the fight after getting impaled twice already.

Using the ability of her clothing to freely change, she turned it into bandages that wrap around the arm and covers the wound, additionally to securing it in place so that it won't just fall off when she moved to fast.

She had done something similar to the hole in her thigh and stomach.

Royally pissed at Belmont for almost blowing off her arm, she tries out something new.

Grabbing herself with psychokinesis, the moth launches at the guy.

Adjusting her position mid-flight, Juniper fly's feet first at Trevor, and dropkicks him in the stomach, sending him crashing into a tree.
