Chapter 30 - Is God There?

Chapter 30 - Is God There?

"Whew... whew" Zack took a deep breath after escaping from the bee.

Leaning back, he tried to catch his breath and energy. "That scary presence couldn't be a high-level bee; could it be an elite bee?"

His eyes sparkled as he thought about this. 'If it's an elite beast, then it means that they exist. Even so, that power was too immense; I doubt that even if I maximize my strength, I won't be able to give it a battle.

Besides, I don't see any gain in sacrificing myself since it will give me the same as the other beasts.'

As he regained his energy, he remembered that he had gotten a new tattoo.

He couldn't take off his clothes to find out where it was, so he decided he would save it for later, but the AI interrupted.

[*The tattoo was placed on his back after you eliminated the bee*]

After he knew where his tattoo was located, he directed his energy to the back and activated the tattoo.

A bee-shaped mist manifested and flew to his back and turned into two pairs of wings.

"Wow" was all he could say.

Flying was the dream of many, but unless you were strong enough to control your energy and fly, you would need a skill.

The wings were made of energy. It looked like a mirage on his back.

Soon his face fell. 'I look like a fairy with these wings; what will other people think when they see a devil with fairy wings?'

Anyway, he couldn't do anything, so he accepted the wings. Besides, they would be of great help to him, now he would be able to move without expending energy, and what's more, he would be able to fly.

[*If the master allows me, I can analyze the wings' code and reform it by making a new model.]

"How could I not think of it," he said quietly, though, in truth, he had relied very little on the AI. Still, it was always there at the necessary times.

'What can you do?'

[*Changing the design of the wings is possible with the current level of the master, but it's the only thing possible at the moment*]

'Well, you can do it. I want some bat wings' he was excited about the idea of changing the wings.

[*Rewriting code...*]

[*Estimated time... 21 hours*]

"What, why does it take longer than healing my body?" He thought he could change it in no time, but he would have to wait.

[*Power is external to the master. Therefore, it consumes more energy and is not as easy to modify as your body, which is a code itself*]

'Anyway, I don't have all the day' He stood up from the ground and dusted himself off as he took position and flapped his wings.

The wings were like part of his body after syncing up, so he flapped hard and took off at full speed.

*Crack!

A tree creaked after Zack crashed into it at full speed after taking off.

"Agh, my head... It seems that, even though the wings feel like part of my body, I have yet to learn how to manoeuvre them."

Flapping again, he took off again, albeit slower than the last time.

He moved through the trees at a considerable speed while getting his body used to change direction and leaning when necessary.

The practice went wonderfully. He had been flying for an hour and felt more ease in controlling the wings.

"Time to accelerate."

Flapping a little faster, he flew deeper into the forest near the treetops.

Although he could fly, he stayed inside the forest because he could quickly encounter flying beasts outside the trees, although he avoided the beasts.

*** 5 hours later ***

The sun was already beginning to set, and darkness was creeping closer and closer.

'The shelters always close at night, and hardly anyone comes out of them' Zack didn't understand why this was happening, and even if he asked, they all said the same thing.

"You can't say their names, or you will die; if you are out after 6 hours night falls, you will die."

This started after arriving at the shelter, and he didn't really understand what they meant; he dawned at the top of a tree.

Maybe whatever it is, people are afraid of crawls on the ground.

He took out his magic tablet from school, which he had still kept and opened the map.

'I'm just a little over halfway there. How much further do I have to go.'

After a while, slowing down, he looked around and managed to spot a branch connected with others and created a space wide enough for a group to make camp.

He landed on the branches, and taking a good look around, he picked up some small branches and used them to make a sort of leaf walls.

"Time to rest."

He pulled out packed meat, which he kept in his space storage and began to eat. Inside this space, flesh doesn't rot or lose its temperature, so the food was still warm.

As he ate his leftover, succulent meat, a voice echoed through the forest.

"Help!" the voice seemed to be a girl's.

Zack walked over to one of the walls of leaves he had created and moved some to look down.

He could see a girl who had brown skin and long ears being chased by three green beast-men.

Their bodies were stout and their faces round, while some fangs protruded from their mouths.

"Orcs", he commented under his breath.

"Sigh... I guess I'll just have to do what any average person would do in a situation like this.

Staring intently at where they were headed, he flexed his neck and then leaned back.

"Not meddling in things that are none of my business; that's what any reasoning person would do."

[*I think it would be the opposite*]

'You haven't lived much yet, so you don't know about these things, watch me and learn', He said with a smile.

Soon the screams disappeared into the forest, and Zack continued to lie down. He was drifting off to sleep when the same noise sounded again.

Opening his eyes again and covering his ears, he waited for them to leave again.

'Well, they're gone, now if you'll just let me sleep...' Before he could continue his thought, the same girl came by again, calling for help.

The afternoon passed with the noise of the girl calling for help. Patience was almost wearing on Zack when suddenly the noise stopped just below the tree where he was standing.

"Why didn't you come out to help me?"

A voice was heard forcefully from the leaves. It was the same voice of the girl who had spent the afternoon begging for help.

Zack pulled out his arc and charged energy as he pointed it toward where the voice was heard.

"Don't shoot, don't shoot."

Zack was surprised to learn that the girl knew he was aiming a bow at her. Hands slowly reached through the leaves, and the girl stepped inside. "Can I stay here?"

"Who are you, and how did you know I was here?" he asked, still pointing the bow at the girl.

With a slightly shy and frightened look, she answered. "I could sense your presence here, so that's why I came by many times asking for help. Still, you didn't come out to help me shamelessly."

An electric arrow passed by the girl's face cutting a tiny hair.

"Watch your words. I have no obligation to help you."

The girl trembled as tears streamed down her face. Zack thought nothing of it, so he asked.

"Why were those orcs chasing you?"

The girl hesitated to speak but saw that he had another arrow pointed at her. 'Did I fall into a worse place?" she thought.

"First, let me introduce myself; my name is Mia belonging to the night elf tribe. I was a team with the orcs you saw and another orc leader; we were hunting when we discovered something buried."

The girl's face became a bit serious when she said this, and she continued speaking.

"We saw a body with 6 wings, 6 faces and 6 arms. Which, despite being buried, kept its colour and had a scroll in its hand. Everyone tried to take the clothes and equipment it was carrying, but no matter how hard they tried, they could not.

I took the parchment, which did come off, and between all of us, we opened it. Inside ... Inside was a map and a note that said, Is God there?"

Zack's face grew a little grim. Gods could only be called those who had reached their peak in power, but this spoke more about a god in general.

'What is this?'
