Chapter 6

Chapter 6

On the third day, I spent most of my morning training my throwing weapon proficiency while creating several traps. I now had a better understanding of how to use my momentum to enhance my attacks, drew the darts faster or threw a few darts at once.

Another thing that I noticed was that I was rather inaccurate with throwing darts. At around 15 meters, it became luck to hit a tree branch.

But after a few hours of training, the throwing weapon proficiency and urchin darts or wire trap still didn't increase. Did I miss something or I didn't spend enough time to train it?

Either way, after resting for a while to replenish my photon, with a determined face, I left the open area and once more entered the jungle, searching for another suitable campsite. I sneaked down between the treeline, moving across the trees while avoiding any bushes or grasses that could make an unnecessary sound.

After walking for some time, I arrived at another thinner part of the jungle and around 10 meters from my current location I could see another Episoth tree, but I was stunned to see a fat human-sized green baboon had been picked the fruits clean.

It clearly didn't show any interest towards me and only looking at me with a lazy glance while burping and scratching its stomach.

Maybe it was a herbivore or the baboon was full that was what I thought on the first hand. But I didn't forget about my plan of remaining relatively calm in the face of danger.

Taking a deep breath, I decided to circle the area and avoiding the green baboon but...

As soon as I turned around, I could hear a sound of something broken down. My brain telling me to jump away but my body couldn't keep up with my brain. I only shifted my body and stupidly watched a pointy branch grazing through my neck.

Blunder... what a total blunder. I could only think that as I felt blood seeping out of the graze on my neck right side.

As my left hand was holding the wound, I heard the sound of something big had just fallen to the ground.

I turned around and saw the baboon was lazily walking toward me, burping as its eyes clearly showing the main course had arrived.

I glared at the baboon, raised my hand and channelled photon into his palm, preparing an urchin dart. I had discovered that I didn’t actually need to say anything out loud to use it, just concentrate and channel the photon inside my body.

And I could create it either on my left or right hand or in my pocket, and I didn't need to create all 10 of them at once.

The blue lines slowly formed into 3 darts between my finger, taking almost 3 seconds to condense. The casting time for each dart was one second but sometimes I could shorten a little bit of the casting time, though I didn't know the exact trigger for this condition; hopefully I would find it in the future.

I threw forward 3 darts in a mostly straight direction, slamming into the baboon’s muzzle. "Tsk." I clicked my tongue as  I realized it still too hard for me to actually hit a small and moving target without the help of luck.

But almost immediately, the baboon eyes went wide and it seemed to be enraged by my action. It then turned its eyes towards me, which began to glow red. It opened its mouth and roaring for a few seconds; the roar itself wasn't scary but it was loud enough to make the blood on my neck gushing out.

If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

Finally, its hand grabbed a chunk of rock and threw it directly to my face. But this time I was prepared, on the moment its hand grabbed the rock I already prepare myself to leap away.

Hearing the crackling sound behind my back, I didn't need to look back to know a hole was created on the tree behind me.

"...If the rock hit me." I muttered as my face went blue.

Though, turning around and running away wasn't the best option either, as it would be hard for me to avoid the baboon attacks. And considering it had the baboon appearance, climbing the tree wasn't an answer either.

Creating another 3 darts, this time I sprinted in a circle, not even stopping for a moment. Though my accuracy dropped drastically as soon as I doing this running and throwing tactics. On the other hand, the baboon attacks couldn't hit me either.

As I watched from 3 darts only 1 of them hit the baboon head, sometimes all of them totally missed. I changed my target and decided to hit the baboon wider side.

Agitated and noticed its attacks didn't work. The baboon started charging toward me and it had incredible speed either, though I wasn't running around for nothing.

As soon as the baboon's feet touching the ground and crushing a cube that I'd scattered around. A vine appeared from the cube and immediately constricted the baboon's feet, making the baboon completely immobilized from the location of the trap.

Yes, it was the snare trap. There were several options to set the trap though, such as adding a leash, in which case the target was limited to the length of the leash or if there was a tall object or structure nearby, I could have the trap lifted the target. Though I needed to spend a few seconds or minutes to set the trap in that way. Either way, the traps that I scattered were a normal snare trap.

Without thinking too much, I immediately raining the baboon with darts, shifting it to bone throwing knife when the darts creation process started. And after twenty or more darts the baboon slowly fell to the ground.

Just to make sure, I threw several bone throwing knives to check whether or not it really dead... and the baboon wasn't moving around.

The moment I realized it was dead, I sighed and collapsed on the ground. Shivering, I once more realized how close I was to death while I remained here. And the worst part was that I had only been attacked once by a branch, and by the time I checked my health, it still did 8 damage to me.

Not to mention the bleeding couldn't stop either.

Though, it was at this moment I remembered about the monomed. It might be a waste to take this pill, but I didn't want to die because of infection.

Without hesitation, I took the monomed out of the dimensional storage and gulping it down. It didn't have a taste, but I could feel the warmness feeling on my neck and by the time I noticed it the wound was closing.

I couldn’t help grinning slightly by the effect of monomed. No... the truth was I smiled because I had survived and it did feel good to living and breathing.

And without feeling remorse or guilt, this time I absorbed the green baboon for 135 experience. And once again, I level up.

After collecting some of the useable bone throwing knives and regretting the fact I couldn't take the snare trap once I had set them down. I decided to climb the tree, resting while thinking what status I should spend at.

I decided, for now, it was Constitution and Agility.

Id: TRA-HMA-HOS-1000043667 Race: Terran [Humanoid] Cosmos Credit: 120 General Level: 3 Augmentation: Techer I Citizen Rank: ZZZ Health: 34 Photon: 20/30 Force: 14 Regen/minute: 0.5 Regen/minute: 0.7 Regen/minute: 0.5 Condition: Exhausted. Raising Constitution also increased my health by 6 points, while the Agility was the same as before.

"But... That was probably too close." I muttered while making a mental note and simulation on my last encounter.

Fourth, I shouldn't turn my back on my enemy.

Fifth, I should wisely use my resources.

Sixth, the one that attacked first would have a bigger advantage, physically and morally.
