ENTRY 019: The Potion Hoarder

ENTRY 019: THE POTION HOARDER

Dear Diary,

You’d think knights would have a better sense of practicality, but today’s customer proved otherwise.

A knight clanked into the shop, resplendent in dented armor that had clearly seen better days (or even months). Behind him, a cart loaded with several wooden crates groaned under its weight.

“I’ve come to sell these,” he announced, gesturing grandly to the crates. He pried open a crate, revealing dozens—no, hundreds—of shimmering golden potions, neatly packed in straw.

“Full Elixirs,” he declared. “Potions of complete restoration. Heal any wound, cure any ailment, restore your strength to its peak.”

"I know what they are!" I stopped him. Truth be told, I rarely if ever saw a Full Elixir in the wild like that. I stared at the glowing bottles, then at him, then back at the bottles. “And you’re selling them because…?”

If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

The knight shrugged. “Don’t need them anymore.”

I blinked. “You don’t need them?”

“Completed my quest,” he said, puffing out his chest. “Slayed the dragon, rescued the princess, reclaimed the kingdom. The usual.”

I frowned. “But if you had these, why didn’t you use them during your quest? You look like you got smacked around by a troll with a grudge.”

The knight shrugged nonchalantly. “Was saving them for later.”

I stared at him, trying to process this. “So you hoarded hundreds of full-healing potions, saved them all for a hypothetical emergency that never happened, and now you’re selling them because your quest is over?”

He smiled and nodded. “Sure.”

It was one of those moments where I could only marvel at the sheer absurdity of adventurers.

After some negotiation, I bought the lot for a decent price. Full Elixirs are incredibly rare, and collectors and adventurers alike pay handsomely for them. But as the knight left, a question lingered in my mind: what if he’d just used a few of these potions during his quest? Would he have fewer dents in his armor? Fewer scars? Maybe even fewer near-death experiences?

Now I’ve got crates of Full Elixirs sitting in the backroom, and I’m debating whether to sell them or start hoarding them myself. After all, you never know when you’ll need one.

Yours in profit,

Garren
