(TOBI) CHAPTER 1: A HUNGRY AWAKENING
Tired eyes open to a dark room and the cold feeling of steel on his back
‘Wh…ere a…m I?’
“Subject is regaining consciousness.” A female robotic voice came out from above.
‘Sub..ject WHAT!!!’
Jolted awake by the dangerous realization that he was kidnapped by either psychos or insane scientists.
Rushing to rise up Tobi’s body was dragged back down by straps tied around his body. It was then he realised that he was clad in a green medical gown and stripped naked.
“Administering test 1: 100 joules of electricity”
“ARGHHH!!!”
The body lit up in pain as volts of electricity travelled through it, steam rose up as flesh burned. Pain, mind numbing pain filled Tobi’s mind. His eyes could only see white as he spasmed helplessly but with each second the pain lessens and unknown to him. His muscles started changing becoming accustomed to the pain and started insulating itself.
After a few moments of pure agony he could finally feel the change. There were no words to describe as his muscles and bone shifted becoming denser.
‘What’s going on???’
Looking down, his eyes widened as he saw a thin layer of bone growing out of his skin. His slightly overweight stomach shrinks as the body converts fat and whatever resource available to form the armour. A deep hunger settled in his mind and a primal desire started to creep over.
“Subject PWXI.001 is now showing signs of mutation. Increasing voltage.”
‘Mutation!!’
Realistaion entered his pain and hunger filled mind, but before he could dwell more on the new information arcs of purple electricity danced sprang to life. The entire bed was lit up, the smell of ozone and burning flesh filled the room.
“Arrgh!!!”
Screams of pain filled the room, his mind blanked instinct took over. Bone segments sprouted through his body shredding the gown. Struggling the restraints started to strain at the growing power of the young man. Sleek white bone covered the face concealing asaian features and jet black hair behind a menacing skeletal helmet..

“Subject mutation appears to be the formation of bone-like armour. Sensors indicate an increase in muscle density. Subject is steadily developing a resistance to electricity.”
The restraints were ripped to shreds as bone like blades formed on Tobi’s forearms. Dropping to the ground, the freed captive started running towards the cell door. It was thick and looked like a smaller vault door from a bank.
“Subject has escaped restraints, code blue. Agents are to prioritise retrieval of the subject”
Dread welled up within the young man but it was not from the foreboding words of the motone female or the possibility of being attacked by armed guards. No, the source of his worry was the fact that he was not in control of his body.
Helpless, he was a prisoner in his own body as it lashed out punching dents into the door. Despite the door caving in slightly it still held strong.
“Subject has shown signs of enhanced strength.”
Tobi’s left arm was pulled back and it started shaking. The limb grew smaller as resources in the body were converted to form a new weapon. The bone armour grew and gathered around the limb. The new weapon reminded Tobi of a certain ninja from an anime.
“Subject’s mutation has evolved past estimated parameters… permission of lethal force is denied.”
The drill slammed into the door, ripping it to shreds.
“Director’s prime orders are to secure the subject alive.”
Escaping the room, Tobi watched as his body ran through a long hallway. Alarms blared filling the corridor with red light, by his side were locked vaults. Whether they had occupants like him or not Tobi was unable to regain control to check.
At the end of the hallway was a lift, as he drew close it opened. The cocking of guns was all he heard before a volley of gunfire filled the room. Instead of blocking, the armored teen just ran through the gunfire. Adrenaline pumping through the brain, Tobi watched in slow motion as his body ran through a path with the least amount of bullets.
To the shooting men they steeled themselves as they fired at will, the glowing red eyes of the young man made him easier to target.
Pieces of his armour were chipped away from the bullets but none of the hits were vital. Blood spilled through the hallway, as the young men drew his arm back to skewer men clad in black armour. Wearing face masks there were no symbols on their body, giving no means of identification.
Whatever armor the men wore, they were of no help as the drill ran through them. As they brandished stun batons and tried to melee the youth with their guns. Electricity sparked on Tobi’s right hand and unleashed stored up energy he had endured.
Moments later the men crumpled down on the elevator’s floor. Any relief, Tobi might have felt as the bone mask’s lower section dislocated.
‘No… no.’ The hunger was starting to overwhelm him, Tobi started to struggle harder.
Teeth grew and his eyes focused on the dead and dying men before turning to the dead man impaled upon his drill arm.
‘I refuse to be a cannibal!!’ As a fanged mouth was about to bite the man’s throat. Tobi’s right hand landed a bone crushing blow smashed into the jaw. Sending the young man slumping against the elevator’s wall.
Kicking the corpse off the arm, Tobi struggled to keep the left hand down. The internal struggle was straining the youth and the hunger was starting to engulf him.
Then the entire base shook, the floor shifted and a roaring explosion came from below the elevator shaft. The force of the explosion sent the elevator flying up the shaft. The sturdy material which made it up held for a moment before cracks started to appear.
“A category 5 earthquake has struck the facility, All personnel are to follow evacuation procedures.”
Soon the quake passed and Tobi regained enough control to walk away from the body and used the drill to pry up the door. As he succeeded ripping apart an opening, the drill hit the closed door of a random level.
As the light of the new level shone upon him, the coughing of a dying man behind caused Tobi to look behind him.
“... Di..e mu...tant ..scum” Pulling the pin of a shining high tech looking grenade the hateful glare of the man was burned into Tobi’s mind alongside the explosion that ripped apart the man. Like a chain reaction the explosives of the other members went off sending Tobi flying through the opening. The force of the explosion was strong enough to send him through the various walls before slamming into a cold place.
Grunting Tobi pushed through the pain and forced himself to stand, the floor was metalic and he could barely keep his eyes open. The light in the room was still red from alarms placed around the room but it was mostly white. The smell of cooked meat and a combination of other smells entered his nostrils and he turned behind him.
At first Tobi assumed it was hunger induced hallucination but as he drew closer to the scent a small laugh escaped his bloody mouth.
‘My luck is weird’
The explosion had sent him hurling into the cafeteria.
