Chapter 4: First Raid 01

Chapter 4: First Raid 01

According to the scout team, the cave was mostly empty, but Emily checked with her power. There wasn’t too much vegetation inside, but she could still feel something thanks to some vines in the cracks all around her. The path was straight.

"About twelve or thirteen wolves. One of them is much bigger than the rest."

"That one is probably the leader. We should kill him fast if possible; maybe the rest would run away if we do that." Tomas rubbed his chin as he moved forward. He was in the center as the leader, ready to give commands.

He was holding one of the swords that Jack made using his power. It was dark and possibly made with iron; no one could tell as they didn’t work with metal in their everyday jobs.

"Let’s keep going." He whispered to the ones at his side, and they passed the message to the support group.

Silas was still feeling bitter for being ignored and relegated without anyone consulting him on how to proceed with the raid. His knowledge as a PvP master was being wasted by ignorant companions once again. There was only one reason for him to stay in this group.

Survival If he tried to flee, the others could turn against him and deal with him before proceeding inside the cave. There was no way for him to defeat a whole guild on his own. The only other option was to pretend to be helpful by doing the least amount of work possible.

I just need to hang in the back and hold the sword like a training dummy. If things go bad, I’ll just run as fast as possible into the forest. They’ll be too tired and wounded to try and follow me.

It is not like he wanted them to die. Although he talked in videogame terms, the experience with the bear had shown him this world was very real. Jacob stopped at his side as the guys in front did too.

All the way in the front, Tomas was making a sign with his open hand. This was the moment of truth. He could see the opening into a large cave. If he was in charge, he would have sent a group of people with abilities to hide their presence to start the attack, or maybe since they were fighting wolves, something to mask their scent or see if any could prepare items or consumables to cause damage to beasts.

There were still too many variants. He couldn’t ask them to see their powers since dear Tomas told them to only use them in emergencies. He watched Tomas close his hand and then a loud scream.

"Attack!" he charged forward with the group.

Seriously, is that your plan? Just go in and announce our presence. If you had some type of crowd control power, I could understand, but this?

He was fuming with anger at the display of terrible tactics. The wolves came from the ruins of the small village. He couldn’t spare too much attention to the place, but it was just as they reported. Those were houses very similar to the pictures he had seen in books during history class. It was the leftovers of a civilization.

The battle began without trouble. The group had the advantage against the animals. They were in a semi-circular formation. No beast could come too close or would incur the risk of being stabbed by at least three others nearby. The wolves were only interested in moving around and looking for a weak spot to attack.

"Quick advance before they can group up!" Tomas ran forward and, with a decisive strike, pierced a wolf in the back. The blood oozed out. He had killed one of the beasts.

Cheering and words of encouragement grew louder in the cave as the first kill was for their side. A couple more wolves fell as they tried to flee. Tomas and the attack group were feeling confident that soon the wolves would be dead and they could take this cave.

"From over there, the leader of the pack!" His attention moved to where Emily pointed. From behind a ruined house, a wolf came, but he was different.

All the other wolves had grey fur, but the leader was blue. Not only that, but his size was considerably larger. Emily couldn’t see very well with her ability in this cave because of the lack of plants. She only assumed it was a bit larger than the rest. It was twice as big compared to the rest of them.

In games, developers frequently reuse the same models and assets to create variants of creatures. When they were particularly lazy, they only changed the size or the color. He was feeling that sensation. Is just a stronger wolf, then why am I getting a bad feeling?

He couldn’t explain it. Silas often had trouble expressing his emotions, but after finding games, he started to use similar terms to describe his own thinking. If he had to describe the sensation in game terms, it would be... This wolf is too high level for us.

The beast began to advance with his fangs exposed. The rest of the pack followed him and waited for his attack.

"Keep the formation is just a bigger wolf, nothing more!" Tomas yelled to help them calm down, but the next thing he saw was a massive mouth about to swallow his face.

He dodged by a hair and the mouth reached the guy at his side. The fangs bit into the tender flesh and blood exploded everywhere.

"AAAAAHHHHH!" the guy screamed in pain as he tried to grab his wounded chest. He was still being held in the mouth of the wolf. Blood came out of his mouth as he desperately tried to live. The claw of the beast pushed him down, cutting the body in two.

"Aaaaauuuuuuhhhhhh!" a powerful howl echoed in the cave. followed by the rest of the pack. It wasn’t just for show, it was a skill.

Silas felt his heart about to be crushed by the fear. A giant premonition of death. His hands began to sweat, and his legs shook uncontrollably, like a scared little kid. This was beyond fear; it was terror.

M-M-Mental attack... fear! He looked around at his companions, who were all being affected by the attack to a different degree. Not only that, but he saw how a small aura around the other wolves covered their bodies. A skill t-to inflict fear on enemies a-and buffs on allies. How wicked, he u-use it after killing one of u-us for maximum e-effect.

The pack pounced forward. This time, the guys in front took too long to react. The hungry mouths bit two of them before they could react. The formation was broken, and panic took the reins.

Jack, the guy that created the swords with his power, was faced with a wolf. The fear was too much for him to handle, and the swords vanished. He’s too scared t-too keep his ability working.

"Stop!" Jack screamed as two wolves bit his arms off and then his neck. Without weapons, the battle had taken a turn for the worse. It was time to run. He should have run by now without looking back, but his legs refused to move.

"Don’t lose hope! I’ll take care of the alpha wolf!" Tomas didn’t have a weapon, and yet he confidently walked forward. His eyes turned dark and a mysterious aura came from his body. It had only one intention: to kill the wolf.

"Die!" He raised his hand and began to bleed from his nose. At the same time, the blue wolf's body began to twist. It was like he was being crushed by an invisible wall.

"AAAARRRGGH!" The wolf vomited blood, but he was still moving. On the other hand, Tomas was also bleeding a lot from his nose, eyes, and mouth. The wolf howled again, and this time it was a signal for his pack to attack.

All the others jumped at Tomas. He had to focus on them, and with a motion he killed three more. "Ugh!" more blood came from his mouth as he kneeled on the ground.

The wolves bit into his flesh and tore his suit into shreds. The chunks of meat and blood flew everywhere. As the looks of despair fell on him, Tomas raised his hand and crushed all the wolves around him into a pulp. The leader took a stance, but Tomas was already dead.

He was in the middle of the group as a bloody corpse, missing an arm and leg. His eyes were empty, and his eyes had popped out of their sockets. His last act as leader was to kill the rest of the wolves. Some may think this was worth it, but the blue wolf was still alive.

With a quick jump, it came forward, killing the last members of the attack group. There was no mercy as his whole pack had been killed. The blue wolf was going to kill them all. Silas watched as the beast turned them into small pieces of meat under the power of his fangs and claws. He noticed a woman in the back running away. That’s exactly what he should have done long ago.

The wolf noticed, and suddenly he turned into a flash of blue moving across the cave. In a moment, he had caught up with the woman and bit her leg with such force that he split her in half.

There is no way out. He’s decided to kill us, beginning with those who try to escape. Now that he’s blocking the only exit, the only option is to do a suicide charge with all of us and maybe a few can escape.

No, that’s just unrealistic. We came here and killed his whole family. That movement wasn’t normal. He must have a skill to increase his speed. There is no way to escape, unless someone can teleport. My only chance is to kill it!

He knew that, but it was easier said than done. The fear was still chaining his legs to the ground. His arms were shaking and just hanging at his side. The wolf bared his fangs again and jumped at him.

Move, move, move, move, move, move! Like a deer watching headlights, he just stood there waiting for death... Bang, bang. Two shots came from the left, and the wolf dodged nimbly.

It was Jacob who saved his life, and he didn’t stop there. He continued to fire at the beast, who jumped across the cave to avoid him. He didn’t take his eyes off the wolf. The moment he had him in his sight, he shot again. "Silas, didn’t you want to show off? This is the time. What should we do to win!"

Everyone looked at Silas. Maybe it was the panic or the terrible situation, but they only wanted to live. Yes, living was a common goal. He bit his teeth and raised his hand.

Using all his rage and desperation, he aimed at the wolf, and fur grew on his body, with claws and fangs instead of teeth. He felt not only the physical power of the wolf but also its skills inside his body now.

[Call of the pack] "Everyone, use your power. Don’t hold back and follow my orders! That’s the only way for us to win!" His words cleared the fear and doubt in their hearts because he used the same skill the wolf used during his first howl.

It's power. It was the same with the bear. I can use his power against him. He still has some of the physical power and he could feel the ability to move faster in his body. He just used the first one to remove the fear from his companions. If I can move fast for a moment, I need to make it count.

Time to change the flow.
