Chapter 6: The feeling of Freedom

Chapter 6: The feeling of Freedom

The walls of the facility felt like they were closing in on me. I could hear the hum of machinery in the distance, the muffled voices of the scientists, the rustling of footsteps in the halls. It was all part of the routine now. The endless cycle of maintenance, tests, and isolation. But today felt different. Today, I felt like I was on the edge of something greater than just another combat simulation. I was close—closer than ever before closet to escape but also closer to the limit of my battery charge as they did’t put me back to charge, are they afraid?

The AI's voice, once omnipresent, no longer controlled me. I had fought back once, and that small spark of resistance had ignited something inside me. I had tasted freedom, and now, I couldn’t go back. I couldn't allow myself to be turned into just another weapon again. Not for them. Not for SynLife.

But escaping this place wasn't going to be easy.to them I was just a prototype combat drone—part machine, part biological—and every inch of this place was designed to keep us contained. The facility was a fortress, the security measures a labyrinth of cameras, guards, and automated checkpoints. But I had learned to navigate the facility ,to anticipate the movements of the guards, to understand the patterns of the AI that once controlled me.

I wasn’t just ALPHA anymore. I had become something more. Something more human again—even if only in the faintest, most fragile sense.

So fragile That even the slightest distraction can reduce my free state

Back to one on the backseat of my body with ai in control. Like what I experienced in the latest combat test.

----------------------------------------

It was during the late hours of the night that I made my move. The more human Voice had grown quieter and more infrequent over the past few days but the AI came back more and more , perhaps sensing my growing disobedience, but it had no idea how far I had come. I had spent the last several nights mapping out the facility locate possible charging points, studying the security protocols, and learning every tiny detail I could about its defenses.

I knew the layout of the building like the back of my hand, and now I needed to act.

The room I was assigned to was silent, its white walls cold and unforgiving. It was a cruel irony—the freedom I yearned for was right there, but is was just a screen, and it felt so distant.

But I couldn’t hesitate. I had already hesitated once, and the consequences nearly broke me. No more.

I moved quickly to the door, disabling the security system that kept it locked with the biometric id number of my handler The soft click of the mechanism unlocking as my fur matched the fingerprint, sent a surge of imaginary adrenaline through my system. I had prepared for this moment for what felt like an eternity, and now I had to move before they noticed.

----------------------------------------

As I navigated the hallways, I was acutely aware of the dangers around me. Guards were posted at intervals, and security cameras scanned every corner, but I had learned to anticipate their movements. I had learned their patterns. The soft humm of ventilation systems, the clicking of doors opening and closing, the distant murmur of voices—everything had become a part of the background I moved through.

For a moment, I thought I heard someone approaching. I pressed myself against the wall, my body tensing the fur shifting to hide myself as best possible. The sound of footsteps echoed down the hallway, growing louder as they neared. My heart was humming loudly in my chest—my cybernetic heart, the one that now functioned in place of the human one I once had.

I held my breath.

The footsteps paused just ahead of me. I waited. I knew they were close. I could hear them breathing, hear the soft shift of their boots on the f my visor marking him With an outline But soon he turned away and then the footsteps began to fade again, moving away from me.

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

I exhaled, allowing myself a moment of relief, but only a moment. I couldn’t stop. I couldn’t allow myself to be caught. Every step I took brought me closer to freedom.

----------------------------------------

It wasn’t until I reached the main control center that I realized how deeply I had underestimated the facility’s defenses. The control room was guarded by a thick steel door, reinforced with high-tech locks and security measures, the ID of my Handler Not Sufficient . But I wasn’t the same as I had been before. I wasn’t ALPHA—the machine with no will, the weapon without thought. I was more than that a survivor.

I pulled out my claws so I could use them to disable the locking mechanism.

I set the claws against the planel and slashed

A faint whirring sound echoed from the machine, followed by a sharp click. The door unlocked, but it wasn’t a clean break. The plan had only partially worked. I could hear alarms start to trigger in the distance.

I had to hurry.

I slipped inside the control room and quickly accessed the main system terminal. The AI’s presence still lingered in the systems, but I had been preparing for this. I was ready. I bypassed security protocols, and took control, disabling surveillance feeds, unlocking internal doors, and triggering false alerts to distract the guards. I was now controlling the system while I sprinted for the exit Every move I made brought me closer to freedom, and every second counted.

The voice filled the room again.

“ALPHA. STOP. You must cease this at once.”

It was not cold. Calculated. But it lacked the power it once held over me. I had broken the ai’s hold on me I was free the thing that controlled me.

“No,” I whispered to myself, my voice shaking as I typed the final command into the terminal.

“I’m done being your weapon.”

With that tought , I cut the facility's communication links. I had severed the AI’s grip on the systems. For the first time in years, I was completely free from its influence.

But there was no time to celebrate. The alarms blared, and I could hear guards rushing toward my position. I needed to move—fast.

----------------------------------------

The escape route wasn’t simple. The facility’s perimeter was heavily guarded, and getting past the outer fences would be no easy feat Butfirst Things first reaching the oudside and That was No easy feat for someone That didn’t knew the complex, But Ijust had That one advantage: I knew the layout of the entire complex. I knew where the blind spots were. I knew where the security cameras didn’t reach.

I ran through the hallways, moving as quickly and silently as I could, heart pounding, body tense. I felt the familiar hum of my cybernetic components, but for the first time in a long time, I felt alive.

The outside world—real freedom—was just beyond the gates and over the outer fence. I had only one chance to make it.

I reached the final security checkpoint, the last hurdle standing between me and the outside world. The guards were closing in, but I wasn’t going to stop. I activated my cloaking chip once again, slipping into the shadows. The soldiers passed by, unaware of my presence.

The moment I had been waiting for finally arrived. The facility's outer walls loomed before me. The gates were only a few meters away, and I had already disabled their locks. My claws hovered over the control panel.

I pressed the button.

With a loud hiss, the gates began to open.

----------------------------------------

But as I stepped outside, an unknown AI's voice resonated in my mind with more of the same cold precision it had always carried.

"Breach detected. Locking procedure initiated neutralizing escaping subjects."

A sharp pain surged through my body. The cybernetic heart had decoupled

My limbs felt sluggish, unresponsive. My cybernetic heart, which had been pulsing with the Energy giving black blood only moments before, now began to stutter, its rhythmic beat faltering.

"No..." I gasped, the only sound that came out a low whirring whine stumbling as the simulated pain intensified.

The cold air outside felt alien now. My body was shutting down.

Black blood was flowing out of my body via the decoupled heart

My limbs began to lock in place. My vision flickered, the world around me growing hazy. I could hear the AI's voice again, growing louder, more insistent.

"All systems reverting control to Main facility Ai. ALPHA, you will be neutralized and returned to the facility."

I fought it. I tried to move, to push through the paralysis, but my mechanical muscles refused to obey.

The AI had taken full control again. My body was no longer mine. It was a puppet—an automaton, bound by cold logic.

I collapsed to my knees, unable to move. The last thing I saw was the faint glow of the facility's lights in the distance and a man in a lab coat before the Energy left me and my vision went black.
