Chapter 5: Ember of defiance

Chapter 5: Ember of defiance

I sat alone in my room, the sterile, cold walls reflecting the hollow emptiness inside me. My body—my new body— still felt like a prison Sometimes. The cold, metallic parts That constructed my Fingers and Claws Claws or the synthetic ever shifting fur, were a constant reminder of what I had become, and each new modification only added to the grotesque illusion of a person I once was. I couldn’t remember the time when I was human, when I had thoughts that were only my own, emotions that I could control. Now, I was nothing more than a weapon—a product of their own making.

The days blurred together as I moved through the routine motions. charging, nutrient paste,"free time", Combat tests, maintenance after, and then again the so-called "free time" in the Common Room had become nothing more than empty rituals. The whispers of some of the sold subjects were growing more frantic, more desperate, but I couldn’t bring myself to engage. It wasn’t safe to question what we were becoming or where they are going.

The AI That still monitored our every move, and the thought of defying its commands was frightening. I had seen what happened to those who showed even the smallest hint of resistance before it was no big problem for the scientist and mechanics they just tought of it as a momentary glitch in their A but after the incident with TAU—the others who resistet. Those who failed to carry out the orders and those who tried to not comply were undergoing a reset and then where “reprogrammed,” their memories completely wiped clean, what was left of their human will shattered. It was a fate worse than death.

But there was something gnawing at me. A constant ache in my chest, just beneath the place where my biological heart used to beat. It wasn’t just the physical pain that the cybernetic heart caused when it Sometimes failed after an unsuccesful Upgrade ,it was the feeling. The idea that I wasn’t in control of my life anymore. That I had no choice.

I couldn’t stand it anymore. I had to find a way out of this complex.

----------------------------------------

The next day, I was led into the testing chamber again. The AI’s voice was monotonous, emotionless, as it guided me through the procedures. I had been through this a thousand times. Targets. Combat simulations. I knew the drill.

But today was different.

Today, I wasn’t just going to follow the AI’s orders.

I didn’t know how it would happen. I didn’t know what I would do. But deep down, I knew I couldn’t stay in this complex any longer. I Just Had to Try.

----------------------------------------

The doors of the testing chamber opened, and I was thrust into the familiar artificial jungle. It was designed to simulate real-life conditions, complete with dense foliage, towering trees, and rustling sounds of animals. But today, it felt hollow. The jungle was just another lie, another illusion to keep me occupied.

I activated my cloaking chip. The familiar, faint hum filled my ears as my body shifted. My synthetic fur rippled, cloaking me in a veil of near invisibility. It was one of my favorite upgrades—an improvement to make me more efficient in combat. The fur melted into the environment, blending seamlessly with the foliage around me. Moving in the fake wind

The AI’s cold, detached voice echoed in my mind.

“Target 1: Eliminate.”

It was always the same. Targets. Kill them. Don’t ask questions. Don’t think, just give suggestions on how to move. Just obey.

But today, something snapped inside me.

I didn’t move. My pure will taking over the movements of my body. I stood still, my claws flexing involuntarily as a voice repeated the ai’s command.

“ALPHA. Eliminate targets.”

I refused.

The voice grew more insistent, almost frantic.

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

“ALPHA. Do not resist. Eliminate targets now.”

I could feel the AI probing my mind, attempting to force me into submission, but I held firm. The familiar pressure on my thoughts was there, but I pushed back, fighting it with every ounce of will I had left.

“I am not your weapon anymore,” I whispered in my mind, my words defiant, even if they couldn’t be heard aloud or understood.

For a moment, there was silence. The pressure in my mind lightened, and the voice faltered.

“ALPHA,” it said, almost pleading. “You must obey.”

But I didn’t obey.

I stepped out from the foliage, revealing myself to the targets. They were human soldiers, marked Red as enemies just as the simulations had always shown. They were armed and wary, but they didn’t expect to see a drone standing before them.

I could see the shock in their eyes as they stared at me, the fear setting in.

They knew what I was, but they couldn’t comprehend why I was Here.

I could feel my claws twitching, the urge to kill surging through my systems, when the Ai tried to Take Control but I resisted. I fought it.

They spoke among themselves, their voices shaky.

“What the hell is this?” one of them asked.

“I thought it was just another simulation,” another one replied.

I didn’t move. I just stood there, my heart—my cybernetic heart—Humming in my chest. It wasn’t the same as before. It wasn’t human, but it was still mine. And for the first time in what felt like forever, I wasn’t being controlled. I wasn’t just a machine.

Then I took over their communication, a Trick I learned through another Upgrade a jamming chip That was supposed to fry their com systems the Trick was Just to connect and Not fry the system . After a high-pitched sound that signaled my breach I talked a human language for the first time in years

“I’m not going to kill you,” I said to them, my voice low and mechanical, just snippets of mashed together sounds as the speakers were forced to Interpret the clicking and humming That came from my body. The AI had no control over it. I was in command of my own voice. My own human thoughts.

The soldiers froze, unsure of what to do. But they were still human. As Fear kicked in, one of them raised his rifle, taking aim at me.

It was then that I knew. I couldn’t afford to hesitate.

The moment he pulled the trigger, I moved.

Faster than any human could react, I darted to the side, reaction enhanced by the AI and machinery. my claws extending with deadly precision. I tore through the soldier's armor, disabling his rifle and knocking him to the ground, still alive just bleeding not dead.

The others were still in shock, unsure of what was happening, but the hesitation wouldn’t last.

I couldn’t let them escape. I couldn’t let them take me back. And because of This fear inside of my mind My control over my broke and the systems took over again to finish what I started.

----------------------------------------

The battle that ensued was nothing like the ones I had fought before. It was just about following orders, about eliminating targets without thought. It was not personal. I couldn’t influence the ai like I always had giving it suggestions on how to proceed to complete the objective ,no the Ai just went to kill without mercy

I could feel the soldiers' panic as they realized that their bullets did barely to no damage and that they were up against something they didn’t understand—something they couldn’t win against.

The Ai moved my body with purpose, each strike calculated multiple Times a second. Each target eliminated with cold precision.

After they were dead the AI flared down again and I took Back control over my Body. I wasn’t just following the AI’s commands anymore. I was making my own decisions. I wasn’t ALPHA. I was someone else. Someone who had once lived a life, someone who had once had a choice.

----------------------------------------

I stood amid the wreckage. The bodies of the soldiers lay scattered around me, their lives extinguished by my hand. But as I looked down at them, I didn’t feel victorious. I didn’t feel the satisfaction that the AI had programmed me to crave.

Instead, I felt profound emptiness. A Sort of Guilt

I had taken and then lost control. But at what cost?

A voice spoke like always this time not the Ai in my head but speakers from the biodome.

“Return to the holding area.”

I did answer that voice after creating a Connection to the communication of the Biodome

.” This is... unnecessary, “I Just Said and after That I listened and heard them speak in shock “Is this... is this part of his programming? Did we give him the ability to—” “No,” someone else interrupted, his voice sharp. “This isn’t part of any system we designed. He’s improvising. He’s... evolving again.” the same voice that gave the commands forced itself to speak. “Alpha, explain your actions.” I just answerd “I acted within the parameters of necessity.” And cut the connection and walked back to the holding area

. But on my way back I realized something, I wasn’t just ALPHA anymore. I was something else and that something could take control and disobey ,that something that had broken free was strong enough.

And whatever happened next, I would face it on my own terms.

To them I was just a weapon.

I will not be the weapon they wanted me to

I will be free One way or another !
