Chapter 89: The Cure and Dependence

Chapter 89: The Cure and Dependence

“This should be enough.” When Han Lang examined the concentration of energy inside the honey, he felt relief.

No, to be exact he was surprised in his heart but did not show it directly. He only knew that the honey was delivered to this place by Manstein but he truly did not know the producer.

‘The rich energy it contained, the effect of the ordinary honey is beneficial enough and if added with this much energy I am sure the effect would multiply by a large degree.’

That was his evaluation. And after he thought that, Han Lang placed back the jar which contained the honey. He even doubted himself whether to supplement the honey with the medicinal herbs he had carried.

“To be honest, I'm not sure about this myself but even if a person consumes the honey directly they will feel the effect immediately. That is how powerful this honey is.”

Han Lang said to Yi Xiaodie. He at least experienced himself just how effective the thing called honey was. It was able to cure many diseases as if it was a first-class cure from mother nature.

At least even if the disease is still present, the honey can help the body to strengthen itself, creating a higher chance for natural recovery.

“Is that so?” Kexin smiled wryly as she did not know much just how effective the honey would be if she were to consume it directly.

“So it is more effective in effect?” with her pale face facing Han Lang, Yi Xiaodie wanted the confirmation herself.

“In theory, yes. But since Miss Yi had a little sparring a moment ago, you have to rest more often yes.” Han Lang shook his head when how said that.

He knew the reason. He saw it in that sickly beauties eyes an ‘unyielding to the condition’ character radiated out. But the way she did that could make things turned for the worse.

“Do you know that overexerting your body, especially with Black Plague disease can make it worse? I'm sure you already know about that.” Han Lang held his words, the thing that he really wanted to say.

“And the young man which sparred with you, remember him? He felt guilty after he found out that your body is weak. Even he requested to bring the honey back as his way of apology.”

Hearing this made Yi Xiaodie's eyes averted to another direction. She truly did enjoy the time she had sparred with him.

Perhaps it was because that young man was the son of the figure she personally admired or maybe because of her impression towards him as a person that made Yi Xiaodie could not forget that young man.

The young man in her mind had a large and wide build, with muscle emerged from his arms and legs, giving the impression that he was strong and indeed that was the fact.

‘Ye Qingcheng, what an interesting person he is.’

“Ah, Young Miss. Why did you look so happy just now?” asked Kexin as she took a closer look. When their eyes met, Yi Xiaodie had to admit that she thought deeper and longer than necessary.

That was why she immediately said with a smile, “It’s a small matter. Don't worry about it. But someone already told me about this, Doctor Han.”

“I see. He did not tell me and instead left immediately so I don't know.” Han Lang wanted to find somewhere to bury his head.

It meant that Han Lang just going redundant while he did not even know that! But he noticed the look Yi Xiaodie had at the moment and decided to pretend he did not see anything.

“If Young Miss said so. And what about adding the medicinal herbs to the honey? Will it become more effective?” Kexin asked Han Lang.

“Maybe just little to none even if I add the rest of my herbs as the rich energy it contained already potent.”Han Lang commented.

“One thing I'm sure is that the process takes about a month at the fastest to make a complete recovery. And during that period, the patient has to bear arduous pain from their body, every single hour. Is this fine with you?”

Despite knowing the answer, Han Lang had to confirm it. He would expect the tiresome and long therapy but if he could see someone was cured from it, he would be happy.

And so they began to cure the disease. The first thing Han Lang had to do was to see whether the honey was effective when consumed directly.

-

“So refreshing.” In a bath which already filled with thick mist and warm current, Manstein enjoyed himself.

The bath he used was filled with warm water and herbs mixed together. The smell the herbs produced truly helped his breathing technique as well as increasing the rate his body could absorb qi.

The pores on his body enlarged and let out sweat as well as allowed the pores to be able to get the energy in. Manstein closed his eyes, executed the breathing technique over and over again to familiarize himself.

Although he felt the temperature around him was warm but when he used the breathing technique, he felt a hot and scorching feeling inside his stomach. The heat was much higher than the room so he felt that this was the effect of the breathing technique.

“So far the effect is good. It's true that you are improving really fast interstage. I mean just look at the energy point you have now.” In her ethereal form, Alice could see through the body of Manstein as if looking at the entire side of a coin.

“Of course. Just look at the herbs the servant poured to the pool! It's rich in energy, enough for someone to increase their level.” Manstein knew that even though Xuan City was located in a rural place but that was also the caused why such herbs existed.

Because few people come and pluck the herbs, the quality and quantity of the herbs were secured. It was different on the large city though where the herbs that one could naturally find was rare. Not to mention the price the merchant tagged, even if the city really had various herbs from another place but the price would be high already.

“True. In the central region, the price of the herbs that mixed in your pool alone is enough to buy a Forged Weapon.” Commented Alice.

“Forged Weapon? Is that the weapon with a special enhancement to it? Isn't those weapons expensive?” Manstein exclaimed in surprised.

Forged Weapon was a weapon that already imbued with spirit circuit, like the glaive Ye Xiaobai had created. The addition of spirit circuit was not like the addition of one plus one equals two but rather like multiplication which multiplied the might of the user.

And the price for each Forge Weapon could accommodate ordinary people for a lifetime or to buy a large mansion with courtyard.

“It is expensive but if you can make it, the price is actually cheaper.” Said Alice.

“But first where are we going to? Even if my Intelligent Assistance Device has stored the map for an entire continent but I have no idea where we are going.” In the end, Manstein was not someone who knew everything.

“Well, that depends on the situation though but my first choice will be the mountain range near central region.” Said Alice in a serious tone.

“What are we going to do there? Given the situation, I'm afraid that the people from the central region will flood outside, to escape from the conflict.” Manstein did not want to do some pointless endeavor, therefore, he would avoid the potential of being messed up with another people.

“It is to help you, my senior, in regards to your strength. You said it yourself that your advancement between stage will be hard so I'm thinking about collecting some hidden stash before we are going away.”

Manstein just kept his mouth shut this time. In actual sense, both he and his family was supposed to go away from the entire continent but that could not be done so fast. Furthermore, he doubted that his foster father and uncle would go with him if they had to leave Xuan City.

‘How am I supposed to persuade them!? Even Alice doesn't have an artifact to bring the entire city nor she knows the location of Allway Dome.’ Manstein unconsciously grabbed his forehead.

To forget that for a time being, Manstein returned to his progress in his cultivation while taking a bath.

“I better see you like this rather than the ‘you’ who slaughter every person from that organization. Not to mention that when you did those acts, you are just a mere seven years old.” Alice bitterly smiled but she felt relieved just by seeing Manstein’s calm and tranquil face.

If you discover this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.

“Even if you are infertile, in my heart I will always...” just when she enjoyed the view of Manstein’s improvement, she could feel a fluctuation in energy and there were some traces of soulforce in the area of the city.

She frowned but when she detected the source of the fluctuation, Alice sighed in relief.

‘Looks like another patient with Black Plague will be cured. But I know that something must be happening from Yi family considering that the plague itself is already rare.’ Alice narrowed her eyes as she looked towards the direction where the clinic was.

Meanwhile, Han Lang tried his best to refine The Yellow Honey to be compatible to the effect of the cure.

‘The cure was found by my ancestor, Han Xiusi. All the time I study the anatomy of human, biological structure of living beings as well as the plants which can cure or kill someone, I always admire my ancestor and want to become just like him.’

A little array was found just beneath his body. While he thought like that, the jar which contained the honey was floating in the middle of the array above Han Lang's head. He raised his hands towards the jar as he channeled his qi to his hands with the combination of his soul force.

Han Lang’s hands let out a faint, beautiful green color while his finger moved as if configuring the best method to refine the honey.

The array and the hands let out the same green color as his finger moved slightly. The finger did not even touch the jar but always kept a distance near it. By the combination of qi and soul force as well as the array beneath his body, Han Lang could manipulate the internal workings of the honey to produce the exact same effect of the cure his ancestor had created.

‘Breaking Dawn Liquid, that is the name of the cure.’ Although Han Lang did not believe that the immortal honey of this type could encompass all the ingredient needed due to its beneficial substance and its rich concentration of qi.

“Prepare yourself.” The sensation from his hands indicated that the process almost complete so Han Lang had to use his all just to directed the medicine.

Both Yi Xiaodie and Kexin nodded, they saw with their own eyes as the yellow light brightened the room.

The array disappeared when the intensity of light reached the maximum while Han Lang caught the jar.

Next, the thing that they did was to mix the honey into the water. And this was where Han Lang hesitated whether he should add the additional medicinal herbs or not.

“Should I add it or not? Well, that depends on your answer.” In the end, Han Lang made a decision and that was to let the recipient herself decide the matter.

In the short time, Han Lang let out a bowl which sized as large as his palm. The bowl was filled with water and surprisingly the surface of the water did not move in the slightest while Han Lang moved his hands.

“Let me judge myself. Doctor Han, that's where you put the medicinal herbs?” asked Yi Xiaodie while pointing her finger at the side of Han Lang.

At the side of Han Lang, there was a new table which he placed the herbs before he refined the honey.

“Yes. So should I add all of it or just some of them?” Han Lang asked in detail.

“Hmm.” Faced with a strange phenomenon where the honey was so potent that the addition of the other herbs was like adding salt to the ocean, Yi Xiaodie furrowed her brows.

She actually lost in thought, not because of the choice she had to make but rather the effect of the herbs Han Lang had brought.

‘It's true that my body is weak but with the honey my body will recover but that takes time. On the other hand, because my body is weak that I worry that the pain Doctor Han describe will truly affect me.’

She had read many books regarding the herbs and its effect in order to recover herself or looking for someone who could make the cure.

And she had found it. Breaking Dawn Liquid, that was the name of the cure. But she understood that the ingredients, especially the main ingredient were hard to come by.

‘I suddenly remember about that day where I have to meet her. If I was not in this place, I would not meet her and got to know that the main ingredient for the cure was varied.’

The day Yi Xiaodie met her was also the day where there was a group that left the city. The person she met was someone she did not expect at all from all the people she had known so far.

‘Actually, in the deeper part of the forest, all the ingredients you are looking for is there. But as for whether we can get something good or not that depends on our encounter.’ Said the woman to her.

And here she was, already got the best ingredient from all kinds of the main ingredient that was The Honey which contained a large amount of Qi.

And she also remembered what the young man had said to her that the honey was given by someone and there was someone that requested it for her.

‘You already know about this yet you still said that the main ingredient the group will get depends on luck. I really can't get anything from her, from The Goddess of Artifact.’

But that was already something in the past.

And she decisively chose the herbs that she already had in her minds.

‘What I need the most is the kind that will strengthen the body, the kind that can reduce the pain and also the rejuvenating herbs. The second thing about the herbs is that it still retains its effect when mixed with water and become soluble.’ Yi Xiaodie worked her brain at a fast pace and glanced at the herbs on the table.

“Waterbright Fruit, Hundred Year Ginseng and The Blue Leaf. That is what I need.” Said Yi Xiaodie in confidence.

Han Lang stared at the young woman whose body looked weak and fragile. He did not expect that such person could be this sharp and knowledgeable!

“Hmm, Hundred Year Ginseng can strengthen.” Han Lang instantly knew the reason why she would choose those herbs.

“Let's mix them and let Young Miss Yi drink it to her heart's content!” Han Lang said as he also let Kexin helped him.

-

“It’s begun.” Even Alice could feel the effect of the Breaking Dawn Liquid from her current place.

But Manstein became absent-minded, his thought returned to the event where he met the unfathomable existence which could control the soul. That type of moving and touching the soul, for Manstein it was so profound yet unattainable.

Since that day, he could not even see its whereabouts. And every time he thought about the words it said, Manstein did not know what to do.

‘You can see me due to the fact that you are allowed to. And second, I really take interest in you as someone who understands the basis of the soul in its essence.’

Manstein sure that the figure was so bright his eyes could not see the form of the figure completely, not even its outline appearance!

‘Death and Life, it comes from the soul. Since that was the case, I think and even hypotheses around this topic. To think that I dipped my hands on something too hard to understand.’

Perhaps for that figure, his knowledge was a joke, too small to be noticed nor commended.

“What's wrong? Did you remember something unpleasant?” Alice saw that Manstein became lost in thought and she concluded that he remembered the past.

“Death, tell me one being that knows about the time death will come to me and I will be content.”

Said Manstein in melancholy. Because of that sentence alone, he tried his hardest to pry into the mystery of the soul. He had the idea like how to avoid death, what if the soul is the primary source of life and consciousness etc.

But alas, in this world alone Manstein already found the thing he could not even understand in a single glance.

“No one knows when we will die, no one. That is the bitter truth we are trying to evade in our life yet we are trying our best each day in our lives, just like everyone else here.” Manstein glanced at the direction where Alice had pointed.

“Sorry for my muttering just now. By the way, what is your thought about giving her the main ingredient of the cure?” because he finished his bathing, Manstein got out from the pool and wore his clothes again.

“From my perspective though, I invest that much just for her so she should repay back this debt and that is my intention. Furthermore, we have to get out from this continent in the future.” Said Alice as she took a look at Manstein.

“You barely explain to me about that. Even forcing me to discuss this with everyone influential here, you better tell me the reason.” Manstein was changing when he spoke.

He did not understand why she had forced him to tell the mayor about this nor he knew where Alice got the information from. But if he did not know the reason, he might as well not tell it.

That was why he had to ask and from the looks of it, she already arranged the answer neatly.

“It’s because of the part of the memories you have taken from Nightstalker King, remember? Or do you think you get all the memories just because your device said so?” Alice had her proud smile and for Manstein though, there was a feeling of foolishness returned to him.

“I did not think that far..” for him, that single of mistake could be dangerous and fatal!

“The memories that I have read is stored differently so it cannot be included with the ordinary memory you know. Remember that this world is slightly different but that difference can make something simple in our world more complicated here and vice versa.” Alice explained.

Because of Manstein realizing his mistake that Alice became more satisfied if he was at her side.

‘Is this...isn't this comparing note?’ Manstein then understood the meaning of comparing note with the other.

Different perspective meant different understanding of the essentially the same thing. The memory in his world was the information the brain stored and some of them could be recalled back.

But in this world, memory was like a piece of information that could be manipulated if one did not carefully check.

And now he realized that he had to personally checked himself even though the device already warned him! Also, Manstein truly understood one of the words his grandfather had said to him.

“Reliance is fine, dependence in not.”

He started to depend on his device ever since he had to face the unknown matter this world had for him. But today, Manstein could finally see that the device, in the end was just a tool. A mere tool to assist him!

“The energy which came from the heaven is a mere tool for me to communicate with you.” Said the statue to Xian Ni.

Regarding his confusion about why the statue could speak, now Xian Ni finally had the answer.

“You have relied on it but don't depend on it.”

Indeed, if not for those energy entering his body Xian Ni would not be able to carry what he had currently. But of course, he was confused why he should not depend on it.

“Thank you for your thought and care.” Said Xian Ni.

“You said that you want to trade your goats, crops and some pelts so I believe that you will go to the nearest town half a day from here.” The statue suddenly said. Then it continued in a worried tone, “Are you sure you will be fine with such crowd of goats around you?”

“What's the matter?”

“The safety during your journey! That's what worried me because you are the first sentient being I have found with that energy inside your body.”

Regarding that matter, Xian Ni smiled back and said in confidence, “Then they better think twice or just abort their thought if they want to harm me.”

And Manstein also had to face one certain dilemma that was whether he should hunt the street bandit or not.

‘If only I can act just like Xian Ni would..’

Because he did not sure himself that those bandits have a backer or not, he did not dare to make a decision if one day he faced this kind of threat.

This was the second thing he thought after reassuring himself that outside of Xuan City, the difference in safety, comfort and atmosphere truly like heaven and earth.

And why would he wanted to hunt those street bandits? The only reason he had to do it was because he had to plunder the resources from them as the fastest solution for his advancement in cultivation

‘So I have to train everything from scratch for the best result and increase my own safety.’ Thought Manstein. The training included physical exercise, alert awareness, detecting the presence, even some battle training.

That was why he went to the place where someone could train at peace without distraction. And coincidentally, the most suitable place that Manstein had thought was near The Forgotten Pond.
