He witnessed it with his own eyes, the sudden event which led to the death of one of his friends. Manstein felt like something inside him screaming in agony, something that had lost.
Manstein had walked further to the facility. He was not sure the place that he had stayed all along would be a simple underground facility. And he even knew about the surveillance camera that located at every corner possible just at the ceiling.
And on his hands, a bracelet that stained with blood was held. It was the common bracelet that contained basic information every person there had and Manstein managed to get one for his own use.
‘It’s a fortune that I realized the usage of this bracelet. I almost forgot because I have to remember the date of the new game release and training session with grandpa.’
He pressed a button and a map appeared in the front of him, showing his current position. Manstein then could plan his next action. And then there were also emails that had been sent since two hours ago.
[Mobilization of the Prisoners
Due to the capacity of the room that cannot fill the satisfying requirement for the hostage, some of the prisoners are going to be moved from the initial room to the new ones that located at A-10 area. Please go to the place immediately upon receiving the message to the 13th squad.]
Manstein frowned because he realized that there was a new problem arose. But he did not want to save them, yet.
‘Initially, I wanted to escape together but looks like I have to deactivate the automatic defense system as well as opening the door to the outside.’
Manstein thought like that because he saw the map and also figured out that there were more defense measures and doors that would make the escape plan harder. Maybe for the others, he was just a child due to his height and experience but now Manstein was a killer, a new one.
He could not forget the sensation when he saw the hole on the man’s head as he pulled the trigger and also could not forget the pain that came from the depth of his heart. Manstein gritted his teeth as he endured the new kind of pain.
The pain of losing someone.
Manstein swore that he would avenge his friend in his own way, to create the chaos on the place as much as he wanted to. And so he crawled inside the narrow and suffocating ventilation system. He used this because the ventilation system connected to the control room.
And the best part of it was the fact that there was no detection against human when he crawled at the ventilation system which only he could pass through.
Soon, he saw beneath him the control room where there were people that observed every movement and the stability of the facility. There was also monitors which could be used to watch the movement of the guards or the people.
‘It’s the control room and they even have this hidden sentry turret behind the wall. It’s a fortune that my area of confinement is within the older area ones where there are only bedrocks and concrete.’
Manstein knew that the opportunity to avoid detection had come to an end with his strike to the control room. But if he gained the access to the most of the facility then he could even manipulate some escape route, hostage even defense system.
‘But I need someone who has mastery of the technological and information. Save it for later, as long as I can get the two of them at once then the problem is for me to solve.’
He saw that there were two people sat at the front of the large and multiple monitors with different images, and they also had a microphone on their body. Manstein then put his pistol and then held a bayonet in a reverse grip.
This was something that his grandfather had taught him the most in case Manstein faced with dangers. And from the condition, wasn’t the condition already bad to begin with?
When the position was right, Manstein kicked the ventilation door with his legs as hard as he could while his eyes turned red. He descended and immediately swiped the bayonet to his left while jumping a little to gain height.
The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.
“Who are you..” just when the sound of the first person reached the throat, it could not come out anymore as the blood started to flow from the neck with a bloody red line. Even though Manstein was still young but he had been trained like a soldier by his grandfather. Other than that, he also had the gene factor that could enhance his battle prowess.
As soon as Manstein finished him, the second person started to move reflexively to the red button. Manstein’s pupil shrank as he realized the movement of the second person was faster than he anticipated.
“You won’t get away from this place! I don’t care if you are only a brat because you already killed him!”
The man held a grudge against Manstein because of the action of killing his friend that held one of Manstein’s friend and ended in tragedy but then he felt a sudden force hit his head. His head went into the wall direction and then it hit. The only thing that he felt lucky about was his helmet because he wore it currently.
And the man also regretted his decision to isolate them as he forgot completely about the entrance of the ventilation system was not under surveillance from the control room.
Manstein also realized it that the bayonet he threw could not penetrate the helmet, therefore he had to use the pistol again. He aimed the muzzle at the person whose back now was completely exposed.
‘My arm, it will be hurt again but so what!? As long as I can kill him and gain control of the facility then I can satisfy myself.’
He pulled the trigger again and a loud noise came as Manstein felt the numbness on his hand. He even dropped the pistol because of that. But another red colored blood covered the wall, painted it with a hand mark that nearly missed the red button beside it.
“He’s persistent. Now, where should I start?” Manstein then moved and sat on the chair, looking at the complicated button combinations, dozens of the light signal as well as the monitor in front of him.
Now that he killed more than just one person, Manstein did not feel anything towards them. And there was a whisper in his mind, that they just deserve it and it was also their risk of accepting their job.
Now his thought process just being rational, without considering the emotional factor or any kind like that. After he cleared his mind from the tragedy he had witnessed, Manstein then searched for the A-10 area.
“It should be, there!” Manstein found the corresponding monitor which showed the A-10 area and its surrounding. There were seven monitors that showed the area from the room, the corridor, even the cafeteria.
But when Manstein saw the control system in front of him, his face turned pale due to the hesitation. Even though he could plan the escape but it did not mean he was great. There were many things for Manstein to not know and the countless button that laid in front of him could be considered as one.
Then Manstein saw the desk not far from his position and he opened it. Fortunately, it contained the most basic manual for the control room. He held the manual books tightly, as his heart pounding with extreme frequency.
“According to the book, the control that connected this roo to the A-10 area should be around here.” Manstein saw several buttons on a certain square group. He did not hesitate anymore and then pressed a button from there.
And from the monitor, he saw the door that held the hostage now opened wide. He grinned and then he did what he was most proficient of, using the basic order to the programmed sentry gun to list the black-suited men as the target.
And on the front monitor, appeared a confirmation message.
[Do you wish to save changes? Y/N]
Manstein wanted to press the button that symbolized ‘Yes’ but he heard several footsteps and he realized that the control room was not soundproofed!
Manstein then pressed the button with haste before the door that connected the control room to another was opened by force. But fortunately, Manstein already pressed the button and any personnel, even the squad and the black suited people would experience what hell is.
“Surrender or we will shoot!” the door finally broke down while another black suited people appeared and raised their rifle. But what they saw, they could not understand. A young man smiled at them coldly as several guns from under the floor suddenly came and shot them.
The men soon became the figure with countless holes on their body because the curtain of bullets made them unable to dodge. There were some that tenaciously survived despite the grievous wounds on their body.
Of course, their fate was just dying much slower compared to their comrades who were killed instantly.
Manstein could smell the blood on the air, slowly filling the room and made the adrenaline on his body circulated to his heart and made his breath went faster.
“This place is already under complete isolation despite me controlling everything in it. Looks like they know that to prevent escapee from obtaining their objective, they closed the outermost door and now send this unit to investigate.”
Manstein realized that he could not lift the isolation and lacked the knowledge to do that. Therefore he wanted to see the new hostages that were new to this place. He saw it from the monitor that all of the hostages were girls.
It was different from Manstein’s own group that only consisted boy. And after that, he came over the lying bodies near the door to the control room.
“Still alive?” Manstein then put out his bayonet, and without pity in his eyes, he stabbed the soldier’s neck. The body twitched before it stopped and Manstein looked the scene with his completely red eyes.
And like in games where a player took the ammunition from the bodies, Manstein also searched their body thoroughly and killed the wounded ones. Their blood smeared his hands and the bayonet but Manstein already too lazy to care about that.
‘I have three smoke grenades and one flashbang. And I also get several reserve pistol and ammunition for an emergency. Now looks like I need to tell my group before I proceed further. Besides, those girls hostage should be good as usable tools, right?’
That thought of using them as tools only applied when they just became a hindrance to his plan. After all, as long as anyone of them could contact the outside world then they could basically call for reinforcement.
“Uhm, can you hear me guys?” using a microphone to channeled his sound to a certain area, Manstein said with hesitation.
“I repeat, can you hear me guys?” Manstein looked to the most right corner of the monitors and several children were in there, being projected.
Seeing the reaction came from them in the monitor made Manstein continued his words.
“Go to the left, then go right at the intersection before you all come to a large circular room where there are other people. Perhaps they want to help you.”
That was the only thing he could say at that moment before he saw the area where there were several other black-suited men armed themselves to their teeth and even with the heavy weapon entered the facility from the monitor.
‘Really fast and this place is isolated too. According to the map, that thing should be there waiting for use. When I see the helmet model, it is only the standard infantry helmet which doesn’t include air filter....’
The truth was, Manstein already expected it for them to arrive fast so that he could threaten the leader and if possible also eliminated their leader. Of course, the risk for the plan was in his mind as well.
It was because no matter the culprit, these kinds of people would not show mercy even to a child like him. Other than that, he found out that the cannon fodder at the facility was at least experienced at least one war or more.
And they were a large organization that became the threat to Manstein’s own nation, meaning that the entire kidnapping case was a plot for something.
