“So, my thoughts about how the calendar works, were spot on? Great! With this, although it will take me a very, very long time before I can advance, I don’t have to experience it at least. The only question is if my lifespan is sufficient. Surely it wouldn’t kill me by aging if I choose a date to far into the future, right? I will start small, then expand upon this. Also, my gathering rate of spiritual qi has increased about 1.01 times in this period of three months. At this rate, in 500 years my gathering of spiritual qi will double, meaning I would only need 15,000,000 years to level up at that speed. So, if I continue to improve in cultivation speed, and my lifespan permits it, in 16242 years, I will be able to fill all my skin cells to the brim with qi, meaning I can start the next step, the bones. It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense though. Why would the bones be next and not the flesh? I heard that only those at the True Cultivation stage will have their flesh cells filled with qi, but this seems flawed to me. Whatever, I will figure it out when I get to that level. But, if my cultivation speed continues to increase, I will be able to reach the peak of mortal evolution stage much faster than I could ever imagine. It’s still many thousands of years but compared to the presumed hundreds of millions of years, this is heavenly.”
Not choosing to dawdle any longer, he chose the next date in the calendar. His mind, similarly to the time he used the ‘Reset Clock’ as he named it with his brilliant naming sense, was pulled out of the time sphere. Hurriedly checking his body, he could confirm that his cells were slightly, very slightly more filled with qi than before.
“It worked indeed! Let’s go! My life span would at the very least be 100 years, so if I choose a date 100 years in the future, it should be fine. If I feel my body is decayed, I will comprehend some lifespan technique with the help of all the knowledge in the library here. If not, then great! That means I can jump even further into the future. I don’t have anything to do here anyway. No friends, no unfinished business, no nothing. It is better this way. Maybe the upper realm will be different. Regardless, before I reach the true cultivation stage, I will emerge once. What I’m going to do however, remains to be seen. Time to begin a proper cultivation retreat!”
Upon entering the time sphere, he picked up the calendar and started flipping the pages. After quite a while, he managed to reach the optimal date. Exactly 100 years in the future.
“Don’t think, just do!”

A person not leaving their home for years at a time is very strange among mortals, however it is the norm amongst cultivators. A person at the enlightenment stage has means of extending their lifespans to reach up to 100,000 years, making long periods of seclusion a common occurrence. Yet, this only applied to the older generation. The younger people are often more hot-blooded and in need of experience, causing them to be active in the social scene and the exploration of different inheritances and pocket dimensions. So, imagine the surprise of the old man who interviewed Samuel, whose name is Mike Stary, when Samuel didn’t exit his courtyard in ten years. Then 20 years. All the way up to the current 100 years that have passed. 100 years and the young Samuel, a potential future headmaster of the guild, didn’t show his face once. He asked himself a question he has asked countless times over the years.
“What is that youngling doing? Is he just cultivating or is he doing research? Hmm, is it possible for him to be dead? I didn’t sense his cultivation level the last time I saw him, but… No, I don’t think he would silently die. He gives me the feeling of a super talent. What super talent who has not been interfered with, will perish without a commotion? If he doesn’t come out in another decade, I’ll use the master key to enter and check up on him.”
Meanwhile, in the courtyard, Samuel was sitting in the cultivation room, perfectly still. The same way he had been sitting for the past 100 years, the only difference was that his eyes were open.
“Just like that, it has been an entire century. I literally didn’t feel anything. Have I been scammed? Is the calendar a faulty product that only allows me to go a few days into the future?”
These were his thoughts, until he sensed the energy in his skin cells. The amount of power he felt surging in his body was hundreds of times that of his previous self. Easily elevating his power to the Enlightenment stage. A hundred years to amplify his power a hundred times. This is a trade most if not all the powerful cultivators in the universe would like to engage in.
“This is ridiculous. How can my power increase so much without increasing my level, especially at such a low stage of cultivation? Wait! Doesn’t this mean that by the time I reach the True Cultivation stage, I will have a power so far beyond the limits of the world, but will be unable to transcend? Have I been cursed to suffer forever? By the time I reach the Transcendent stage, I will have suffered here, without any opponent or things to do. This is unfortunate. Most people would probably die of anger or jealousy if they knew of this, but I don’t care about power. Power is so worthless. The only thing it is necessary for is to remain free. But how free am I, shackled in the cage that is the Shattered Realm. You know what, my mood is good. I won’t allow this to affect my mood. The future is the future, nothing I can really do about it now. I’ll deal with it when it becomes a real problem. Also, I can’t be bothered to go out and fight with other people now either. Sooo…is it actually a problem? Anyway, that old man is probably wondering why I haven’t left my courtyard in a century. I’ll notify him that I am fine, and ready to go into a new retreat.”
Not even standing up, Samule activated the ‘assistant-network’, leaving a message for the old man, whose name he only now realized was Mike.
“Let’s go again. It might be my misconception, but it seems to me that the vitality of my body remains at the same level. Not decreasing nor increasing. I have the instinctive feeling that I should go for a millennium this time. Go with your gut! Let’s goooo!”
Mike: “…”
‘How is he going into a cultivation retreat again?’
