Cost of Revenge

Cost of Revenge

Samuel, however, knew that he was not powerful enough to defeat the entire organization. He wasn't even powerful enough to defeat the protector of this stronghold. A protector that was on his way out right now. His powerful aura shaking the entire region nearby, a power almost reaching the Enlightenment stage.

“How dare you attack our stronghold? I'll have you experienced the pain of infinite torture, brat!”

Samuel merely chuckled at his antics, and before the powerhouse could reach him. He opened a tear in space and stepped into it, allowing it to disappear. Samuel was gone like the wind, leaving without a trace.

Approximately 10,000 kilometers west of his earlier location, a tear appeared in space. From it appeared the exhausted Samuel. Well, exhausted isn't quite right either. More like mentally drained. His energy was still half full, yet his mental power was emptied. The amount of energy he had to use to construct this spatial tunnel/tear was not great. However, the mental focus it required to keep it stable was enormous. He was not ready to rest just yet though, as he was planning to attack the stronghold in the city he was currently in. The City of Backmark. This city, however, did not have a peak true cultivator stage expert guarding it. With the strongest person being at level 5 of True Cultivator stage. Samuel was confident he could take care of this guy himself. Not needing to run away. As such, he planned to fully annihilate this entire stronghold, ridding this God forsaken city of this pest that has plagued it for years.

“I won't waste any time with this one. There's no need for me to posture or make sure there is no powerful being here. I'll just go straight in, annihilate them and go straight out.”

After saying this, he opened yet another tear in space, However, not as great a one as previously. This one allowed him to travel a distance of two kilometers into the center of the stronghold in the city. As he appeared in the stronghold, he didn't wait for anyone to respond. He didn't wait for anyone to even react before releasing another withering beam and then using Spirit Gun to finish off the people he didn't hit with the first attack. Instantly over 1000 people who could be considered experts, were annihilated. Leaving only two people left within the stronghold. Samuel and the Protector. However, unlike the last time, the protector did not show his face. As if afraid of the consequences that would bring. Instead, he opted to flee. Samuel could sense his aura moving away at a rapid pace. A pace that no person under the True Cultivator stage could ever match. except for Samuel. With a simple flick of the wrist, he opened a tear in space. However, instead of entering it himself, a person came flying out. That person was the protector.

“How could I ever let you vermin run away from me like this? You, just as much as the others, deserve to die. And die you will.”

As he said this, Samuel prepared to take off his blindfold, ready to unleash his full power to make sure he could finish his opponent. However, as he was ready to do so. A heavy bolt of lightning struck him straight in the chest, sending him flying hundreds of meters backwards. Slamming heavily into the gates. Coughing out a mouthful of blood, Samuel could not make sense of the situation.

‘What happened? This is not an attack a fifth level True Cultivator could ever release. Have I been tricked?’

“Do you really think you can just come to the Black Lotus and act however you please? Are you really so deluded? Do you think that there is no one capable in the entire organization? How many people do you think have attacked our organization over the years? And yet we still stand strong. Our new blood perishes all the time. However, the core has stood steady for hundreds of, almost 1000 years. And you, you are not qualified to disrupt our order. Luckily, I was in this city when I got news of the attack on the other stronghold. I was ready for you. Your name is Samuel, right? You're related to that, Merling. I guess I need to have you remember what happens when we need information, and I'll let you know what happens when people cross us. The pain I will inflict upon you is one that no person could ever withstand. You will suffer. And you will suffer forever. No mercy like death will ever greet you for as long as I am alive. There will be no chance for you to repent in Hell because you will be done with it while you're still amongst the living”

He prepared to launch another lightning strike towards Daniel. However, his monologue took way too long, and before the attack was even ready to launch, he witnessed something that he would never, ever forget. Two piercing silver irises with two black holes in the center, gazing at him from the distance. Instilling in him a fear so existential it can't even be described. A fear that nearly petrified him. He would never forget those eyes. Not only because of the fear they instilled in him, but because the dead cannot forget anything.

“Be gone!”

Space collapsed where the Protector's head was located. With the body fully devoured and space now healing itself, Samuel stood up shakily. That attack thoroughly damaged his internal organs. Not to mention the immense exhaustion of qi that affected his body. All of this, however, paled in comparison to the pain he was experiencing in his right temple and his eyes. That pain alone was enough for his eyes to start to gush with blood. Not normal blood. Not red blood. Pure silver blood. Blood that seemed to burn space as it Streamed down his face.

Not in any state to open a spatial tear, Samuel decided to run away on foot. If he stayed here any longer, he could not guarantee his own safety and instead of being captured at that point, they would kill him knowing about his spatial abilities.

“Guess I was worrying too much about not being able to annihilate the entire organization. He might have suppressed his aura to that of the fifth level true cultivator, but he was undoubtedly at the peak of the stage. Even if it came at a great cost, I was able to get rid of him. Indicating I might be able to rid the realm of the rest of those parasites. My revenge will be fulfilled.”

Although his words inspiring and his tone menacing. His figure was incredibly pathetic. He was not running away. He was limping. Limping away as fast as he could out of fear. Fear he would have to suffer again, fear that he would be unable to complete his revenge. This could not be permitted as he had given his word. And he, Samuel, might be a lot of things, but a liar is not one of them. He will do as he says, no matter the cost. This is his cultivation heart. Something that can never be broken, even in death.
