In math we know that 1-1 = 0 and 0 = 1-1. This shows something fundamental to magic. The property of pulling something from nothing. Well that phrase is a bit of a misnomer, instead it is more accurate to say that you are creating diametric opposites which result in nothing when combined together. A good example of this would be telekinesis. Telekinesis allows the user to control an object through the careful application of force. And, as stated in Newton’s Third Law of Motion, for each action there is an equal and opposite reaction. So then why do we not see this action happening when a person uses telekinesis. Where does the opposite reaction go? Of course it gets canceled out by the anti-force produced in the initial reaction to create the force.

This, of course, could also be interpreted as a displacement of energy or matter. For example, a fireball is a pure sphere of highly condensed plasma. The energy used to force the particles in the air to become plasma is displaced from some other location. An addition of energy and a subtraction of energy a net zero in terms of energy, but still creating something despite nothing being used.
