John, a human caught in the crossfire of an attack that pierced through realities, an attack meant to sunder gods, to end immortals. This very moment in time and space was the worst possible moment to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. This wayward attack slammed into John, turning his muscles to sludge, locking his joints, freezing him in place. The wisp of unfathomable power raged through his body until in one final burst the power infused and embedded itself into John’s flesh and blood.
As John recovered from the initial shock and pain of the unknown power he realized that he couldn’t move. But then why hadn’t he fallen over from the natural force of the Earth that pulled him to the ground. Although he couldn’t move his eyes anymore, even his eyelids couldn’t budge, he could still see in front of himself and he saw that nothing was moving. All creatures in the vicinity of his view were rigidly still. Even the objects in his vicinity were frozen in motion.

John thought of several hypotheses for that strange absence of time. First, and most simply, it could be that time has been frozen. He could be going insane or his mind deteriorating causing him to be trapped within a prison of his own mind. Morbidly, I could be dead and in hell trapped from moving until the end times.
In truth no of those hypotheses were correct. In reality the power that bonded to his body was changing his perception of time. The longer the power dwelled within his body the more potent the dilation of time perception became.
