"C, can i ask a question?"
"Hmm, sure go ahead."
Carl briefly nodded at Irra's hesitating words.
"A, are you really the one who healed my wound?"
She asked the most obvious question that Carl guessed she would.
"Hmm yes, i saw your brother behind some bushes when i was walking beside the walls."
"He looked really worried and nervous so i asked what's wrong. Then i saw you in a near-death state. because i luckily have some high grade medicine with me, i was able to save you."
Carl gave a clear explanation without cutting corners. Of course the part about a high grade medicine was obviously a lie.
"A, amazing... "
To Irra's mumbling, Carl asked.
"What is?"
She fidgeted nervously before speaking.
"Y, you used a high grade medicine for a stranger you just met a, and on top f' that you did so w, without hesitation... "
Carl hmmed as he stared blankly at the girl whose head is lowered.
'If only she isn't so gloomy she'd be as pretty as that princess.'
The princess who is sleeping inside the carriage entered Carl's vision. Through Kaguya's body he played a prank by making the earth tremble a bit under the road they're taking.
The princess jolted awake with drool still dripping from her lips.
The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.
'So unprincess like.'
But the fact of her beauty is an evidence of a bloodline.
"C, can i ask one last question?"
"Sure, go ahead."
"I, i'm sorry for being rude to my savior but what will you ask in return."
Irra's eyes clouded with vigilance. Carl's next words may very well end up having him marked as a criminal as before he even arrive in human society.
Carl erased his smile and answered in a serious tone.
"My knowledge and information about the hu- er, cities are greatly outdated. It could be fatally dangerous going around without being informed. Since i could be making enemy around the city without me knowing anything.
So, i'll let you two help me with that."
"Are you perhaps raised far away from civilization?"
The young looks from Carl and his lack of knowledge on human society could only look like someone that grew in a closed off country. Moreover Carl looked like a foreign prince so Irra had the urge to pry on.
"By any chance.. Are you a prince from a fallen country?"
Carl heard the faint 'as well' at her words. He sensed expectation from her question.
"Shouldn't you be avoiding prying into the life of someone who saved you."
Irra lightly gasped at his words, but she regained composure and became less wary than before.
Her eyes cleared with some doubts as if she come to a conclusion.
'Well, whatever she thinks it would be more easy for me.'
"Thank you for saving me."
"I still need compensation for that high grade medicine though. Since i won't know the price it have in the market today, it is up to you if you will try to trick me or not."
Carl said words to reassure her of his intentions clearly. Though it seemed intimidating, Irra responded brightly and saying:
"Of course, we won't even think of deceiving our saviour.. Umm.. "
"What is it?"
"C, could i ask for saviour's name?"
Irra asked hesitatingly.
"It's Carl. I'm a lone adventurer."
"I see."
"May i inquire on one last thing?"
Carl thought it wasn't so bad to converse with a human for a bit. So he replied.
"Sure."
He was wrong though.
Their conversation soon turned to a lengthened story telling.
"You know, Nii-san always scolds me whenever i play with the horses. He says that it isn't suitable for a lady but my dream is actually to ride my own horse someday going with Nii-san on a journey– "
Irra became more talkative and her wariness of Carl disappeared like dust.
The long narration that sounded more like endless complaints made Carl refreshed.
As humans they live short lives and always seek thrill and new things. The lack of boredom in their lives is what made Carl like humanity.
To the point of making enemy of the other gods and turning into a Chaos god.
"Can i ask one last question, please?"
Carl can't remember how many times he have heard that phrase but he still smiled and ushered her to go on.
"Um, why did sir Carl decided to be an adventurer? Isn't being an adventurer full of risks? Why not stay comfortable at your own home."
Carl inwardly grinned. For this situation he already had an answer ready.
"I once had a home, and i was planning to settle down there until recently. But somebody took over the land which it stood and destroyed my humble house.
Thus i decided to become an adventurer to somehow earn enough for a new house."
Carl told his made up backstory, but somehow Irra fell silent.
"Umm, I'm sorry i asked. It's surely tough losing your home."
Irra spoke with heavy feelings, as if he experienced a same thing on her own.
"Don't be down, i could have choosed not to tell you but i saw the cheerful aura you had and it affected me."
"Be sure to smile or else you'll be affecting those around you with your gloom."
Carl caught a glimpse of a single tear that formed on Irra's crystal eyes.
She stood up and puffed her chest.
"Yes! I will heed your advice!"
It was then that the unconscious Artur shuffled awake.
"Nii-san!"
Irra rushed to his side and Carl sat on spot.
