Chapter 4: a Good person, Cruel demon

Chapter 4: a Good person, Cruel demon

The city of Fandra is well-known not only for it's sturdy walls that withstood invasions but also the commerce and economic value it holds towards the country.

The kingdom of Aeristolis is placed in between two neighbouring countries. One of them which is a Vanguard country for any demonic invasions.

So naturally their military would be top-tiered compared to those behind them.

Normally nothing worth of notice happens in between these human countries. But sometimes there are those on the top who ambitiously crave for more than they can take.

Whenever these kind of persons come to power they try to invade Aeristolis and claim it as their rightful land as humanity's vanguard.

Only one thing stood in their way, and that is the impregnable fortress Fandra.

Years of sieges and battles led them to admit failure and go back to their lands. Fandra became a well known historical memento after many years.

The high fortress walls had been fortified and lengthened by the order of the king. The land which Fandra has jurisdiction on became 10 times as large, making it the size of an average city.

Encampments of refugees has been replaced by Inns and barracks replaced by the city office. From rations of soldiers to restaurant and stalls with food for the poor and wealthy.

The fortress transformed into a full fledged city in more than ways than you might think.

At the foot of the lengthy walls, an unknown phenomenon took place. The air and space violently distorted as a mini explosion occured in it's vicinity.

A figure of a man tapping his boot on the ground materialized.

"Hmm.. This is the thing blocking the way?"

Carl looked for any way around the obstacle he saw from afar but it looks like these walls extends as far as the monster boundary.

'If i can, I'd like to avoid destroying unsuspecting beasts'

The speed which Carl has been going at has enough force to rip through the air and space itself. Naturally any living being would get shredded to pieces just by him passing it.

"Now where exactly is the entrance to this thing?"

Stolen story; please report.

He avoided populated areas by far, but it looks like he arrived at human territories.

'I could always jump through these walls.'

The 40 feet high talls pose no problem for Carl, but he also curious as to what place this is.

"Then– "

Carl moved to turn around. Then a rustling from bushes entered his ear.

'Hmm?'

Carl used God's eye and saw the figure of a young boy around 15 or 16 peeking at his direction.

Carl grinned.

'Ah, The first human i will meet.'

He decided to give the human child a little scare by transforming into a demon but.

'What's this? Another child?'

Behind the boy is an unmoving figure of a girl laying beside a tree, panting heavily.

God's eye revealed that the girl's life is at the verge of being extinguished. Carl's face stiffened.

"You there."

The boy jolted in surprise by Carl's call. He briefly froze in place and stared at Carl with vigilance.

"I don't know who's there but if you're not a monster or a bandit then come out here."

As if he's convinced that Carl is just aware of a potential enemy. The boy decided to reveal himself.

"I, i am not an enemy."

The boy walked out from the bushes. Now that he is plain sight, Carl could see his outfit and equipments.

A wrung out leather vest and pants stacked with Leather knee pads. On his head is an iron helmet strapped around his chin.

Carl silently praised his equipment, a standard must-equipment that every newbie adventurer should follow.

Like some certain G*Slayer said, "cool appearances doesn't save your life. Proper equipment does."

Carl could faintly remember the obsession of that person from killing one type of monster over and over again.

"What are you doing there?"

Carl asked. Pretending to be wary of the boy in front of him.

Seeing this the boy spoke:

"I am just looking for the entrance to the walls just like you but i became lost."

Carl sensed the urgency in the boy's tone and the rough breathing in the background.

"Are you with someone?"

Carl's question made the boy purse his lips, his eyes went from side to side as he sweated profusely.

"I, i am alo– "

"Cough! Cough!!"

The hoarse cough from the girl broke the silent atmosphere and the boy immediately jumped to her side without hesitation.

"Irra!"

"Cough!! Cough!!!"

The coughing became more severe. It looks like she is holding her chest tight to prevent her from being discovered.

"It looks like this girl is in a serious predicament?"

Carl slowly walked towards the two. The boy maintained vigilance on him but he is too focused on tending to the suffering girl.

"Do you need any help?"

Like a saviour, or a devil. Carl offered a hand with a gentle smile on his face.

There was an audible sound of teeth grinding, and the boy turned nervously to Carl.

"P, please save her."

Carl nodded and kneeled beside the girl.

"Hmm? This is a Frosoc poison, she got less than an hour before dying at this point."

Stung by this frog-like monster, anyone would be normally unresponsive.

Carl pointed out his observations and this made the boy's shoulders quake in fear.

"T, that c-can you save her?"

"Of course."

Carl reached into his pocket and a piece of leaf materialized in his hand. He crumpled the leaf in his hand and rubbed it on the place where the wound is.

A small light appeared on top of the wound and the crumbled pieces of leaves disappeared on top of the skin.

Of course the leaf didn't have any healing properties whatsoever. It was just a leaf. Carl healed the girl by returning her body to her most healthy state.

A glint of a blade reflected in Carl's eyes. The cold edge is pressed onto his skin, despite that he doesn't look fazed instead felt intrigued and curiosity.

'Hmm, what's this?'

Carl remained stiff and tilted his head ever so slightly.

"Get away from her, now!"

The trembling and nervous voice from before couldn't be seen. Instead replaced by the cold eyes filled with hostility towards Carl.

"What are you doing, may i ask?"

Carl knew the inside and out of a human's mind and emotions. But it still surprises him how humans could have such unpredictability.

"Now you saw her face and touched her body, i have no choice but to silence you. I recognize those disgusting eyes that's mocking us."

"I don't know what you're planning but unfortunately for you i will end it here."

The boy twisted his blade across Carl's neck in a swift motion. Carl's head fell silently to the floor but the smile and gentle eyes of his still isn't gone.

The boy looked at the decapitated head in disgust. He felt eerie at the same time when he heard a gentle voice from behind.

"Hmm, but why would you kill 'That' poor girl?"

The boy felt an ominous premonition as he turned around.
