“We will start with the highest score on the Core Examination, and end with the lowest. A recap, the Core Examination was to test your overall knowledge. There were questions you were not expected to know from schooling, and even questions based on military experience. When I call your name, please come up and take your exam.” Elise sat calmly in her seat, knowing she had eyes on her. She knew her classmates were expecting her to have the highest score, and she knew she had managed to set herself below that. “Elise Elliot.” And there went her plan immediately. It would seem she had not done well enough in lowering her answers for the Union Examination Tests. Stepping up to the front, she finds herself taking the Core Examination, and heading back to her seat. Looking it over, she sees almost a perfect score. She would just need to wait for the rest. Glancing to her right, she sees a few of the popular kids were clearly upset with how she’s ignored them this whole time and still become popular. They were likely thinking to themselves “how dare she be better than me”. Too bad, she’s better than them, and she won’t be high and mighty about it. That’s why people like her, even if she doesn’t want the attention.
She hears a familiar name around the top as well, but far more average than herself, “Moire May”. Elise watches as the girl with long flowing black hair heads to the front, taking her paper and returning to her seat while reading her results, smiling. Elise realizes her friend got the score she expected, and smiles for her. Moire isn’t the most intelligent, but she’s capable of quite a lot, even when she forgets her ADHD medicine. In fact, Elise wouldn’t be surprised if Moire surpassed her in the Physical Exam. Soon enough, Mrs. Lerai speaks again, her elvish eyes glancing down at the next paper, “Next up is the Medical Examination. A recap, the Medical Examination was to test your overall knowledge of the bodies of each major Race within the Defensive Military Federation. For example, a Lestis like myself, is far different from a Mahte, like Jason.” She gestures to the dwarf sitting in the front of the class, as she continues, “And especially an Augmented or Engineered Human like Elise. There were questions that were not spoken of in any medical classes you may have taken. When I call your name, please come up and take your exam.”
Elise approached first again, another almost perfect score. She read through a few of the answers she thought she wouldn’t get, and noticed that the person who graded the exam was baffled at her knowledge of the bodies of each major Race, and even some non-major Races, as well as her extensive knowledge on cloning and genetic engineering. She felt she needed to know these things, especially about topics like cloning and genetic engineering. After all, her sister is a slightly engineered clone, like all clones, and she herself is just a fully genetically engineered person. Which is not illegal to do, but becomes illegal when you start playing god a little too much, or accelerate the person’s growth, which can have extreme lasting health problems, even more so than normal cloning.
Moire was a bit lower than average, but she seemed happy with her score, so Elise was happy for her. Mrs. Lerai spoke again as she handed the last paper away, “Next, the History Examination. Just like the rest, this was to test your overall knowledge of the history of the Andromedan Military Defensive and the Federation as a whole. There were even some questions about the greater galaxy, and other nations. When I call your name, please come up and take your exam.” For once, Elise’s name was not first called. Instead it was Andy Randal, the second best of the class. The horned Dracan kept to himself, and rarely spoke to anyone, but he clearly had a sense of pride, and always challenged Elise for the top position of the class. From test to test, he was always right behind her. In this moment, he likely fulfilled his goal for once. Elise was directly after him, and she returned to her desk, not caring about any history, aside from the fact that the Tamwyhn Resistance broke away and began an ongoing, decades long, war against the supposed “tyranny and oppression of the Knight Corps”. This caused the Union of Andromedan Systems to change its name, in accordance with its laws, to the Andromedan Military Defensive. She didn’t feel like getting into the topic at the moment, but she was going to research a few battles when she got home, such as the first and second battles for Plant Zion.
Moire was near the top as well, especially since she’s a military history buff. Mrs. Lerai spoke once more, “Next, the Sciences Examination. This was to test your overall knowledge of different sciences. From biology to magical science. When I call your name, please come up and take your exam.” Elise expected to be rather low, and she was right, as she was called roughly around the middle, which baffled lots of the students, even Moire, who did better overall. Elise took the exam, and noticed a near perfect score for Magical Science, but not for anything else. She sat down and smiled happily, glad to have done well in the subject that interested her. After all, she was a mage, though she never shows it.
Mrs. Lerai spoke again, “You definitely get it now, I’ll just say the name of the exam, and then your names. Physical. Elise Elliot and Andy Randal.” Elise stands, having expected to be the top again. She hadn’t expected to tie with Andy though. Both take their papers, and head back with a near perfect score. Moire was near them, but not anywhere close, as she was behind six other students.
Eventually Mrs. Lerai spoke to them all, “That is all of the exams, when I call your name, please approach and accept the documents I hand towards you.” Mrs. Lerai stands, her tall and slender frame looking as if it could topple over or snap in the lightest of wind. She picks up a set of documents. Quite a lot at that, “Elise Elliot.” Elise stands, and approaches, as Mrs. Lerai continues, “You are the highest in score across the entire senior class, and the only place you failed in was the Sciences. You have been seen by more than just the school. Hold your head in pride, as the Knight Corps has requested you join their ranks. You have two years to decide if you will.” Elise shakes her head, “I already know where I will be, I cannot accept their request.” She holds out her hands, taking the documents. Mrs. Lerai seems baffled by her answer, and she can hear the whole class become startled, having heard someone turn down the offer to become a Knight. The highest honor someone can receive, right behind gaining the Andromeda’s Pin. Mrs. Lerai speaks, “Nonetheless, you should at least consider it.” Elise returns to her seat.
Mrs. Lerai takes another set of documents, as she speaks, “Andy Randal. You are the second highest in score across the entire senior class, having been successful in all topics. You have been seen by more than just the school. Hold your head in pride, as the Knight Corps has also requested you join their ranks. You do not have two years to decide, as you are already of service age.” Andy nods as he takes the documents, “Thank you, teacher. I will speak with the personnel in the school before leaving the premises.” He returns to his seat, but Mrs. Lerai speaks, “Go ahead and start walking to them. There is nothing else for you after you have received your documents.” Andy turns and begins walking to the door. Elise was curious what he would do. Would he accept it because she turned it down? Or would he turn it down as well, seeing it as a challenge by her? Elise spoke, “Mrs. Lerai. Should I go down there as well?” The Lestis looks at her, and then answers, “If you wish to change your mind, or speak to one of the other representatives, yes.” Elise stands, and begins to walk, confusing a few of her classmates, and worrying Moire specifically.
Walking behind Andy, she speaks with a smirk, “Going to accept, Andy?” He turns his head to look, and stops, letting her catch up. He then walks beside her as he says, “Yes. You’re pretty weird, Elise.” Elise smiles softly as she speaks, “I’m not meant to be a Knight. I’m meant to be an MP, like my Dad.” He nods in understanding, as he says, “I see. You’re not joining them because you would rather go the nepotism route?” Elise shakes her head, “No. I’m joining the MPs because they saved my life when I was a kid. Sure, my Dad may be an MP, and even SWAT at that, but he adopted me, even though I could have been a threat. I want to give that chance to other kids that were taken by Rebels.” Andy is silent, as he continues to walk, looking down slightly. She speaks, jabbing him slightly, “Don’t beat yourself up about it. I know what you’re thinking, ‘how could I have ever hated this girl for being better than me?’ Just don’t beat yourself up about it. I never really cared to tell others about that. You’re just different. Always striving to be better. I’d like you to keep tha-” Andy interrupts her, “No, no. It's not that. I never hated you. I just wanted to be better than you. I was jealous you were so good. I was certain you’d be going into the Knights, so when you denied it, I was a bit upset. ‘You’re better than all of us, how could you deny your place in the Defensive? How could you deny your right to lead the charge?’ That’s what I had thought when I heard that. I wanted to be like you, and that crushed my world. So I decided I would be better in that moment, and now I’m hearing you’re still better than me.” Elise starts to frown, as she pats his back slightly, “Hey, don’t get down because of that. Just don’t stop pushing forward, because I won’t. We’ll keep in touch. You have your own route, and you’ll probably save more lives than me in the end. This is where our paths separate, but no longer as just rivals. Now we’re friends too. Yeah?” Andy chuckles, “Yeah. Before you leave the cafeteria, take a seat. I'll trade numbers with you before I leave.” Elise chuckles to herself, “Alright then. I’ll see you soon.” The two enter the cafeteria, and go their separate ways.
In the distance, standing around a few tables are groups of Military personnel. At one, a man stands with a longsword on his hip. His black dress uniform is immaculate, with its silver accents, red shoulder cape on the left shoulder, and black dress hat, with its own silver accents, Warrant Officer insignia, and hanging golden strap with 13 red yarns swaying from the bottom of it. That was the Knight who was awaiting the possible new Knight Recruits. Andy approached him with no hesitation, and simply stood still as the Knight began to speak.
At another table, a few other personnel were conversing, each were Warrant Officers, in their respective uniforms. The Land Force Command Soldier was in an olive drab uniform, with onyx accents, and an olive drab dress hat, with onyx accents, Warrant Officer insignia, and a hanging golden strap with 12 onyx yarns swaying from the bottom of it. The Fleet Command Sailor was in a burgundy uniform, with onyx accents, and a burgundy dress hat, with onyx accents, Warrant Officer insignia, and a hanging golden strap with 12 onyx yarns swaying from the bottom of it. The Air Command Pilot was in a tan uniform, with onyx accents, and a tan dress hat, with onyx accents, Warrant Officer insignia, and a hanging golden strap with 13 onyx yarns swaying from the bottom of it. Finally, the Planetary Force Guard was in a snow white uniform, with onyx accents, and a snow white dress hat, with onyx accents, Warrant Officer insignia, and a hanging golden strap with 14 onyx yarns hanging from the bottom of it.

She would not be approaching any of them, as she set her sights on the two other personnel in the room, at the edge of the cafeteria, two reddish gray uniforms, with gold accents stood out. One had an ivory shoulder cape, while the other had an onyx shoulder cape. Their reddish gray dress hats, with their gold accents, Warrant Officer insignia, and hanging golden strap, had only one difference between them, the 15 swaying yarns matched their shoulder capes. She approached, and the two Warrant Officers ended their conversation. The only differences between the two men, at a glance, was that they were in different branches, and the one with the onyx cape had curled horns on the side of his head. The two look at her, as she performs a perfect salute of honor, bringing her hand up to her forehead, keeping the fingers straight. In response, the two bring their fists to their sternums, and angle their arms directly down, in the salute of protection. The one with the ivory shoulder cape speaks first, his voice commanding and powerful, “What can we do for you, Student.” She spoke, “I’m here to present my documents to the Warrant Officer.” She looks at the one with the onyx cape, who chuckles, “You’re Second Lieutenant Elliot’s kid, aren’t you?” Elise nods in response, as the ivory cape smiles and speaks, “I’ll leave you to it, MP.” The MP looks to the other Warrant Officer, and says in a joking retort, “Just don’t go dropping off the building without a parachute at least, Drop Trooper.” The Trooper laughs at his own expense as he walks off, leaving the two by themselves.
The Warrant Officer looks down to Elise’s face, and says, “You’re a bit young to be joining up. But we can accept your documents. Your Dad’ll be upset though. Probably will want you far away from this job.” Elise stands still and firm, her resolve just as sturdy, as she states calmly and seriously, “I need to pay my debts back. After all, there could be more like me out there, who need someone to save them.” The Warrant Officer sighs, and holds out a hand for the documents, as he says, “That sounds like Elliot alright. You are definitely his daughter.” Elise hands the Dracan the documents, as she smiles, “I know.” He then hands her back one document, “I can’t take this though. That’s your highschool diploma.” Elise looks at it, a bit confused about how she had simply forgotten it was in the pile.

“Are you sure you want to do this?” Aunt Dmitrovna asked, shifting her weight a little on the crutch, “It's not a pretty job, and it's definitely not good for your health. Just look at me, my foot’s in a cast.” Elise nods in response, “I’m certain.” Dmitrovna frowns heavily, as she says, “At least wait until after your birthday. For him?” She smiles sadly, pulling that card. Elise frowns heavily, and holds back her anger at Dmitrovna for saying that. She then takes a second, sighs, and then nods, “No. But I’ll wait until tomorrow, at least. I’ll celebrate today, and then go tomorrow.” Dmitrovna starts to move herself over to a couch to sit down, and Elise steps over to help her down. Once Dmitrovna was in her seat, Elise stood up, and walked off to the kitchen as she spoke with a small hint of annoyance, “I’ll make us something to eat.” Dmitrovna speaks with a dismissive wave, “No, no. We should wait for Isabel to get home. Come sit with me. I’ve got a few questions for you.”
Elise walks back over, “Let me guess, something about ‘why join?’” Dmitrovna shakes her head as she says, “A good question, but not the one I want to ask.” Elise raises an eyebrow as she takes a seat, and lets the other cat-eared human ask her question, “So, who's the boy you’ve been texting?” Elise squints at Dmitrovna as she asks, “How the hell did you learn about that?” Dmitrovna grins and then pokes Elise’s side with a finger, while stating, “A little defensive there.” Elise moves away from the poke, while frowning at Dmitrovna, before saying, “Of course I’m a little defensive, I never wanted anyone else to know.” Dmitrovna relaxes into the couch as she says, “Isabell sold you out.” Elise looks forward, then mumbles her vow of vengeance, causing Dmitrovna to laugh, before asking, “So~ Who is he?” Elise looks back, now just naturally frowning, “He’s an active duty Southern Knight. And no, we’re not dating. Isabel asked that question already.” Dmitrovna waves a hand dismissively, as she responds with a smile, “That’s fine, that’s fine. I just want to know what kind of person he is, and knowing he’s a Knight gives me a great idea.” She looks at Elise smiling happily, “Strong, quick on his feet, rapid in his reactions. The peak of his race. Which is?” Elise crosses her arms and leans back into the couch, while answering the question, “Dracan.”
Dmitrovna looks surprised, then nods as something seems to click for her, “The Dracan. Once a proud draconic people, their blood has mixed with humanity’s and they have, over the course of the almost two centuries, become far more human-like in looks. They’re still cold-blooded, but are far more capable of regulating their body temperature, with the skin that has mostly replaced their scales. I’m assuming he’s one of those ones? Human Dracan, hybrid?” Elise simply nods in response, letting Dmitrovna continue even though Elise knows this already, “Which would mean he is stronger and faster than I expected. Knight Dracans are terrifying people, since they have Knight Training, fear nothing, and usually are equipped, even in civilian situations. Had to deal with one before, though she was off-duty, she ripped through a rebel sect with no issue, and no weapons. It was a brutal scene, and she was apologetic afterwards. I understood her side though. Those rebels were threatening some civilians into silence at the time, with hostages. The Knight took them all out, and saved the hostages, taking them out the back instead of the front, where blood was smeared on the walls with other viscera.” Elise shivers slightly at the thought, but remains silent.
Dmitrovna just kept talking, “Anyway, he’s a Dracan, he’s a Knight, and he likely has that same pride of the Dracan in him. Could get him in trouble, but knowing he’s a Knight, it probably won’t. What are your thoughts about him?” Elise thinks for a second before answering, “He’s a good guy. Competitive ever since school, and patriotic too. He’s the kind of person to jump in the line of fire to protect even one more person.” Dmitrovna nods in response, as she states, “That’s all Knights.” Elise is silent, as she doesn’t really know much about the Knight Corps to say for sure. Dmitrovna continues, “I know that because I’ve met plenty in my life. From Torchwood’s sister, to a few Knight Advisors.” Elise raises an eyebrow, having heard the name Torchwood for the first time, causing her to ask, “Torchwood?” Dmitrovna smiles and nods, “Yeah, Lieutenant Colonel Elizabeth ‘Torchwood’ Mural. She’s still on Radium, but defers to the Captain, despite outranking him. Something about experience outranking all. Her sister’s a Southern Knights Captain.” Elise nods silently, now knowing who Dmitrovna was talking about, after all her father had mentioned the dangerous marksman before.
Dmitrovna starts to go on another monologue about people, places, engagements, and even her time as a Patrol Enforcer, before signing up for SWAT training. Now she’s just a glorified desk jockey that gets the honor of sending Patrol Enforcers off on their patrols. Poor Second Lieutenant Dmitrovna, who sends herself on patrols sometimes. Soon, in the middle of Dmitrovna’s one-sided conversation, the main door can be heard opening, and Elise stands up, heading over to check who it is, only to see Isabel setting her bag down, while holding a cat in her arms, and with a grocery bag hanging from the crook of her arm. Elise speaks almost immediately, “Need some help? Also, cat?” Isabel nods in response, silent but definitely needing the help, as she carefully shifts the cat, then holds out the bag. Elise takes it, and glances inside, before taking it to the kitchen, where it will sit for a while. Stepping out of the kitchen, she can see the cat wandering about on its own, as Isabel pulls things out of her bag. Elise then restates her question, “Cat?” Dmitrovna can be seen trying to pat the cat, who ignores her. Isabel responds to Elise, smiling over to her, “I felt like surprising you a bit with a new house partner.” Elise smiles at her sister, and asks another question, “What’s his name?” Isabel grins and says, “Remember that old story we made together when we were kids?” Elise chuckles slightly, “You named him Kit?” Isabel nods in response, her smile growing in size.

Elise stood silent and still in the station’s small visitors lounge. Silence was all she could hear, aside from the shifting of one of the other civilians nearby, who was either waiting for someone to take them to the back, or was here to report a minor crime. Elise remained still and silent, imitating parade rest, and to a rather practiced ease at that. An Enforcer entered, and spoke, “Miss Elliot, if you would, please follow me.” Elise began to walk towards the Enforcer, who turned and began walking as well. Passing many Enforcers as they walk, she remains facing forward, not once looking at anyone, unless she can glance at them with her eyes.
As she passes a few of them, she can hear them speak; “That’s Elliot’s daughter,” or “Who the hell is that,” or even “That some off-duty officer? She’s not even looking at anyone.” All of these were said, with many more as well. A small congregation of Enforcers followed behind, curious and confused by something. Elise is brought to a large room, in which a group of metal walls, with an opening in it, sat in the middle, while groups of bleachers sat on other areas that were higher up, and could see down into the walls. Elise began to realize where she was, as her father had told her about it often. She was at the training course. She heard the Enforcer speak, “Alright, Miss Elliot. Your father was an Enforcer, and he likely imparted knowledge about the Military Police to you. Do you know where you currently are?” Elise keeps her head still, answering immediately, “Yes, sir. We’re at the training course. However, it is an augmented Knights Course.” The Enforcer smirks, and nods in affirmation, before saying, “Good. Looks like you are familiar. This is a strange way to test a new recruit, but because of your father having been SWAT, and the circumstances that made him adopt you, I was ordered to have you run this before anything else. Have you ever worn ear plugs?” Elise answers without moving once again, “Yes sir.” The Enforcer pulls a small case out, and holds it forward, “Take them, and put them in. I’ll get you a sidearm.” Elise takes the case, and puts the earplugs into her ears, before closing the case.
The Enforcer returns, holding an unloaded sidearm, and three magazines. He holds them out for her to take, as he says, “Put them where you feel most comfortable, but keep the sidearm unloaded until the test begins.” Elise does so, simply putting the magazines upside down in her pockets, aside from one which remains in her offhand, with the sidearm in her right. She keeps her finger off the trigger, and the barrel down, away from others. The Enforcer then speaks with authority, “When the buzzer sounds for the third time, you will begin your test. Enter the course, and take out the Rebel targets. Do not shoot friendlies or civilians. In the case you shoot a friendly or civilian, you will gain a strike, and hear a buzzer. After six seconds, if you have not shot a target, and they are right beside a civilian or friendly, that non-target will be executed with the sound of a gunshot, and you will gain a strike. At the end of the course, your strikes will be tallied, and you will be judged by that. If you have more than five strikes, you will be denied entry into the Military Police. If you have more than one strike, you will be required to go through the normal training process. If you have one or no strikes, you will be tested on your general knowledge of what we do, which will then determine what else you will have to do to enter the Military Police. Understood?”
Elise nods, and answers, “Crystal clear, sir. I’m ready to begin.” The Enforcer nods, then speaks, “Stack up at the entrance.” Elise rushes over to the entrance, and she sees the group that had followed was now getting on the bleachers to see into the test. Elise sets herself up against the wall, sidearm forward and down at the ground, with the magazine at the ready to be pushed in. The first buzzer goes off. The second a few seconds later. Then a long pause takes place. It was either her mind making it longer, or the buzzer really did take more than five seconds to sound. Slamming the magazine in, and pulling the slide back to chamber a round, she entered the course.
