Chapter 36: Burned Down and Taken Away
In the dead of night, some of the troops that came to take Lily away arrived at the farm and set fire to the crops.
Coal awoke to the blazing flames and quickly left the farmhouse to try and stop the burning crops somehow.
Coal coughed as he stumbled out of the farmhouse, his eyes adjusting to the bright orange light that flickered around him.
He saw the troops in the distance, but they seemed to be focused on the destruction of the crops.
Determined to stop the fire, Coal ran towards the fields. He could feel the heat radiating off the flames as he got closer, making his eyes water and his skin prickle.
He ran towards the flames and began to dig a trench around the burning fields to stop the fire from spreading.
Coal worked tirelessly, using all the tools he could find on the farm. He dug furiously, sweat pouring down his face as he worked to contain the fire.
It was a race against time, and he knew that if he failed, the entire farm would be destroyed.
While Coal was distracted trying to stop the spread of the fire to the rest of the crops, some of the guys got into the house and grabbed the sleeping Lily.
It wasn't until he finished digging the trench that he turned around and saw that the troops had taken Lily.
His heart sank as he watched them drive away with her. He felt helpless and angry at the same time. He had failed to protect Lily and now she was gone.
Coal stood there for a moment, staring off into the distance as the fire continued to burn behind him.
He knew he couldn't let the troops get away with what they had done. He had to find a way to get Lily back and make them pay for destroying their crops.
Coal took a deep breath and ran back to the farmhouse. He needed to gather supplies and figure out his next move.
He quickly grabbed his backpack and loaded it with everything he might need, including a map, a compass, some food and water, and a few makeshift bandages.
As he was packing, Coal realized that he didn't know where the troops had taken Lily. He needed information and fast.
He decided to head to the nearby village to see if anyone there had seen anything. It was risky, as the village was known to be sympathetic to the troops, but Coal didn't have any other options.
He slipped out of the farm and started running towards the village, his heart pounding in his chest.
It didn't take long for him to arrive at the village, and he immediately began asking around for information.
Most of the villagers were tight-lipped, but Coal eventually found an old man who had seen the troops drive by.
Stolen novel; please report.
The man told him that they had headed towards the nearby city, which was several hours away by carriage . Coal knew he had to act fast.
He ran back to the farm and quickly saddled up his horse. He rode towards the city as fast as he could, his heart pounding with every beat.
He decided to start by gathering information. He went to a local pub and pretended to be a traveler passing through.
He struck up a conversation with the bartender and managed to get some valuable information.
He found out that the troops had taken Lily to a prison on the outskirts of the city.
Coal knew he had to act fast. He thanked the bartender and left the pub, making his way towards the prison.
It turns out that Lily was an important person of nobility of an enemy nation who came on an ambassador mission to negotiate things with their nation where they were ambushed and captured.
Coal's heart sank as he learned the truth about Lily's identity. He had thought she was just a farmhand, but now he realized that she was caught up in something much bigger.
Coal knew that rescuing a noble from a prison would be a daunting task, but he was determined to try.
He spent the next few days gathering information and planning his next move.
He learned that the prison was heavily guarded, with soldiers posted at every entrance and exit.
He knew that he couldn't take them all on by himself.
Coal decided to seek out some allies. He had heard rumors of a group of enemy nation soldiers who were fighting against the same nation that had captured Lily.
He managed to track down one of their members and explain his situation.
The soldier was sympathetic to Coal's cause and agreed to help him rescue Lily.
Together, they spent the next few days planning and preparing for the operation.
They gathered weapons, made maps of the prison, and trained for combat.
Finally, the day of the operation arrived. Coal and the soldier snuck into the prison under cover of darkness, taking out guards silently as they went.
They finally reached the cell where Lily was being held, and Coal felt a wave of relief wash over him as he saw her alive and well.
They quickly freed her and made their way back out of the prison, taking out any guards who tried to stop them.
Lily still had no memory before being Coal’s farmhand and did not want to leave alone with strangers, so Coal went along with her.
Coal and Lily fled the city and made their way back to the farm, constantly on the lookout for any troops who might be pursuing them.
As they traveled, Coal filled Lily in on everything that had happened, including her true identity as a noble from an enemy nation.
Lily was shocked but grateful to Coal for rescuing her. She couldn't believe that someone had risked their life to save hers.
As they approached the farm, they saw that the crops had been destroyed beyond repair. It was a devastating sight, but Coal was just glad that they were both safe.
The farm destroyed and the nation likely to inspect it for them, they decided to go to the nation Lily was originally from.
Coal and Lily traveled for several days until they reached the border of Lily's home nation and during that travel Lily was able to regain most of her memories from before finding herself at the farm.
They were stopped by border guards who were suspicious of Coal's presence, but Lily explained their situation and vouched for him.
Once they were allowed to enter the nation, Lily and Coal made their way to the capital city.
Along the way, they encountered some of Lily's former colleagues who were surprised to see her alive and well.
Lily explained what had happened to her and how Coal had rescued her from the prison.
Her colleagues were grateful to Coal and offered their assistance in any way they could.
Together, they made their way to the palace where Lily's family resided. They were met with skepticism at first, as Lily's family had believed her to be dead.
However, Lily was able to prove her identity and explain what had happened to her.
Coal was initially worried about his safety in the enemy nation, but he was welcomed as a hero for rescuing Lily.
The nation was grateful for his bravery and offered him a place to stay and assistance in rebuilding his farm.
Over time, Coal and Lily became close and fell in love. They decided to stay in Lily's home nation and start a new life together.
They created a new farm in Lily’s home nation that was pretty similar to the one they originally met on.
On this new farm they lived a great life and had a few kids.
Over seven decades they lived a good life together on the farm before they passed away in each other’s arms.
